Afraid of sprinklers, hoses or water?

Pumpkin is afraid of sprinklers and hoses - and doesn't really like a bath or shower.

We rescued her about 6 weeks ago and am wondering if this is common or if the previous family mistreated her some how?

Anyone else experience this?

Lexx hates water. A lot of dobermans hate water... and I can assure you, he has not been abused a day in his life.:)

My boy hates them but he hates water. He has never had a bad experince with them.. he just knows what comes out of them so he avoids them like the plauge! LoL

Haven't you heard??? THEY MELT IN WATER!!! At least Ali thinks she does. Would rather hold it for hours than step outside in the slightest drizzle.

We were at the beach the other day and the tide was going out. I tossed T's favorite little ball right to the edge of the water so he'd only need to get his toes wet to get it. He stood there and watched his ball wash out. Water was way too cold for me to go out to get it when he decided nope, he really wasn't going to get his favorite little ball.

He doesn't like to go out in the rain unless there is promise of play time and then he doesn't care.
Hoses - he gingerly steps over it if it is on the ground. move it and he takes off. Have it in your hand and he gives you a wide berth.

He's our big ol doberWuss

If it's coming down from the sky (that includes sprinklers, hoses, and showers) or moving in waves, Tess believes it's evil and must be avoided at all costs. Rain *might* be ok, if I'm out there, sharing in her misery.

If it's standing still, flowing very slowly, or going into a bowl to drink from, it's all good.

My boy doesn't like water from hoses but will sit out in the rain chewing a bone no problem. If I leave my shower door open he's right in there with me too. I haven't taken him to a lake yet but i'm sure he'd go right in.

Bella loves the ocean, hates the hose. Wants to kill the hose. Wants to kill the sprinkler. Knows I'm going to die in the shower.....she's eccentric, like Garbo.

Didn't you know dragons hide in water!! Both of mine HATE water of any kind. Oh yea, Hank discovered that dragons also hides in sewer grates. He just started being afraid of the sewer grates. No bad experiences he just decided to afraid of them. If we are walking and he spots one he will go to the ground, staring at it and will not move...

My previous three dobes hated rain too. My current one, Indy hates rain but loves to dunk his head in the water bucket when we're outside.

Funny as I said that my dog loves water in my earlier post...

While I was taking a shower this evening, Louie jumped in the shower with me. What the heck...my doberman loves water more than I thought he did :nana:

Our Bella really likes the garden hose. She will drink out of it, and seems intrigued by the water but stops short of playing with it. But she will drag the hose around when it's not on. She has gotten her feet in her wading pool and in the lake and river, but won't get all the way in. We really would love for her to be a water dog, but we're not pushing her.

For Anubis if its raining i have to carry him out to go to the bathroom we have to have a coat on and bags on his feet. Bathing him HA yeah i have a cast iron claw foot. Lets just say i usually have to take a shower with him. Now when i picked this breed every book i read said they liked to swim, and well i like to swim. At first he wouldn't go in not after toys or food. So i was like im getting in, and i forced him to swim and now we cant get enough of it but i have to be swimming with him or playing fetch.

I got Drago at 9 weeks and he has hated water from day one. If we go someplace where he can be off lead by a lake or stream he tries to attack the water, but won't go in past elbow deep. He jumps around in the shallows barking, growling and biting the water.

If it's raining anything more than a sprinkle I have to put his leash on him and make him go outside to pee in the morning. He'd rather stay in the house and try to hold it all day. (We usually get our walks and exercise in the evenings)

During shower time I have to be extremely firm with my commands to get him to enter the bathroom and he's stiff as a board with his tail down the entire time.

He does like getting towled down afterwards, though.

Baron is the first of all my Dobes that likes to play with water. All the others tolerated being bathed but would not get near the hose or water stuff. Baron enjoys having a bath and loves playing with the hose. Would love to let him in our pool but it is a liner pool and even though his nails are always kept short, I would not take a chance. The only water thing he hates is rain on his back.

Can I eat this?
