Advice Needed

When I put Rex outside he will run to all the windows and glass doors to jump up on them and look in to find someone. How do I get him to stay down? He can pretty much see someone through each one so hiding isn't really an option. He'll even do it if I close the blinds.

Any suggestions?

why dont you just go outside with him for the time. He is probably just lonely and wants you to play with him. If Duchess had a choice to run around in the yard or be by my side. She would pick being by my side.

plus going outside with him to play ball or something will ensure more exercise than just letting him out by himself...where I know Duchess would just lay in the sun and smell the air...
Dobie`s do not like to be without their families. They have to much velcro on their bodies. All kidding aside mine are not outside unless I am. They just prefer it that way and I don`t mind.
Isabelle has never been outside by herself for longer then two minutes. She won't go potty unless one of us is out there. I'd hang out with him - hopefully the weather is nice by you.
Summer and Cleo could be outside by themselves as long as they were together, never alone. Now Summer will stay outside very rarely without me. She'll ask to go out and when I let her out she'll walk out and then turn right around to make sure I'm behind her. If I don't go out she stays at the door and stands there waiting.

Jordan does the same thing. They both go out in the morning to go to the bathroom first thing and they have no problems with that. After that it is a refusal to be out there by themselves.
GKar asks to go out two times every day. No matter how many times we have been out playing he still wants out. One is to check every corner of the yard and chase his tail the other is to do his business. Rain or shine makes no difference to him.
I go outside with mine when they go outside. If by chance I walk inside to grab something quicky, like a toy for training outside, they are at the door immediately waiting for me.

I don't do this only to keep them company. I do this for their safety. There are many things that could happen to your dog outside that we don't think about. Anything could potentially happen that was harmful. I tend to like to keep a watchful eye on them. It keeps them happier and me.

Our two will go out by themselves for not for very long. They enjoy playing with each other but prefer to have an audience. So if one of us (usually my husband) is not outside then they will be at the door every two seconds.
Red will happily stay outside in our 1 1/4 acre fenced in back yard and keeps himself entertained by first doing a complete circuit of the yard, then sniffing out chipmunk holes, chewing left behind rawhides, or just simply sitting there sniffing the air.

But when it's raining or nighttime, he doesn't stay outside by himself at all, he follows he straight back in after doing his business.

spiatt, I agree with the others that you should spend more time with him outside, and then gradually leave for a few seconds, then a few minutes, and work your way up.
