Adult Chin Acne Help

Our 4-year-old male Dobie Max has puppy chin acne - it flares up and then goes away but I can't seem to find the cause or how to help it go away permanently.

I have gone through foods to see what could cause it more - Turkey and goat milk seems to be a link but can't say for sure.

Any topical recommendations, please? We have done one round of antibiotics last year but I do not want to have him on antibiotics again.

He eats from a stainless steal bowl or is hand fed during training, I wipe his face multiple times a day, and I wash his toys and blankets every week.

Any topical recommendations, please?

Yes, hit your local phamacy for meds for acne control--usually cleaning products and then something to put on the active lesions. These seem to work well until the dogs own immune system can take care of it. Make sure you clean his ss bowl after each use with hot soapy water--rinse well and let air dry. Wipe his chin clean after every meal and try the acne medication.

Some of my Rotties have had this, and wiping their chin after every meal has always cleared it up. I have a vague memory that with one who was particularly bad I dipped a washcloth in hot water, wrung it out, and held it on the area for a few minutes every time I did the chin wipe.

Does he chew/suckle on soft chew toys. My boy had this due to his sucking on his stuffies. Got rid of those toys no more acne

Those look like some pissed off hair follicles on that chin chin chin….
Ingrown hairs might be developing….
My dog gets those bloody bumps if he is hollowing out a big marrow bone.
If you must clean……use cotton balls saturated with warm water …nothing with alcohol or that would sting.
Keep the irritated areas dry as much as possible….
If you must clean just Dab….dab…dab…
Get to vet if no improvement noted after a few days.

Get some Apple Cider Vinegar mix 50/50 with water. Wipe the chin with it 3-4 times a day. It will clear it up.

My Dobe had recurring chin and cheek problems when we lived in FL. We moved to MD (and to NC a few years later) and the problem never recurred.

Thank you so much for the reply! When you say acne meds - like human meds? any ingredients to avoid / be mindful of?

Yes, we wash his bowls after every single meal, usually dishwasher every day.

Thank you!

He does! I have thought of limiting the soft blankets and toys but he loves them! I wash them every week to keep clean, maybe we will try a few days without them...

We wash them after every single meal, and every time he drinks water (hot soapy water) if they are not hand washed then they are usually ran through the dishwasher every day.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will look into a Canadian version of the pads! We did use the Douxo ps3 pads but they are hard to come by

These are all great tips! My teenage pup has been battling some chin acne as well and since trying this stuff, it has helped a lot.

I spray one of those makeup remover pads and give the chin a wipe.

I forgot that my Dobe also had elbow problems when I lived in Florida. I may be wrong but since it all cleared up during our first winter out of FL I assumed t was fungal related.

My dobe had chin acne up until he was about 1.5 years old. I kept it under control by cleaning his bowl after each use and Wiping his face after each meal. He grew out of it, but my advice is to stay on top of it by cleaning his face/chin and making sure his water bowl and food bowl are cleaned religiously.
