Hey everyone! My name is Kayla, and I'm a proud Mama to a LCGSD and a Rott.

I'm currently looking for info regarding the Doberman. I'm looking to get another pup at the end of this year, early part of next year. I would like teh pros and cons, and any info that anyone can provide!

I do have a couple of questions though...

1)Can I work a Doberman in Schutzhund?
2)Do Doberman's go well in multi dog families?
3) How would I go about looking for teh right breeder? a

ny advice and imput is greatly accepoted!!!

Hi! Welcome to Doberman Talk! I have had Doberman Pinschers with other dogs and they were great together. The dogs should be socialized while they are young and it should work out fine. The forum has a dog breeders section and I put some breeders on there. You might want to check it out. I wish you the best of luck finding your new dog! Thanks for becoming a Doberman Talk member! Good Bye!

Hi LCGSDmama it is nice to have you here at Dobermantalk I am glad you joined. I like your Avatar by the way. :)

As for your questions:

#1 - Yes definitley

#2 - As any dog it depends on many things including the temperment of both the dogs involved and even more important is how YOU introduce the dogs for the first time. Please read the following article by Ed Frawley that explains in great detail about introducing a new dog READ HERE

#3 - There is a nice FAQ about how to buy a Doberman puppy HERE

Now you have some more reading to do. :) When you get you puppy please post some pictures in our members gallery. :D

Thank you so much!

Ed Frawley pisses me off... I love his advice... its usually right on.. But I dont like how he looks at LongCoat GSDs.

My Avatar is Malachi, my lcgsd.

I sent an email to Thunderstorm Kennels.. and no one has responded back to me yet.. then again, I'm not a patient person when it comes to some things!

When I get a dobie pup, I will post pictures!!! I was looking at your pictures, and your pup is sooo Beautiful! I was looking at the others too, and WOW!!!
HI there! I have a female Dobe along with a boxer mix and an aussie (and 3 cats) and everyone gets along fabulously! Of course, alot is to be said for socialization and training. I don't have much knowledge in Schutzhund, however it is my understanding that right now dobes are the underdog for such competition, as far as popularity is concerned. But these dogs are absolutely capable of competing successfully!!!!! Best of luck!!! As far as breeders are concerned, I know that infodog.com has some information as well as Doberman Pincher Club of America for breeders. My girl came from House of Hoytt and I couldn't be happier with her!!
Hi Lexus I have heard that House of Hoytt Dobermans are among the best you can buy. They are suppose to live a very long life and I heard they actually put a gurantee on the dog for a certain number of years. Is that true?

If you dont mind me asking how much was a Pup from House of Hoytt ?

Thanks
DA
Great information Lexus - thank you very much.

I would consider a Pup from Hoytt but I have made a decision that I will no longer buy Doberman puppies instead I am only going to resce Dobermans. That is how I got my current girl I rescued her from a chan and a pole on the side of some persons house, cruel bastards. I know puppies will always sell but not may people want a adult Doberman. :(

Thanks again for the info and I suppose if I ever wanted a true "SHOW" dog I know where to go.

KUDOS to you!!! I love to hear from people that feel that way!!! My girl was a girft from my dad, I didn't know that I was getting her until after the mom was bred, of course I love her dearly now! 2 of my three cats were rescues, and one of my other dogs was (the other is a boxer mix that my hubby got from a neighbor or something when his kids were little about 7 years ago, not really a rescue situation, but at least the girl came to a good home). We are moving to a bigger house in a year or so and I plan to do some dobe fostering then. Ultimetely I would like to house a small rescue and adoption program, but finances permitting, I will have to settle with helping those poor animals by fostering a couple as soon as I am in a larger location.

Don't you wish just for one day, we could put those jerks in the same situation as the animals they abuse and neglect. I get so angry.

Once again thank God for people like you...

Hey now.. I kinda feel like I need to explain why I'm looking for a breeder and not rescuing.

1st) I already have two pups(they can be 10yrs old, and I will still call them pups) 1 male 1 female. I tried to rescue a male longcoat GSD, and they said no.. since I realdy had two pups and what have you. I really tried! I even had members from other Rescues backing me up, they still said NO... But yet, I could foster...??? I didnt understand that one!

2nd) I think, since I want a male, I should have a puppy, and let him grow up in the household, that way there wont be any problmes with my male(look at my avatar). Granted, my Malachi does like all dogs. I just dont want any probs.

3rd) I'm not saying that I cant rescue a "working" doberman, but I want a working lines Doberman, so that I can work him in Schutzhund, french ring sport, or PSA.

So please dont hate me for going with a breeder....

Hell No I dont hate you. Infact as I said in my post if I were going for a "Show" or Titled dog I would buy a Hoytt Puppy, no doubt.

I wish you the best of luck, cant wait to see the pictures. :D

DA
Ok GOOD!!!

I think I missed that part and titling or showing!
Hey Lexus, do you have a website address for Hoytt??

Ohhhh, I'm so sorry if it made you feel funny... I didn't mean that at all!!!!! Please don't feel offended or anything! We didn't mean it like that at all.

Since I have had lexy since she was a pup, and I want to get into showing, she will be my "show" dog, like what you are looking for. You can't rescue dobie after dobie looking specifically for the right temperment and abilities for what you want to do, I fully understand why you need a pup from the right lines, and for the compatablity reasons , I would do the exact same thing in your position. So please, I totally understand and agree you know what you need and are going about it the right way looking for a reputable breeder.

With fostering, you take in a dog from a rescue or humane society that has been deemed adoptable to get it in a better environment ( a home environment) as opposed to the kennel cage. It makes the animal happier, makes room for the kennel to take in more animals,it a win win situation for all. Plus the dog can get some one on one attention for training too, making it more adoptable.

By the way what is French ring sport?

Take care! :)

OMG Lexus! I love that site.. and I think I might get my dobe from him too! I need to ask some questions, and what have you, but DAMN, he has some NICE looking dobes! I saw the pictures of Lexus, and I think they sold my fiance on this breeder... even though its my choice, he still likes to THINK he had some say... men, eh?
Hey Lex, I'm sending Mr. Hoytt a email, I'm gonna tell him you sent me, OK?
okay! Let him know that I'm ******** daugher, (he's the one that bought dama from him) with Lexus in Chardon. Good Luck!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear!
