Hi guys,

My Dobie Duke started limping all of a sudden yesterday evening. It lasted for like 15mins then it looked as if it was gone. This morning he was back limping with his front left leg. He stills puts weight on it but he keeps it almost straight. His activity and everything is normal, always wants to play, still eats like a pig, etc... nothing special on that end.

Anyway, I headed to the vet to get him checked ASAP and I just came back. The Vet didn't find anything, she even checked for the Woblers syndrome and other disease like that physically and didnt find anything. Dobie who have Woblers have a hard time getting their neck up and she did a test with his paw too for Wobler. Anyway, she said my doberman is probly too "pain resistant" to show any signs of pain when she press the hurting area (duh!). Dobie hides their pain so much, i already knew that. She really examined all his legs, every muscle, bones ,etc and Duke never reacted. I'm not surprised, Duke is a very good boy and he we can do anything with his paw\body and never care.

So far the plan is too wait another week, maybe it's just a torn muscle or something temporary like that. If it doesnt go away in a week or so, I have to see a specialist to pinpoint whats wrong and we'll take decisions from there.

Has it ever occured to anyone before ? I'm getting REALLY anxious but I think i'm a bit too worried for nothing, i always think the worst case scenario.

Not looking for a vet advice since I already had one but wanted to share the story, makes me feel better to talk about it since it touches me so much, Duke is my life buddy.

Was he checked for Lyme's? Lameness can occur if a dog tests positive for Lyme's disease. I'd have a 4d Snapp test done. They're not expensive.

She didnt brought it up.
He had blood tests not even one year ago and everything was fine.

I read symptoms of lyme's disease and apart from lameness, he dont have any of those (lost of appetitie, swelling,etc...)

But thanks, I'll bring it up next time I speak to the vet.

I'm not sure about your area but in the states we had a very mild winter. The ticks are supposed to be ferocious because of this.

Another thing to perhaps check out is pano. I believe xrays help determine if a dog has pano.

Duke is neutered, he was neutered at around 2 years old. We didn't hard play that's for sure, Duke was outside with a cord while I was cooking indoor but I had a clear
view of him and I think he was just sitting in the stairs waiting for me to open the door. One of my guess is that he would've tripped hard while going down the stairs with his cord when I opened the door to let them in.
But that's just a wild guess. The vet tested all muscles and stuff and he never showed signs of pain, no fever, no sign of loss appetite, no change in his temper, nothing is abnormal excep the partial limping.

He goes down the stairs and up without any big problem neither, it's just weird.

I'll talk to the vet about this is a week if it doesnt go any better.

I believe he is too old to have pano, but I sure would xray that leg if he keeps having trouble. Hope its nothing to bother about. Best wishes for Duke.

I would recommend having him checked by a chiro vet. Vets have often misdiagnosed wobblers when a simple adjustment early on could have stopped damage to pinched nerves.

You can search for them in your area by searching here: Doctors, worldwide, certified in animal chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association it is certainly worth a second opinon from someone trained in dealing with spinal injuries.

Just wanted to update you folks,

Very very good news,
Duke is not limping anymore as of this morning, such a relief.
He went up the stairs without any problems, he jumped in my bed, didnt know it was raining outside so he did wet all the bed :idea::sweat:, he's such a good actor....

Looks like it went away like it came... probly a pinched nerve or something like it, i'll keep monitoring him but if he's still not limping tonight I think i'll have to scream victory.

This is great advice!! In November my older Vizsla limped a bit on one leg; it went away with 24 hours crate rest and I went about my business. Then 30 days later she started limping again. Thankfully for me, I'm an FB picture video junkie so I could go back and figure out which leg it was and when it was and THEN I made notes for the future
