My 3 year old Hugo has a tumor on his leg. Discovered the 1cm diameter lump the other day and the vet today said it is a tumor. Getting it removed on tuesday. Has anyone else experienced this before? Was in cancerous? Did more occur later in life after first one was removed? Any idea what causes this? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Does the vet have any idea what kind? I've had several lumps removed from my Vizslas over the years. The majority were benign. But depending on what the vet thinks it might be would depend on your answers.

About a 1-1/2 ago my boy had a suspicious growth removed, it was rather large on his front leg, turned out to be a Follicular Cyst.

Hope everything turns out for the best.

Has there been a needle biopsy done to try to identify what this thing is? I have never bothered to have a lipoma removed, with the exception of a two and a half pound one on a male's abdomen that caused him to pee straight up into the air when he hiked his leg.

I have had a variety of mystery things removed from various dogs, not one of which turned out to be anything to worry about (although a couple of them were pretty rare and interesting). I have had mast cell tumors removed from one dog, but I knew what they were going into surgery.

Picture

I have attached a picture of the tumor. It is roughly 1.5 cm wide and sticks out about the same. The vet was positive it was a tumor as soon as she saw it, but could not say or guess which kind. It is a very hard mass. No needle biopsy was performed as her recommendation was to remove it asap in case it got larger over time. If that happened it could become difficult to stitch up after removal with the limited amount of skin on his leg. I also googled this for countless hours and all of the recommendations I found were to remove leg masses asap.

He has had this tumor roughly a week now. Last night he started to chew on it and it started to bleed. Tuesday can not come fast enough. Once it is removed we are having it sent away for testing. No idea how long that will take.

Oh, I'm sorry for your puppy. most of the time the tumour are healed but you have to
observe some other symptoms.
I mean, look that if you pup is eating and drinking properly? If not, this is not good.
Don't waste time and start proper treatment.
Um, they said they already have an appt for surgery, the soonest available.

Good luck with your pup, OP.

There are all sorts of conditions like this that turn out to be benign, so try not to cross that worry bridge before necessary. I know, easier said than done, but try.
