Im not sure if she is coming into heat or not, but Rommel is VERY VERY interested. I have not seen ANY bleeding at all. Would it be normal for a bitch to come into heat at 6 months old? Also, I have heard that a UTI could cause some males to be "more interested" is that true?

Hi BIB,

Puppy bitches can definitely come in heat at 6 months.

UTI's and vaginitis can make a bitch smell "different" and cause a male to be very interested even if she's not coming in season.

Usually you would see swelling of the vulva before you saw blood.

HOWEVER, puppy bitches sometimes have what is referred to as a "silent season"--no swelling and no bleeding but males will be very interested never the less. Sometime the only way you know that a puppy bitch came in season the first time (if they have a so called "silent season") is because they will subsequently go through an obvious false pregnancy.

Isn't Rommel intact? Just to be on the safe side I'd separate them.

I have had them separated since last night when I noticed he was really interested in her. (Just to be on the safe side) I put her in her crate last night, since Rommel sleeps with me and she peed in there TWICE. She hasn't done that in a very long time. There is no noticeable swelling.

I'm going to take her to the vet in the morning, just to rule out vaginitis and a UTI.
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

Jada just got done with her antibotics for a mild case of vaginitis. And yes Titus was very interested. I had taken her to the vet because she had two accidents, one in the house and one in the jeep and that was not like her. She has been housebroken for quite some time and I was worried that she had a UTI. The vet advised me that both present with the same symptoms and are treated with the same meds. Let us know how your vet visit turns out. Wish you the best.

It was puppy vaginitis. She is on meds 3x a day. Gosh, I just got the huge lecture about how bad RAW feeding is. That was fun.

That's weird. What the heck does that have to do with vaginitis?

Some people just never give up huh? Even veterinarians. Hope her treatment goes well and Rommel stops bugging her.

Well, they always ask if anything in their diet has changed. So I told her about how the Canine Caviar was recalled, and that I decided to go ahead and make the 100% switch. So...thats how it came up. I mean...I do understand that there are risks involved, but I think that the pet food industry has proved that there is risks involved with feeding commercial as well. At least this way I know exactly what they are eating. I'm at least going to try it, if it doesnt work out well for us we will switch back.
Sorry BiB, coming into this late. ******* went into heat a 7 months, she really swelled though. Thought I'd tell you that just so your ready!! hehe. Hope she get's better soon. :)

What did he say? I was afraid to tell mine about it...didn't feel like hearing it.

Just watched Oprah the other day and she had a vet on there that said the best thing to feed dogs are RAW but if you are not willing or able then cooked food was the next best thing. We do not currently feed our kids a raw diet but they do get a lamb shank each weekend. They both love it and who knows we might one day switch to a raw diet.
Oops. Sorry forgot to say this. Your girl should be fine once she is done with the antibotics. Jada finished her meds last week and is doing much better. Hope your girl gets better real soon.

You should of told him/her not to worry you only feed your dogs raw animal meat. Due to the fact that people with no knowledge on raw feeding yet want to spew there personal views on our dime, get stuck in there craws. :nana:
She"ll be right as reign shortly, she is lucky to have a responsible mum that loves her.
hope it clears up soon:) speaking of when is our rommel getting neutered? and good luck with the raw :)

If you are worried about his working drive maybe you could consider a vasectomy instead. Neutering isn't the only "fix" ...no pun intended.

hmmm thats interesting I never knew they had that option too...Do people decide that over neutering often? sorry for the thread hijack:)

lol but BIB...you might want to start making her undies and diaper contraptions now :) hehe
I've only heard of a few people that opt for vasectomies over a neuter, and quite honestly for good reason - it HAs been heard of that the vasectomy fails.

Kim, do you check for sperm production after the vasectomy, just like with humans?
He will be neutered hopefully by the end of summer. I think I mentioned it before but after changing vets AGAIN, we found out that Rommel DOES have a thyroid issue and did in fact need supplementation. We are having some issues getting his levels right, he is VERY lethargic right now and just being all around weird. I would like to wait until all of this is straightened out, and the neuter will be next. I just don't feel like it would be in his best interest to mess with it right now, its not about drives or anything.
