Are dogs allowed on beaches in FL?

We are looking into buying a beachfront vacation home in FL but I have found that most cities do not allow dogs on the beaches. Is this year round or just in the summer? Are there any cities, islands, keys, etc that are more dog friendly? I am less interested in 'dog park beaches,' I just want to be able to take my girl with me when I go for a walk on the beach. We haven't narrowed it down to an area yet. Possibly Naples, North Palm Beach, Sanibel Island, or one of the Keys. Does anyone know of a good area?
Thanks in advance!

Many beaches don't allow dogs because it's a health concern to have people walking through a toilet minefield. It's hard enough to get people to clean up after their pets but if they have the idea the tide will wash everything away...

Some beaches allow dogs without necessarily being dog beaches. They generally require the dog to be on leash. It keeps the dogs under control and owners can't claim they didn't know their dog was toileting.

If you really want off leash check out some of the dog beaches. FL has some really nice ones with great amenities for dogs...like showers. They're also a great place for you to meet people.

Some of the Panhandle Beaches are super dog friendly. St George Island, Cape San Blas. Are you wanting Southern Florida, ocean side vs gulf side?

Thanks for your replies everyone!

We are looking in the southernmost part of the state, could be either gulf side or ocean side. The ability to walk the beach with our pup will be one of the deciding factors, for sure. We'd like to be able to walk out the back door and go sit in the sand, and not have to go to a doggie-beach all the time.

If you own a house on the beach, do you own the beach part, or just up to it? For example, in some areas here in TN, if you own a lakefront home, you own the land right up into the water and can do almost whatever you want with it. In other areas, the state owns a strip of land around the entire lake so even if you have a 'lakefront' home, there are restrictions as to what you are allowed to do. I'm wondering, if you own a beachfront home in FL, can I sit on 'my' beach with my dog, or is that not allowed because maybe the state or the city owns all the beachfront land?
