Can you critique my Dobe?

Hi, this is Niko, my 10 month old dobe. A bit of a background, I got him as a companion dog after my GSD passed away 5 yrs ago, but ended up with a show prospect that the breeder wants finished as part of our agreement. I used to show American Cocker Spaniels some 10 yrs back and have since stopped. (Until now I guess hehe). So I knew I wanted to get a dog from a reputable breeder and also one that looked good of course. With COVID-19, we aren't able to show so we are spending most of our time training. I am not a professional handler so the stacking might be off. Personally I wanted him to have a bit more neck, and the shoulders are set a bit high from my perspective. But this is my first foray into dobes and I want the experts' opinions. Positive or Negative comments are definitely welcome.
Thank you!

Welcome to DT! Are you in the Philipines or are you wondering about showing in the US or Canada? I would not consider myself an expert but I like discussing conformation and I do think I'm starting to develop a good eye. If you haven't spoken with his breeder I think you should definitely do that soon!

I think you do a good job setting him up! The second photo he is set up better than the first- you have his neck cranked up a bit much and his nose could be down too more which gives him a ewe neck look.

Overall he is square and has nice bone. His topline is strong although slightly more sloping than ideal. I like his tight feet and strong pasterns and short hocks.

What you are seeing in his front that I think you don't like so much is his neck set, not his shoulders. His shoulders are well laid back and appear well laid in on the sides- hard to tell because of the shadows. His neck is set forward on his body and should be set further back into his shoulders which would help give an appearance of a longer neck and smoother neck into shoulders. He is also slightly straight and short in his upper arm but that is very common in our breed, and something breeders struggle to breed away from. This makes him slightly out of balance when you compare it to his rear, which is well angulated with good turn of stifle. I would like to see more tuck up in his loin (I think he could be overweight which doesn't help) and I want to see a little more depth of brisket where it comes all the way to his elbows but I bet you he will get that with more maturity. His head is not the best as he has too much stop and his planes are off and his topskull is a little domey looking. He also looks like he could use more underjaw. How is his bite and occlusion?

For what it's worth, from what I see, I don't think these issues would keep him from finishing his championship in the US, but I can't see his movement or bite and that is a big part of the picture too.

I was going to say he has a slopey back and is a little pudge, but I guess GK did a better job on his critique.

He looks nice.

I pretty much agree with Greenkouki's assessment. Judging from what I can see, he might do fine in the show ring. What we can't see in a picture are teeth and movement, and we know those are both important.

Thank you!

Thank you for the welcome Greenkouki and everyone for your insights! They are greatly appreciated. Yes I am from the Philippines and we will show him locally. I am actually in constant communication with his breeder and sending him current pics every month of his development. But for some reason I wanted an "impartial" assessment. He would always tell me he looks good but that's about it haha. I guess i have to engage him more.

For now i will take all the bad with the good and let's see how it goes as he matures. But i know of course there are some that will never change hehe. I would like to focus those that I can- one of which is the weight. I'll reduce his food intake and let you know the progress. Maybe it will have some effect on the neck set or topline.

I totally wasn't paying attention to the head. Coming from cockers which is a head breed, I don't know why I did not evaluate it further. I am thankful that you pointed it out.

His bite is scissors, and occlusion is ok. I will also send a pic once i take one.

Right now, all i have is this out and back movement. I reduced the quality because it was taking time to upload. I will also post a video of a triangle or round.

I understand this is totally a learning process and even though how often i read and re-read the standard, interpreting it through an actual living dog will make it a lot easier to understand and absorb. Just my learning methodology.

Again, thanking everyone for their future comments!
