Proper Outfit in the Show ring?

What would be some appropriate outfit colors for a girl in the show ring? I am new to Dobermans, haven’t got my puppy yet, and have never shown one. I am used to conformation with my Smooth Collies, and for the sables I wear tones of light pink or purple so that the dog stands out and I don’t draw attention away from her.
The black and rust Doberman, which I’m getting, is very similar to color to the tricolored Collies, whom I normally wear a fully red skirt/blazer or black dress with the red blazer. This looks good with tricolored Collies, but it almost looks like it would be to bright and eye-catching in the ring with a Doberman.

So if someone could tell me some good colors that would look good with a black and rust Doberman, that would be great!

I don't show, but all I've heard is basically that you want the attention on the dog more than your clothes, and that you shouldn't wear something that blends in with him--no black with a black dog (unless your dog has a bad topline which you want to hide )

Just for fun I did a little search here...can you believe we have a whole thread about what to wear in the ring!

Janine Anderson is a local photographer who takes a lot of show photos - maybe you could get ideas by browsing some of her photos of Dobes in the ring? The Cambridge, MN 2019 show had a big Doberman specialty entry. https://reddobes.com/all-photographs

As someone who views many a dog show, I always find it looks best when handlers wear contrasting pants/skirts to the dog they are showing. Overall, I think the outfit should look classy but not too flashy, as you/the handler are not the one on display If you go with a skirt, it is always nice to have it knee length or longer... there is a lot of bending over going on, and I have seen too much of too many people in past couple of years

Here is the 2020 Westminster Breed show - Maybe this will help some as these are some of the best of the best handlers - Its like 40 minutes long - but you can watch a few minutes to get a idea

AND welcome to DT and best of luck with your new Doberman

Go light behind a black dog. Doesn't have to be bright colors - I usually opted for neutral light browns and khaki.
