Is my dog eligible for show rink

Hi, I’m planning to buy a male dobe puppy. His dam won several national championship and his sire was imported. My breeder told me he is of show quality. Would like to ask from more knowledgeable dobe show owner if he is actually show quality?

Welcome to DT from Colorado!

Are you here in the US? Where is the imported sire from? Who is the breeder? If he has a website, we could take a look at the dogs he has listed on it and maybe some of his pedigrees, and get some idea about the likelihood that the pup might meet the show quality standards for AKC shows here in the US.

What titles do his parents have? How have other dogs in the puppy's bloodlines performed--grandparents, aunts, uncles, previous puppies from the same breeding or half siblings?

Unfortunately I can't see the picture you've posted. When I click on the link you gave, it says I need permission to view--is it labeled as public access? The easiest way to post a picture is to use an online photohost like flickr or imgur. We have a tutorial for using flickr--https://www.dobermantalk.com/new-member-introduction/290802-how-post-photo-using-flickr.html

Without a picture, there really isn't any way to tell if the pup even approaches show quality; even with pictures, there are a number of intangibles which would determine how good he is likely to be that won't really show up in a picture.

Hi unfortunately I do not live in the US. I live in Indonesia. The dam is a one time all breed regional(one of the most prestigious region for dog show in Indonesia) champion, and four time second tier doberman regional championship. The sire is Harro von Frakenburg (grandson of international champion PRIDE OF RUSIA ALTAY). The dog I’m picking is not the best of the litter but is the 2/3 tier. Here is his picture https://www.flickr.com/photos/186347.../shares/q85NJw , thank you so much for helping me

What does your breeder say? Here in the US, a breeder would mentor you and help you with this.

The problem is that most of us are in North America so we know what may be considered show quality here. I'm not sure what would pass as show quality in Indonesia, but for sure his feet are really flat and that is pretty faulty. This puppy doesn't look really show quality to me. You know, you can breed the best to the best and not get show quality puppies - that's just the way it is.

How old is the puppy in the picture? It looks very young to me (5-6 weeks), and we don't generally judge puppies till 8 weeks in the US and Canada. So many things change week to week with puppies. I also wish there were more pictures. I agree with Mary that the feet look very flat when they should be more compact and "cat like". I also know nothing about the quality of Dobermans in your country - so not sure what would be considered show quality or not. Do you have stacked pictures of the parents?

The picture of the sire looks like an extremely Euro type dog. It would be almost impossible to make comparisons about show quality between an AKC, CKC or South American type and the Euro dogs who are shown differenctly and in very different condition.

Ask the breeder of maybe go to some shows in your area and find some Doberman exhibitors and ask them to look at your puppy to see if he may be show quality.
