FOR EVERYONE WHO WAS AT MD SHOWS LAST WEEKEND:

This is from my private FB account but I want to get the word out to anyone who was at the MD shows last weekend. Mojito was a gorgeous, sweet, very loved German Shepherd. I am one of his breeders and a co-owner. His people are devastated.

Update: Thank you all for your prayers. Unfortunately, we lost Mojito this morning. Mojito has been being shown and was WD this past Sunday in MD. He’s been a very healthy dog and was feeling great until Wednesday evening. He was seen & treated with antibiotics by a vet on Thursday (his caregiver took him in after missing just one meal...she knew something had to be wrong). By Saturday (even with antibiotics), he had horrific pneumonia. The Life Center in Leesburg was fantastic but couldn’t save him. We will be doing a lung biopsy to see what caused the pneumonia. If it is infectious, I will let everyone know. As for right now, if you were at the shows last weekend in Maryland, take your dog’s temperature. Get them into a veterinarian ASAP if they have a temp and start antibiotics. Mojito’s caregivers were fantastic and did everything right, but we still couldn’t save him. We will be praying that no one else has to go through this, but please watch your dogs carefully. Whatever this was, it was very very fast and deadly.

IF YOU WERE THERE, keep a CLOSE eye on your dogs.

I was there with Mabel all 3 days, and I am worried. I am hoping that the dog that died had a rare terrible reaction to common kennel cough.... I guess we will find out in time. My Mabel apparently picked up kennel cough when she was at shows in Maryland in February.... and it took 10 days before she came down with it. It was pretty nasty for a couple of days, and I left Florida with her early and drove home..... so much for that vacation. By the time we got home 2 days later, she was much better. Mabel did have her borditella drops AND the 2 step flu shot - so maybe that helped her to get over it fast. My other 2 dogs did not get it.

I will be watching Mabel closely, and will be following this story. I hope no other dogs end up like that poor GSD!

It's especially scary to hear about something like this with some of the new disease strains being imported from overseas. Fingers crossed it was a one-off situation.
