Showing Strife

I feel like I haven't updated anyone on him in forever so... here we are!

It's been an adventure, that's for sure! We are still taking things slow but I'm hoping [cross your fingers and toes!] to have him finished by the time he's 3.

His first weekend out was in Dripping Springs back in September. RWD his first show, nothing day 2 because he was bratty. Next event worth noting was Canton, where he took WD both days with Nikki [his breeder].

After that was Belton and Rosenberg, but we had no luck.

Hobbs was my first time showing him myself. RWD with him my very first time in. I wasn't nearly as nervous as I thought I would be. Definitely nervous though. Midland came and went, and it was another RWD when I took him in on the last day.

No complaints. Slow going, but we will get there. He's awesome.

How cute--congratulations on the RWD's--and to you for being brave and trying it out for yourself.

I had to laugh about you being nervous. The conformation ring didn't make me nervous but the Obedience ring sure did--I swear I used to hold my breath from the judge's first "Are you ready?" To the last "Exercise finished.

Finally ended up meeting a person who is now a very good and old friend who LIKES! performance rings and has put practically every Obedience, Rally and Agility title that all of my dogs (lots of those titles) have gotten since 1999.

Good luck in the future...

Judge is Judith Brown. Not surprised she likes Strife, she likes Mikki. as a side note Dobermans are the first breed she started judging back in 1990

In my head I was like, "Ashley, you've literally done a personal dinner party for the governor. You've catered 400 head weddings almost alone. You've got this."

I stepped into the ring and was like OH MAN I SOOO DON'T GOT THIS. 😂

The nerves got easier as I went though. I get over that quickly. I got more flustered about someone asking me last second to take their puppy into Breed for them than I did taking my own dog into AmBred. Maybe it's because I mentally prepared with Strife. Oh well. 😂

It's definitely fun. Fortunately I understand that it takes time in dobes and I'm enjoying the ride.

Thanks! Next we hit the specialty in Ft Worth [I'm not crying, you're crying] and then we try our luck in Shreveport. Can't get better unless you actually get out and do it, right? Maybe?

I'll be in my hotel room chugging pinot noir.

So glad you are having fun! I know conformation isn't anything I'd ever be confident enough to do!

I'll pass along what a professional handler said to another professional handler who was complaining that she hadn't entered any dogs in the three dog weekend because she didn't like the judges--her dogs never did well under them.

The handler who'd been listening to her said--"You do know that if you don't enter you definitely won't win don't you?"

So yeah, you're right--you also can't get better at it if you don't get out and do it--just remember to smile. Aw, you don't even need to smile (heavens knows there is no picture anywhere of me handling a dog with a smile on my face...) but you do have to pretend you're having fun or the dog won't know why he's out there.

a bit of enthusiasm from the handler is noticed by the judge. Kind of like the handler saying LOOK AT THIS DOG, Isn't it special?
