Professional croppers (who are not vets) DO use anesthesia. Nothing cruel about it. I also use a vet but know some very good croppers who I trust completely (and have used).

Dogs will usually sort of self limit their exercise to what they are capable of and comfortable with.

Bad feet don't necessarily mean the dog will have foot problems due to exercise....
