Sofia

On October 1st with her stoic yet determined manner.... she came to me...lifted a paw..looked me straight in the eye and said just like her role model and diva supreme Miranda Priestly:
" That's all."
We rushed her to Apple Valley Animal Hospital where they gave her oxygen to try and stabilize her respiratory distress. It was only temporary...
she.. we. the staff... all knew... time to say goodbye.
There were options... vets will always give you options... non of the heroic measures would save her life..only prolong it for a couple of weeks,... and we refused to allow the trauma of congestive heart failure to take away the peaceful and dignified ending we gave her.
Sofia was in no pain... the reassurance of that is a blessing... as we laid down beside her and she was given the sedation to relax her before the final administration.. she laid her paw on top of Mike's hand as if to say: "Thank you Dad.. Be brave.."
It was a Diva command... and we're trying..
Along with the waves of grief come memories of glorious days with this glorious girl.
She is and always will be
Sofia the Dober Diva

I'm so sorry.

Oh so sorry to hear about Sophia. I remember that picture of her - so beautiful. Time with these lovely dogs is much too short, but they pack those years with so much joy that stay with us forever.
And I know dogs can tell you when it is time. I have experienced that and your post touched me with remembrance and tears.

Gretchen_Red 11-01-2018 10:49 AM

I'm so sorry. The hardest thing to do is to let them say good bye.

LadyDi 11-01-2018 10:50 AM

This is one of the last photos we took of our girl. She was FOURTEEN. Such an amazing life we had with her. Mike was " Her Boy.' No matter how many times I combed her hair, brushed her teeth, gave her new clothes or fed her the special diet that kept her healthy and so happy for so many years.....she adored her Dad.
Rest in Peace Sweet Sofia.

I'm sorry for your loss. RIP Sofia. :crying:
Sofia had a great long dynasty as Dober Diva for 14 years!
It's great that her life has been documented in a book.

Thank you for being such good custodians of your lovely lady, Sofia!

(My favorite Sofia picture is of her dad holding umbrella over her during potty time in rain shower)

I'm so sorry.

We've been losing way too many of our older dobes recently. It's something you always know is coming, but are never prepared for. I'm glad you guys had such a long time together and that she was able to leave you peacefully.

Sofia was definitely the definition of a dober diva and will be missed by all.

Good night Sofia. Sleep well.

When you run into my boys over there, say "Hi". They will be your friends.

@ Lady... It is so hard. But the memories... The memories....

Amen - Brother John - you couldn't say it any better

Fitzmar Dobermans 11-02-2018 08:15 AM

No matter how long we have them, it is never long enough. 14 years was a fantastic run for a Doberman, and I'm so glad that you gave her dignity at the end. Hugs to you both, and RIP Sofia ... run free where the good dogs go.

eighmie 11-02-2018 08:27 AM

I'm so sorry. Losing these dogs hurts so much. Sending hugs your way.

greenkouki 11-02-2018 09:27 AM

MeadowCat 11-02-2018 07:13 PM

I'm so very sorry. Thinking of you.

Control_Freak 11-02-2018 09:25 PM

My dear Kate, we've all grieved dear Sofia over the past few weeks. She was a wonderful girl but you already know that. I can just see her and Athena running around, playing, basking in the sun and telling each other funny stories of their momma's. Lots of love darling.

Lady Kate - I am so very sorry, Sofia had to go to heaven.
- I took the liberty for linking your special photo, truly a spectacular bond of Love & Trust
- Sweet Sofia lived an extra long & blessed life...so reminds me of our dear Amy
- so I searched her last thread, and dedicate Sofia and her family...the "Amy poem"

The smart dogs, do communicate to us till their last day / they always truly care, about our human feelings.
- they live as old as they can, to delay their families sadness...as their job in life, is always making us happy

- Gone from our touch...but their presence is felt.
- And the love that they gave us, never departs.
