Sorry, just saw this thread. Very sorry for your loss. I am 68 and don't think Baron will be my last Dobe. Hoping to have a Dobe as long as I can. Oh, and congratulations on your new one. Hoping to see lots and lots of photos.

There just are no words

There just are no words. Only time can heal the pain. Remember the good, you were both lucky to have shared the time together.

I am 67, still work full time and SE is 4 years old. Lots of training for both of us. It is my "crack". Crack would probably be cheaper to deal with. SE is my third Doberman. Unlike some, I didn't get to enjoy the breed until later on in my life. After my 2nd dobie died in my arms before she was 6, I swore I'd never own another dog. But, I flat couldn't handle the stillness in the house and the ticky, ticky toenail sounds on the floor. She has met all of my needy expectations and she keeps me as sane I as can be. I have thoroughly enjoyed training and showing her. We both have issues, but we both work on the issues. I can't imagine her not being in my life. We will see where I am at some years down the road. At some point in time, an older person has to deal with the fact of what happens to the dog if something happens to me. But I am not there yet. Good luck with your puppy and enjoy!

I was running Bacchus in agility every weekend at age 67. Three classes a day for three days in a row. I was old, fat and had asthma. And we did well enough to be #1 Preferred Agility Doberman in AKC that final year. So I don't think age is the big factor.

Don't you just hate it when somebody asks for a opinion on a new puppy - then gets a new puppy and then don't post up any pictures of him or her ?

Just wondering how ole Acro is getting along - Hope all is well

Come on Acro - get back on here with a update

BTW Sandy - That was a very good post you put up ! One Question Sandy - after this past winter - any thoughts on moving to FLA ???

The responses to this post have given me a lot of encouragement. While I'm only 36, I had a very bad knee injury about 4 years ago. I broke my patella (kneecap), and it was horrific. I had to have surgery, which took almost twice as long as they thought it would because the damage was so much worse than what the x-ray originally showed. I was in a brace for about 8 weeks. Afterwards I did physical therapy for what seemed like forever.

Every now and then my knee will almost "give out." Running is completely out of the question for me. I can, and do, walk a lot, but if I overdo it I end up with a giant swollen knee.

I feel in love with the Doberman, but worried that because of some of my physical limitations, I might never be able to own one, because it wouldn't be "fair" to the dog. This thread has really encouraged me though. I realize that a lot of it has to do with my own mindset and dedication. Just because I'm a little "gimpy" at times doesn't mean that I wouldn't be able to properly care for a Doberman in the future.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY...Acro, we need pics of your new puppy!!!!
