Absolutely broken. Just broken

We lost our amazing gentle giant Hunter last night and I don't know if I can stand the pain. It's simply debilitating!! Hunter was 7 yrs old and after a day of antibiotics for what the vet said was kennel cough, we rushed him to the hospital only to find he was suffering the late stages of DCM and chose the humane thing was to put him to sleep.
He was my world. My life. The pain is so deep I can't seem to deal. How do you do it? I find myself just gazing off into space and crying that deep uncontrollable cry wanting him back. What to do‽ Absolutely broken. Just broken-img_0242.jpg

You cry. You hurt. You remember how special he was and then hurt some more. I wish there was something I could say to you to help you feel better.

I’m so sorry.

Dear HudsonValley Dobie.

I am so sorry for the passing of your beloved Hunter. I cannot offer you any consolation, other to say that most of us who have are familiar with this breed, have experienced a loss due to DCM. It is a curse shared by all Doberman lovers.

When we lost our "gentle giant" a few years back (DCM sudden death syndrome), my solution was to return to my favorite breeder and get a new pup. Now, at 2 1/2 yo, he is the love of my life.

Perhaps this might work for you.

My best to you and your family.

John

Sadly, too many of us have gone through this same situation. And it is unbearable. Our beautiful, loving, loyal and devoted companions have so many health issues. And it cuts to the core when we lose one. I hope the memories of your dobie are good ones and may they help sustain you through this horrible time.

Agree 100%.

I know you won't believe this but it will get easier with time. One day it won't hurt quite as much as it does right now. You will think of Hunter with a smile on your face & without tears in your eyes. Your loss is so recent, give yourself time to grieve for the loss of your beautiful boy.

Hugs to you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I also wish that something I could say would ease your pain. Losing our pets is such an awful experience. If you are able, I recommend the article that is linked in this thread - https://www.dobermantalk.com/rainbow-...-relative.html. It took me some time to get through it, but I found it helpful. Know that you are not alone and honestly, I wouldn't fight the tears - let yourself grieve. It's all part of the healing process. Sending hugs to you. RIP Hunter.

Thank you all so very much for the kind helpful words. Please know they've all helped in making me feel a little better. In 2009 shortly after getting Hunter I hurt my back at work and ended up retiring at the age of 50 a few years later. He's been by my side ever since. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.

Joe, I don't know what it is about these dogs that can work their way into your hearts and just become a part of you. I have had dogs all my life and cried my eyes out over many, many of them, but to think of my Doberman not being in my life is more than I can envision. I really feel for you.

We lost our boy to Wobblers 5 years ago at the age of 5. He underwent horrific spinal surgery only to be put to sleep 2 weeks later. I know exactly how you are feeling my whole world felt like it had fallen apart, it will get easier I promise. Still regularly shed a little tear but am grateful for the short time I got to spend with him. Sending big hugs xx
