Goodbye sweet McCartney

My cat got sick over the weekend. I noticed Sat when I got home from work he had only nibbled at his food. Sunday he did nothing but sleep on my daughter's bed. So I took him to work with me and his blood work showed his bone marrow wasn't working at all. He was put on fluids and antibiotics and hoping it was a bad viral infection.

Today there was no improvement so a feline leukemia test was done and was negative. The next option would have been to test his bone marrow to see if it was indeed cancer. I declined the test. He was 16 years old and even if it was cancer, there isn't a cure for it.

So McCartney went to the bridge today with all my other cats and Dobermans today. The last words he heard were me telling him I love him and he will be ok.

My heart is breaking, but I feel good at least he had a good long life.

I found him when he was 7 months old and he out lived 3 of my Dobermans. He was a great cat to have with dogs. He would just plop down in front of them to clean them or play. He was often used as a chew toy. You know how Dobermans niggle with their front teeth? That is what he put up with and came back for more.

He was always great with my kids. Never once scratched or bit them even though my daughter went through a phase of dragging him by his tail.

He was a great cat and will be missed. RIP sweet McCartney.

Oh how sad for you Co-Al's Mom He looks just like a cat I had when I was younger named Jack. He did live a very long life, and I am sure that he knew how loved he was. He will be waiting for you. RIP McCartney.

CM, I'm so sorry. But, wow, 16 years! He was so luck to have had you. Not many cats that are "found" are so fortunate.

Thank you all for the comments. I still can't believe he is gone. Sixteen years is along time and all of a sudden they aren't there.

At least my daughter isn't taking this as bad as she did losing Cole. I really hated to tell her so soon after losing Cole, but she seems to be ok.
