Sorry for your loss. RIP Brusco. Run Wild and Free Forever.

I think second guessing is part of the grieving process. Although he is not suffering.

Thank you everyone for your such kind sweet thoughts. You are wonderful people.

I am at such a loss..... I miss him so very much.

There is no other breed like a Dobermann, but I am so fearful of going thru this yet again. Through my research, it doesn't look like you can really predict if your dog will develop it as some do not show it until 7 or 8 and have been breeding years before.

Is there a organization that is actively doing research so we can find a gene, like vWd? I would donate to them.

I need to have a dog in my life, I so scared to get another Dobermann.

Also, I have a ton of meds left over. Does anyone have a good suggestion of what to do with them? Hundreds of dollars....

I love you all. Thanks again, Michelle

A Doberman Prayer

I was standing on a Hillside

In a field of blowing wheat

and the spirit of a Doberman

Was lying at my feet.

He looked at me with kind dark eyes

An ancient wisdom shining through

And in the essence of his being

I saw love there too.

His mind did lock upon my heart

As I stood there on that day

And he told me of this story

About a place so far away

I stood upon that hillside

In a field of blowing wheat

And in a twinkling of a second

His spirit left my feet.

His tale did put my heart at ease

My fears did fade away

About what lay ahead of me

On another distant day.

I live among God's creatures now

In the heavens of your mind

So do not grieve for me, my friend

As I am with my kind.

My collar is a rainbow's hue

My leash a shooting star

My boundaries are the Milky Way

Where I sparkle from afar.

There are no pens or kennels here

For I am not confined

But free to roam God's heavens

Among the Dobie kind.

I nap the day on snowy clouds

Gentle breezes rocking Me

And dream the dream of earthlings

Of how it used to be.

The trees are full of liver treats

And tennis balls abound

Milk Bones line the walkways,

just waiting to be found.

There even is a ring setup

The grass all lush and green,

Where even Rescue Dobermans

Become the best of Breed.

For we're all winners in this place

We have no faults, you see.

And GOD passes out blue Ribbons

To each one, even Me.

I drink from waters laced with gold

My world is beauty to behold.

And wise old dogs do form my pride

To amble at my very side.

At night I sleep in Angel's arms

Her wings protecting me

And moonbeams dance about us

As stardust falls on thee.

So when your life on earth is spent

You stand at heaven's gate

Have no fear of loneliness,

For here, you know I wait.

Brusco and DCM

I am so sorry . . it was a year ago I was in your shoes, we also lost our beloved Daisy to DCM at 6 years old.

I donated her meds to my vet, as she had a client whose dog had DCM and was having trouble affording the meds. Or maybe there is a rescue that needs them?

Hugs to you, I know how much it hurts. I miss Daisy every day.

Brusco was very special & his paw print...was forever tatted to your heart / this I feel, in your original post.
- like myself, older member here...we should never have to bury a child...2 legged or 4
We went through this process, last year/late summer...time only helps some, but never fully takes the pain away....your not alone, my friend !!

DobieDiver - your boy is forever grateful, of the daily family love you always placed on him...sadly, they also know when their time with us is coming to a close.
- only respect and compassion is all we can offer, and that becomes enough for them...they know.

------------Kelly & (Amy - RIP @ 11.7 y/o)

I printed a copy of that lovely poem.
I cry with all of you that have lost one of these stoic, beautiful animals.
The only way I stay sane is, I guess, put myself in denial. I do my best not to think about it. Everytime I read about the loss of one of these beauties is to remind myself that loss was part of loving something. Now that I have her it scares the crap out of me because I love her so much that I don't know how bad I'm going to come apart if/when I lose her.
One of my co-workers helped by telling me, "You know, Lois, yes it's painful to lose one, but just think about all of the love and joy you would have missed out on by not having her." I try to remind myself of that.
I really do feel such deep emotional loss with each of you that have suffered this. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are truly with each of you.
