what else do I need?

Tucker comes home on the 24th...

Here's what I've got so far:
  • Crate
  • Bed
  • Collar
  • Tag
  • Leash
  • 2 Bowls
  • Food
  • Training Treats
  • Posting supplies
  • 20' Training leash
  • Rope Toy
  • Puppy Kong
  • Kong Stuff-a-ball
  • Stuffies
  • Retrieval bumpers
  • Cuz
  • Nylabone puppy chews
  • Puppy-sized coat (it's still cold here)
  • Poop pick-up bags

I'm trying to get everything ready for when he gets home. We don't have a great selection out here, so I order a lot of things online. Am I missing anything?

Carol, I just noticed when I posted after you that we have the same quote. I just saw the quote yesterday when my friend sent it to me and I loved it. Hope you don't mind. I can look for another one.

I like the bully sticks--well not me, the puppy likes the bully sticks.
Stack of newspapers or pee pads
My puppy likes his snuggle pal (stuffie with a heart beat)
Big sponge, bucket and cleaner

When do you get your new puppy? How exciting. I couldn't stand it for about the two weeks prior. Do you have pictures yet?

sorthund 02-12-2008 07:06 PM

Tucker is a puppy right?....
Papertowels
Nature's Miracle
Bitter Apple

MaryAndDobes 02-12-2008 07:17 PM

Nail clippers
Quick Stop or similar product
Dog shampoo
Hound glove and/or horse hair brush

BanesDaddy 02-12-2008 07:24 PM

exactly as stated....get some sleep lol...because every two hours i take Bane outside to go potty....it almost feels like i dont sleep at all

I found I'm not using her 20 foot leash yet. I have a 6 foot for walks, a 10 foot for trying her to the boyfriends desk... wound up needing two crates because I sleep during the day and he keeps her downstairs in his office with him (works from home) but she needs a crate there... dog beds at every office... and double the posting supplies that I thought.

So you are all set :)

lcerbone 02-12-2008 09:40 PM

a whole lot of patience! For posting I use the Johnson&johnson Zonas tape,1 inch thick and unisolve adhesive remover wipes for when you repost. For the kong toy Kaizer,my dobe, does not like the treats that you stuff in it that come with the kong so i put a little peanut butter inside and he goes nuts, trial and error..good luck!

CoAl-s-Mom 02-12-2008 10:09 PM

A dremel
Cotton balls
Ear cleaner
Toothbrush
Dog toothpaste
Nature's Miracle
A Zoom Groom
Enrollment in a couple of obedience classes

I'm glad you clarified that! I was getting worried. Although some days, I feel as if I could use one to chew on to tame my overwrought emotions!!!!:biggthump

clipclop 02-12-2008 11:08 PM

Great post- I'll be referencing this when its closer to me getting my pup- I still have SO much to get! I'm holding off on getting posting supplies until I talk to Nikki (breeder) and she tells me what method she recommends-

Quita 02-12-2008 11:17 PM

Xpen.. I use the pen instead of gates. Also, raw marrow bones are wonderful. They don't crack and splinter. Risa LOVES, LOVES, LOVES them. I get raw buffalo bones from a pet store, but our local grocery store sometimes has raw marrow bones too. (They are much cheaper from the grocery store.) Lots of paper towels. If you have carpet, some good carpet cleaner....and lots of it! I really like "Spot Shot."

berkshire 02-13-2008 12:08 AM

Wow! Thanks - you guys are awesome. I have Nature's Miracle under my sink for cat related carpet issues...

Camera will definitely be handy at all times!

With 9 dogs, I don't know what I'd do without my Little Green Machine.

DobeGirl07 02-25-2008 02:43 PM

This is a great reference for those getting a new puppy! When do you get your little love?

Lexxsmom 02-25-2008 03:35 PM

today is the day isn't it?!!! yay! I think your list sounds amazing,...goodluck!

berkshire 02-25-2008 04:43 PM

Well I got the last part of the 'what I need' list - the puppy!

Currently, we're working on crate and potty training. Neither are really something he's interested in. He hates the cold weather, despite his fleece and would much rather potty inside than out in the cold and rain.

He also HATES being left alone, especially in his crate. But he's only been home 24 hours - we're working on it. Wish me luck! He's currently in his crate howling up a storm - I figured now is a better time to practice crating than 10:00 pm, when I have neighbors all around me...

bubsy 02-25-2008 04:54 PM

He is adorable, have fun with him!

reddobes 02-25-2008 04:57 PM

Congrats on finally getting your pup! I'm sure he was well worth the wait! :)

sebsyd 02-25-2008 04:57 PM

Congratulations on your new baby! It was worth every moment of waiting, right????
Good luck with him. The potty training will eventually work out. In a few years!!!! only kidding!Try to put a radio on low near his crate for company. Maybe throw his blankie into the dryer and have a stuffie for him to cuddle. I am sure that you have already thought of all of this. Good luck. Keep us posted.

ps he is adorable!!!!!!!!!
