I have always been disturbed by people who want a doberman yet leave out a very important piece of care. They they find a vet, buy a bed, buy food, buy leashes and cute collars, buy toys and do all kinds of research but leave out a very important part. I feel most new people to the breed and many previous doberman owners do not realize How important EAR POSTING is.
Every time I see a thread where a pup has pockets, tips fall off because of improper posting or have just plain given up, really upsets me.
If you are going to choose a cropped doberman, know that posting is extremely important and if not done correctly leads to unnecessary pain, infection and ultimately a cosmetically icky dog. It is up to the buyer to EDUCATE themselves, ask the breeder to show them how to do it and if they don't crop for you go somewhere else.
Posting is a vital step in caring for your doberman and must be done correctly. After crop care and posting is very difficult and stressful. It is months worth of work. It is so difficult to help someone if they have no idea when they should even begin posting.
This should be written in the contract and made clear that a buyer know what the heck they are doing.
Chatty is now off her soap box.
