Smile allergies?

hi all,
ever since the weather has gotten a little warmer, my pup (just turned 1) i think is allergic to something outside. i guess for lack of a better term, in his armpits the skin is turning raw and red. it gets really moist almost like he's sweating and has a little odor to it. it only started when the weather started to turn and he started laying on the ground outside. anyone ever seen this? thanks to everyone, have a good day

One of my dogs has outside allergies, I have done Allergy testing so I do know what allergies he has. If you cannot do the testing I would suggest you start by changing your dog to a grain free diet (watch the dog treats too). I know you said that you think it may be outside but it can also be a combination and because of his young age you might just be see it coming out now. I also give Benedryl which helps him, we just started the allergy injection.

Have you used any type of sprays on him? Does he sleep on a bed or blanket? It maybe the soap that you wash with!

Good Luck, I hope you find what is causing his irritation.

I have a dog with horrible allergies. If you can, I'd suggest finding a dermatologist and having the intradermal skin testing to find out exactly what it is that he's allergic to. Then they can give you a serum that is specific to his allergies. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. It didn't help mine. The dermatologist told me I can do oatmeal baths up to two times a week and those seem to help him more than anything else. You may also try benadryl (25 mg per 25 lbs) or even another antihistamine like claritin (not sure of the dosage on that one).

I'd go to the vet - if the pits have an odor, it might be some other type of thing in there and not just allergies... maybe a yeast infection? I don't know enough about skin issues but would have a vet look before assuming it's allergies.

Is there any body / foot scratching or licking? Sneezing, hacking, or increased snot/eye boogers etc? These are the things I associate more with allergies.... but again I could be wrong.
