Paperwork

Good Morning,

I recently posted about what to receive when picking up puppy. We picked up our girl one week ago, and only received a copy of the contract (which someone on here mentioned is bare bones minimum). I was told we would receive AKC papers in the mail. Should I be concerned or is that something that does happen? No copy of application. If so, how long would that take? Also, does parent health testing come with that, or is that something I should’ve / should ask for? I am totally new to this and want to make sure we are getting the proper things. Thanks so much!

My experience with both of my breeders is that I received a large binder with both puppies. It included copies of all of the parents' health testing results. It showed the puppy's pedigree, although you still have to wait for the official AKC registered pedigree in the mail, because the owner information has to be sent in. My binders have a bunch of information on what vaccines and vet care the puppy had already had, information on caring for my puppy, mine had photos and information on my puppy's parents and even grandparents. There was also, of course, a copy of the contract I signed when I picked up the puppy. They are large binders!

However, I think I remember you got a pup from Feverhaus? Mitch is well known as a reputable breeder. Every breeder does things differently. If you didn't get a copy of the health test results from him, I'd simply let him know that you'd like those, and ask to have them. You can certainly put together your own "puppy binder."

It does take time to get your puppy's official registration from AKC. You can verify that with your breeder that he sent in the paperwork for you. Did he pick the registered name and send that in?

Thank you, yes. I’ll do that. We picked the name, and I think he knew the name we picked. More concerned about the health testing just for peace of mind.

I appreciate your help.
