Puppy

Question..... if we are getting a dobe puppy when would be a good age to get another one? We have read alot about not getting litter mates. We are just wondering what age is good to get another puppy. We want a boy and a girl.... with that being said what is better to get first the boy or girl??

I'd wait until the first dog is at least two years old. I really don''t think you could pay me enough to try raising two puppies at once. By about two years of age, they are starting to get their brains delivered.

Whichever gender you get first is kind of up to you, but talking about it with the breeder is always a good idea. In the past thirty years, I've had four bitches (Dobe X, mutt, GSD, and APBT) and one male (Standard Rat Terrier).

Welcome to DT : )) Many , many ideas on your question , We have always had a pair of dogs here on the farm - The age between Kasia and Ai was 7 years and the difference between Ali and Kadin is 5 - in both cases - especially Kasia and Ali - we just couldn't find the right breeder and the lists were long and just had to wait .

I'm pretty sure that Meadowcat will jump in here and will say and I will agree - when the are super close together - there is always a chance when they get older of losing them close together - hard to say that , but its a fact , I know that anything could happen and it all most happened here even with a wider range of age but the chances are in your favor that it won't .

My wife don't like the age difference like we have , but I tend to like them spread out about 4 years would be great ,that gives you time to train and learn that one dog . Like I said before - its not easy to just pick up the phone and call a very good breeder and say -- I want a puppy - lol And they may not breed a lot to begin with , We are getting a new little girl in July and its been almost 3 years since there last breeding .

Just remember one thing - how it was to train and take care of one puppy ! getting 2 is not a double the effort ! It's more like times 5 or more sometimes , Even when they get older - having 2 is lots more work - Work ? That is not the right word to use , maybe attention ( that's it ) that they will not only need but they will demand it

It depends on you on which is better to get first.

But please look up littermate syndrome before getting two from the same litter.

I'm closing this thread, as you essentially asked the same question in your other thread here: https://www.dobermantalk.com/puppy-c...ttermates.html
