Along with the borrowed puppy who recently discovered the joy of the tough outside leaves of ordinary green cabbage I have had a series of cats (at least one of the resident cats fall into this category) who LOVE cantelope--I don't know--my pets all seem to be just as "not quite right" as I am.

Ripley got them almost every time we had handling class. She became a counter surfer for pizza. It took a LONG TIME to break her of the habit.

My first pup, Deckard, was with us the year we grew lots of fun food plants. We did sugar beets in a container...he would pee on the side of the container, then crop the leaves of the beets. Apparently they were quite tasty!

I am the sea witch. I am the tide you fear and the turning you can't deny. I am the sound of the waves running over your bones on the beach, little man, and I am not amused at finding you on my doorstep.

Beets are certainly my favorite greens. As tender as spinach, but with a better flavor that doesn't leave your teeth with as much of that weird surface feeling.

Probably not so good with a pee sauce, however.
