It's great to see all of their different personalities REALLY starting to come out. It's getting easier and easier to see which puppies want to work and which would rather lay around. Which ones have a working temperament and which ones don't. They are all so different even when it comes to how they react when you trim their nails! Obviously it all can change but they've remained the same thus far.

Loved the stack photos. Was hoping you would stack them up. I think you are right about the blue collar girl.

You do realize that could be a distinct possibility!!! And let me tell you from the Sire's owner who passed down those puppy dog eyes, they will forever be stealing from your soul whatever it is they want. Sometimes I go to leave for work and he just gives me the look and I can't take it and I bring him. My friend calls it his Doe look.

See he has a very correct almond shape eye.

Things could change, her personality is great. She's the "cute" "sweet" puppy that so far doesn't really "stand out" and "wow" you. We just think her head might not turn out as nice as these others. That alllll could change in a week. And when looking for a show ring dog, you're not only looking for great conformation but also the puppy that says, "hey everyone look at ME!!!". Honestly, I've seen many dogs win shows that weren't the nicest ones there but their presentation and wow factor was far and above all the other dogs.

I do think that all them puppies are keeper to me

Capri was good at the sad puppy eyes look too...but her eyes were on the round side anyway.

Apparently dogs actually have evolved some extra face muscles that wolves don't have which allow them to pull off those emotional looks we get from them. From a recent study in PNAS:

https://www.pnas.org/content/116/29/14677
Evolution of facial muscle anatomy in dogs
Juliane Kaminski, Bridget M. Waller, Rui Diogo, Adam Hartstone-Rose, and Anne M. Burrows

"Dogs were shaped during the course of domestication both in their behavior and in their anatomical features. Here we show that domestication transformed the facial muscle anatomy of dogs specifically for facial communication with humans. A muscle responsible for raising the inner eyebrow intensely is uniformly present in dogs but not in wolves. Behavioral data show that dogs also produce the eyebrow movement significantly more often and with higher intensity than wolves do, with highest-intensity movements produced exclusively by dogs. Interestingly, this movement increases paedomorphism and resembles an expression humans produce when sad, so its production in dogs may trigger a nurturing response. We hypothesize that dogs’ expressive eyebrows are the result of selection based on humans’ preferences."

Don't tempt me! But unfortunately, new puppy (especially of the dobe variety) isn't in my future (sad mom eyes). Hairy Dog (and cat and ferrets) are about my limit. *mumbling I can't have a puppy right now; I can't have a puppy right now; I can't have a puppy right now..... sob.....*

That's really cool Mel! I never knew that about dogs.

I understand that not wanting/can't have a puppy. I'd love to have one but I also know it's not in my cards. Self control SUCKS! I WANT ALL THE DOGS!!!!

Sorry I don't have pictures because I was at a work conference but puppies got their temperament test this weekend as well as ears cropped (except for the one that's going to Australia)!

All puppies passed the temperament test with flying colors.

All of the puppies did well on the ear crops, all bled normally which was a great sign.

WE HAVE CONEHEADS!!!

190827 Mav Puppies cropped by Karen Miller, on Flickr

The one puppy is uncropped because she's going to Australia to be shown and to do tracking. Apparently the person getting her is pretty involved with the Doberman club of Australia and maybe is even the president? I don't know her myself but I'll be meeting her next week at our specialty.

LOL...totally! I'm excited because a friend of mine (and fellow club member) just had her bitch whelp a litter about a week ago, so I get to go enjoy puppy snuggles and puppy fun, with no commitment We're going to go see them when they are about 5 or 6 weeks old, so peak cuteness and fun. Should be a very nice litter....if it was about three years from now it would be a LOT harder!
