Is Axel being driven from Croatia to your doorstep?
I may have missed something in the past posts.
How long is that drive?

Think of it. A drive from Croatia to UK in 24 hrs! That's a drive for me from Salt Lake City, Ut to Los Angeles, Ca.!

What a glorious exciting time for you!! Congrats on that handsome puppy. You are in for a fast wild ride with that boy! Take it from me and all the others accidentally injured regularly by the big hard Doberman bodies - you want to make sure the human health insurance has a low deductible. 🤪 But, I’m actually serious.

Also, I remember MANY dogs in the vet clinic over the decades with quite serious injuries from running into large windows. Of course, when the glass breaks it can be devastating, but severe injuries can also occur, especially to the neck, when the glass doesn’t break. It’s a set up for heartbreak so I’d definitely have a significant bunch of stickers on that window at puppy height.

You will want to do lots of 2-5 minute training sessions at home, right from the beginning. They are a super way to bond and very tiring for the puppy (yay!!). I urge you to try clicker training, it’s just plain amazing. Here’s a few things I taught a wild completely unmannerly 4 month old in the 10=days she boarded with me. 2-4 little sessions a day. It’s incredible how quickly the puppies become clicker savvy and immediately start working to do what earns a click.

https://youtu.be/t4iaKrrMRlc

Here’s a link to my Pinterest page with awesome resources for positive training. Dog training isn’t really intuitive- best EVER book, a fascinating read and the perfect explanation for how dogs learn is: THE OTHER END OF THE LEASH. For your sake and the puppy’s sake, please read it ASAP.

If you've got a large window at puppy level, definitely get something to put on it so that he sees it. Lucky, my Rat Terrier, went though an over-sized sliding window used as a patio door at my in-laws' house, resulting in a $300 vet bill and seven stitches to close the two inch long gash on his leg. The next time we visited, my father-in-law removed the sliding portion to prevent Ilka, my mutt from doing the same thing. Instead, she went through the stationary side.... She probably could have done with a couple of stitches here and there, but healed fine.

Give him a kiss and tell him you're sorry that his life will never be the same. It's always hard for the firstborn when another child comes into the family.

We’ve been fussing him extra for a few weeks! We hope he loves stealing people’s warmth so much that once he realises Axel could make a cosy bed friend then they will get along great!

Wow! The worst that ever happened with us is that Capri (who else?) went through the patio door screen. Even that was traumatic (for us, not for Capri...she just kept going.)
