He's here!! Welcome our new baby boy!!

We got back from our amazing 12 day cruise last night and our little baby boy arrived bright and early today as his breeder was going to a show out our way.

He is now 9 weeks old and has been cropped. He is sweet as can be and quite serious for a puppy. It is his first day with us so maybe that will change but if not that is ok because Coco was always quite a serious gal.

Without further adieu please welcome Kin's Sweet Revenge call name Sugar!!

It's hard work being this sweet!! He grunts and groans when he is tired. It is so cute. It may not be so cute tonight when he won't sleep lol!!

melbrod 03-02-2019 06:38 PM

Very cute. He looks all boy in your second picture.

Have fun on your new adventure. I'll be thinking of you come one or two AM tonight. :D

Welcome home and congrats on your new baby.

Cressrb 03-02-2019 11:22 PM

Oh how adorable is that!! I have been waiting for the introduction every since you told us he would be coming soon.
Really handsome. Can't wait to watch him grow up. Congratulations!!

Coco Loco 03-03-2019 08:14 AM

We survived the first night. Started going to bed at 10pm. He fell asleep for 20 minutes and then howled, cried and screamed until midnight. Sugar certainly has some stamina! He fell asleep again in his crate. He fussed a bit at 2am when the cat woke him up but went back to sleep. Up at 5am for a pee and back in his crate until 730.

He ate his breakfast and did his business and is now playing with his toys.

Sugar met Tiki who doesn't seem to mind him too much right now unless he follows her under the table. When he does that she growls at him and he runs away. I told him all he needs to remember is that the old lady cat is the boss of the house :grin2:

ECIN 03-03-2019 08:34 AM

That poor little puppy ! Having to be crated like that ! What he needs is lov-'n' - can't believe he did sleep with yeah - lol

I can't believe its been 2 weeks and your back from your around the world cruise ! Time flys

Just love Sugar :wink2:

Thanks for the updates !

TNfisher 03-03-2019 08:37 AM

So happy for you! Can't wait to see more pics :)

Coco Loco 03-03-2019 08:41 AM

My hubby is a mean man lol. If I had my way he would have slept in the bed! He is currently napping right now on top of me while I lay on the couch because hubby is at the grocery store :wink2:

Cressrb 03-03-2019 10:08 AM

It is the other way around at our house. I am the 'mean' one. I keep telling him, you have to be consistent. If I wasn't diligent he would undo everything by spoiling everyone and chaos would reign.
At least that is what I think.

MeadowCat 03-03-2019 10:26 AM

Congrats!!!

elly 03-03-2019 10:30 AM

What a cute little fellow!! much happiness and joy with him!

Coco Loco 03-03-2019 10:55 AM

Cressrb you could be onto something. Chaos may end up reigning here :2smile:

BTW - Don't listen to Cressrb ! What is a house with Dobermans without Chaos ??? = Boring + what would there be to talk about someday ?? LOL + :grin2::grin2:

LadyDi 03-03-2019 12:21 PM

Yeah....a lot of change for the pup.
Just separated from litter mates....big change along with environment.
I think this age and moment is delicate.
They develop courage and fears based on their experiences.
Spoiling them for a little while is ok.......:2smile:

Cressrb 03-03-2019 01:24 PM

lol - somedays I wish it were 'boring' around here.
Coco, that is the cutest picture of Sugar making his moves. I'm sure he is plans.

Coco- Love your new Doberpup, Sugar!

^^How true, LD!
Couple the new home shock along with a E-Collar and any dog would give you a that serious puppy face!

Our little puppy Spock had same look on his face first few days he was home until he played with our daughter's puppy and chased our old Maine coon cat around backyard.* Let the games begin... :grin2:

Coco Loco 03-04-2019 10:05 AM

We survived night 2. Not as much noise as the first night at bedtime so some improvement. It is a lot of change for the little boy so he is doing well.

A lot of change for us too lol after having a senior dog! I forgot how much puppies pee and sleep!

Sugar is such a cuddler which is right up my alley. Apparently this time it is up my hubby's too :wink2:

His stitches come out later this week and then I will have to learn how to post his ears. Luckily the breeder doesn't live too far away so he can help me which I am grateful for.

Sugar is exclusively eating raw as he was weaned into this. I am so happy about this!

I'm enjoying this little boy but have had some melancholy when I see him playing with Coco's toys and laying on her beds. I bought him some of his own toys and he has been gifted some by friends and family. Sugar is loved by so many already and he is definitely living up to his sweet name!!

Cressrb 03-04-2019 11:42 AM

Coco, have you always fed raw? There is nothing like feeding puppies or kittens on raw food. The clean up, the smell, training - just makes a total difference.

Coco was raw fed for 9 years of her life. I tried kibble the first year and it didn't agree with her at all. I always said if/when I got another puppy I was feeding raw from the start. I lucked out that the breeder also feeds raw and weaned the pups into it so he is a great eater already. For now hes on ground Turkey with bone, offal and tripe. I've got lots of goodies in the freezer to introduce him to in the future that is left over from Coco.

ECIN 03-04-2019 01:25 PM

Ken had a question ! It pertains to feeding raw foods - just curious - But do you have worry about getting sick from feeding raw food ? From the bacteria on food bowls - or from where you prepare it at ? Do you have to super clean there food bowls ?

Thanks

Ken

I personally have never been worried nor has anyone gotten sick from feeding raw at my house. I'm the actual feeder so I've got it down to a science. I liken it to the same safe handling of raw meat that you would be cooking for yourself.

Coco and Sugar both cleaned up their bowls well while eating. I wash bowls regularly but not obsessively. I don't want a big sloppy kiss right after someone has eaten :x

No one is allowed to play with their food or carry it around the house. The bowls are kept on a mat in the kitchen and washed regularly.

I only use human grade raw. At my store people buy some of the meats and organs to cook for themselves. I have a freezer in my garage that I store the raw food in but also keep some of our own food in there too. I have a drawer in the fridge that is for the dog food as I thaw my raw and don't feed completely frozen. Coco didn't like completely frozen food and I don't want Sugar eating it either because hes a baby and I want to make sure he's a good chewer and doesn't gulp and swallow his food. I am supervising his eating for now because he's a baby. With Coco I was in the kitchen with her but knew she was an excellent chewer so didn't need to be on top of her.

It seems daunting and gross when you don't feed raw or when you start but it's really as easy as kibble once you have the hang of it.

FYI for Raw Feeders- Pet Partners (Spock's registration) therapy dog requirements don't allow evaluation or registration of any pet on a raw protein diet within last 4 weeks prior. Besides raw meats, this includes pig ears, raw bones and eggs due to risk of transfer of diseases to clients.

Here is link to Pet Partner's Handler's Guide in PDF that can be downloaded, if you want to check out diet requirements yourselves (pg. 51):
https://petpartners.org/wp-content/u..._1.12.2017.pdf

Aggression Requirements
that might affect Dobe owners that train (or want to train) in Schutzhund protection dog training (quote from pg. 50):

"Aggression
Animals that have a history of aggression toward people or other animals aren’t
eligible to participate. Examples of aggression include growling, lunging, biting
and causing seriously injury. This includes animals who have ever seriously
injured or killed another companion animal.
Animals that have been encouraged or trained to bite — even as part of dog
sports such as Schutzhundaren’t eligible for registration. Although many
dogs that have been trained for bite-work are under very good control, they
present a risk that the Therapy Animal Program simply can’t afford to take."

Just some points to think about if you have a Dobe (like Spock) who has the temperament for Therapy Dog work.... :2smile:

Good thing that Sugar will not be a therapy dog because I would not change my feeding choice. I read and respect their blurb on raw feeding but the irony is that most mainstream vet clinics disagree with raw feeding for various reasons. The clinic I go to subscribes to this notion but luckily the particular vet Coco had and Sugar will be seeing today, sees the benefit of raw feeding.

There are pros and cons of both raw feeding and kibble. As well as multiple studies for and against either method. We just have to feed what seems to be best for our lovies.

GingerGunlock 03-04-2019 02:18 PM

Congrats on your little guy!

Thanks for the info

Thanks so much!! I have been kissing that face a lot and he likes to climb into my lap to cuddle. That won't last too long. He had a wellness check today and he's already 16 lbs!! Good thing Coco was a big gal so I am used to a biggie.

His name started as a joke by my husband but it kept sticking and well he is super sweet so Sugar he is :wink2:

He is helping us heal our heart after losing the old lovey because she left a big hole.

I hope you and your lovies are doing well.

I am back to work today so I usually get up at 530 but Sugar made sure I was up at 5 lol. It worked out because I came to work early and sifted through all my emails.

He was a little better last night but I hope we keep seeing some improvements. My husband is back to work today also so he will be home from 3 to 6 all by himself in his crate. I'm sure he will be very happy when I'm home!!

Ask me Friday how I'm doing sleepwise mel :grin2:

That collar is from Crazy Rebels, they are currently closed to new orders. You have to get on a waitlist and once you are up, it can take up to 6 months.

They do have a lot of ready made sales, look them up on IG and FB.

Congratulations on your newest family member, he is darling. Love those big paws!
We lost our Rexx at the end of September, and my husband and I are ready to bring another Dobe (or two) into our home. Our Java ruled the roost, loved to cuddle on her terms, but Rexx was our sweet, goofy, red 'teddy bear' as my husband called him. He thought he was 8 lbs, not 80+, and would think nothing of flopping beside and partially on you if you were stretched out on the couch. Not such a bad way to watch tv...

I'm so sorry for your losses. These lovies really leave a hole in your heart when they are gone. We had to let Coco go on December 21 and it has been harder than I had imagined. I was looking for a puppy in the summer but things worked out sooner and now Sugar is home with us.

For a woman who never wanted a dog let alone a dobe, I couldn't live without one now!!

Meldrew79 03-06-2019 02:51 PM

Welcome, little one!

Coco Loco 03-06-2019 09:58 PM

Fingers crossed. Last night it only took Sugar 3 minutes to settle before he fell asleep. 2 pee breaks last night and up at 5am again. I'm getting to work a little earlier every morning because of my new alarm clock.

Let's hope for a good settling into bed tonight!!

melbrod 03-06-2019 10:23 PM

Yay, Sugar! Learning the rules of the crate and how to settle on your own, a first step out of many. It's a good start.

And remember, mommies are always more patient and understanding if they get enough sleep.

Yes Doc he found it!! That's one of Cocos oldest beds. Its probably 8 years old. She never bothered with the tags but Sugar is very intrigued by it. Coco really was a good girl and Sugar is on his way to becoming a good boy with guidance along the way!!

Today was a very busy day for Sugar. His 3 sisters, Ginger, Rosie and Nefi, as well as his mom and aunt came for a visit. Chaos reigned in the house with everyone chasing and playing with each other. A lot of excitement pee too lol.

It was hard to get action shots with so many whirling dervishes in the house but I got 2 sweet ones of Sugar and his first mama.

I hear you John. All his sisters still have theirs on too. The breeder would like them on a little longer. Sugar has very few scabs left on his edges. They are healing well so I think the remaining scabs should be gone soon and then he can take it off.

To be honest I'm a little paranoid since this is my first time with cropped ears and don't want to mess anything up. He has a very long show crop which will be beautiful once they are standing.

The irony is that Sugar doesn't even seem to mind the cone at this point but he will look even more sweet when it's off.

Please bear with me!! :grin2:

Coco Loco 03-21-2019 10:16 PM

Here's a pic of Sugars sweet little serious face head on without his cone on. We practised walking up and down our block on a leash.

He went to the vet on Monday and he weighed 21 lbs. I knew he definitely felt heavier when I picked him up.

Potty training is getting better now that most of the snow in the backyard has melted. I forgot how much puppies pee!! Tonight we only had one accident in the house and it was my fault for not taking him out fast enough.

LOL Coco... Puppy chaos! Gotta love it.

I don't relish the thought of a pup on your white (beige?) carpet. Our whole house has tiled floors with pretty much indestructible Persian rugs.

They still beat he crap out of our house. Even as adults! Sugar is an extremely handsome dog.

I forgot... Who is the breeder?

That carpet is 13 years old and has taken a beating with 2 puppies, Cocos sometimes bleeding mass and a long haired cat that is prone to hairballs. Our plan is to replace it with the hardwood we have downstairs but in the meantime we have a good steam cleaner.

Sugar is used to the hardwood so it will occur. Coco had trouble with it when we got it a few years ago so we put the replacement on hold for her.

Sugar is from Kindobe. The breeder lives about 45 minutes away from me so it's been great so far as he comes for visits on Saturdays and Sugars sisters all live close by. Apparently there is an older boy from a previous litter that lives 5 minutes from me. I have been very happy with my relationship with the breeder so far. He has been very supportive and concerned about how his pups are. Totally different experience for me from Coco.

Coco Loco 04-05-2019 01:23 PM

I was away in Albuquerque for the last week for a work conference. My husband came too. What a beautiful city with a lot of history and culture.

Sugar went to his breeder's and spent time with his sister, mom and aunt. My little baby is not very little anymore. His face is starting to mature and he is obviously getting bigger. Sugar came home today so I took some pics when he wasn't flying around the house.

Welcome home......I know its always such a distraction to have to leave your pup.
You are so fortunate to be able to take sugar to a place of familarity......real nice.
Give your pup a kiss for me.......so cute.

I agree LadyDi. It made for a less stressful trip knowing Sugar was with his family of origin. He must have played so much this week that he has been sleeping all day! He just woke up now to eat and play.

https://i.ibb.co/Bwgr3jc/20190405-150214.jpg

I didn't mind the break either because I'm tired from traveling all day yesterday:wink2:

Coco Loco 04-06-2019 10:42 PM

Geez what a night!! We went out for dinner and put Sugar in his crate. We came home to a loose dog with floppy ears with no posts in their ears!! When I walked in I didn't know whose dog was in the house. For a moment I was taken back to Coco as a puppy with her natural ears. Especially since Sugar is wearing one of Cocos old purple collars! Luckily he didn't hurt himself and nothing seems to be destroyed. One of the sides of the crate was not properly fastened and he escaped.

Yesterday the breeder brought him back home and this is a pic of his first attempt at a stack. Once he gets his last set of shots next weekend I am going to start some handling classes so I can practice with him. The breeder will show him but I want to practice with him and the breeder will pay for the classes. It's a win win!!

Sugar is a true Dober-Boy ! lol

Also - I see that Sugar was 21 lbs. when he went to the Vet - Mr. B was 22 . Funny how you remember them things , Even though he weighs 98 - he is still my little puppy - he reminds me many times a day as he jumps up and lays across my lap he in the office .

Ruff up your little dober for me - while you still can - lol

Coco Loco 04-10-2019 07:28 AM

I agreed to watch Sugars sister, Nefi, for a few nights because her owners live very close to me and they had something unexpected come up. She arrived at 8pm last night and it was puppy mayhem!! Play, play, play, pee, play, pee and it repeats :grin2:. I don't know how people ever manage with 2 puppies at the same time. It definitely wouldn't be for me.

Last night Sugar was so tired that he went right to sleep in his crate without any groaning or sighing. Whereas Nefi was not familiar with her new surroundings and fussed for about an hour and then slept through the night. I took everyone out to do their business before I left for work and now it's my hubby's shift >:)

I always loved Coco in purple. That is one of her very old collars. The breeder put a purple collar on Sugar when he still had natural ears and sent me a pic which took my breath away because he reminded me of the old lovey.

I am going to come home early this afternoon to partake in the puppy mayhem!!

Coco Loco 04-10-2019 02:26 PM

The pups went to the park this morning to burn off some energy before my husband went to work. I'm on my way home. He reported that they were very sleepy after the park!!

I'm glad the breeder is coming over tonight to post their ears with a different method because they are too big for the pool noodles now. Not sure if it will be zipties or backer rod. It's all new to me lol.

Last night the breeder came over to post the little babes. Their sister, Ginger, came over too. More mayhem with 3 babies running around the house. Nefi and Sugar slept good last night. Nefi settled in about 5 minutes in her crate which was good.

It was hard to get them upstairs to bed because they were wiped out. :2smile:

Coco Loco 04-12-2019 08:49 AM

Now that I know how to post pics I will keep sharing with you guys!!

This has been such a different experience from with Coco and I'm enjoying it. It helps with my grief because I still miss that old lovey so much. Her birthday is on the 16th and it brings tears to my eyes.

But it's like Sugar knows I need extra love. Hes a very cuddly and sweet boy. He will run around and play with his sisters when they are over and then come for a cuddle and kiss. He is really a heart healer and aptly named.

Coco Loco 04-15-2019 07:49 PM

Sugars ears are coming along. In between postings. His sister had a bad reaction to the backer rod although Sugar seemed to be ok. Except for all the hair that comes off on the tape!! Poor babe.

The breeder is coming over this week to try the ziptie method with the babies.

I was thinking that too mel about the pocket but like you said weve got lots of time. Hes only 15 weeks old today and he hasn't started teething yet. I actually can't wait for that because I forgot how much those puppy teeth hurt!!

Thanks for the compliment. He is looking good. He doesn't look so puppyish now. He just looks like a mini dobe. :grin2:

melbrod 04-15-2019 10:51 PM

You think that now, but when he's all grown, you'll be amazed at how young he looks in these puppy pictures. It's like when I look at my kids toddler clothes...how could they POSSIBLY have been so small? And their newborn clothes are even more shocking.

That's why I like to take pictures of a puppy in the same place every few weeks as he grows...comparing one pic to the next is a lot of fun.

Coco Loco 04-17-2019 07:57 PM

You're right mel. I will be amazed when he is full grown.

Last night the breeder and 2 sisters came over. More mayhem and babies running around like a herd of elephants!! Everyone was posted with zipties. Sugar is tolerating them but adapted much quicker to backer rod so we shall see going forward what we do.

Here's a pic of the handsome boy. Its weird but he loves to sit on steps like this!! Sometimes he sits behind me and puts his paws around my neck. Hes definitely a lovey.

I've been weighing Sugar at the vets on Saturdays because I'm curious. He is growing so fast. Getting longer and taller. Last Saturday he was 35 lbs. If I have time I will go again today. He likes going there and giving the girls kisses. The girls at the front desk love seeing him.

I went to a drop in conformation group which was so overwhelming. I thought it was to teach you but it's to practice running around in the ring. You're supposed to know the basics which we don't. I also don't have a show leash but I have ordered one now. At this point I can't imagine Sugar in the show ring lol and I honestly don't care what happens because he's my pet first and foremost.

Here's a couple of pics of Sugar watching nature shows with dad while mama was at work.

Ken, I used a handy dandy little tool DT has (which is a bit wonky, so I'll forgive you for not using it first) to look it up...

MIA is the one going to the derby.

https://www.dobermantalk.com/general...been-area.html

Per thread, Mary lived in Kentucky back in 2009, so posted about the derby on this thread too. I think you're doing pretty well to even get that close.

ECIN 04-28-2019 03:15 PM

Thanks Mel !! Mine don't have that tool :grin2::grin2::grin2:

melbrod 04-28-2019 03:38 PM

Ummm.....yes it does :P unless your DT site display is weird, which knowing this forum, might be true.

Look under "Thread Tools" on top bar and click on "Advanced Search". Use that option to search :grin2: Note you have the option of searching for a thread or a post (See the "Show Results As" options at the bottom of page) If you're looking for a key word in a particular post and leave "thread" selected, you will just get various threads that have the word somewhere, but you'll have to find the post you want by scanning through them all.

So it's not much use if you're looking for something on the CT, unless you click on "post".

And after typing all of that, I realized you were just joking on me. Phhbbbttt...........

I think he doesn't like his crate again because when mama leaves for work every morning, he and dad lay in bed together and snuggle lol. Dad has gone real soft with this boy and Sugar can lay on the couch and the bed!! Poor Coco had to sneak around behind dads back because mama let her do those things. I'm not complaining because I really don't care about them being on furniture lol.

Coco Loco 04-30-2019 11:19 PM

It's that time again where they will torture me and make me sleep in my crate. I much prefer the couch and bed although I was a bad boy and chewed up mamas glasses. Good thing she has another pair. Mama said I'm too young to sleep out on my own but that we will work on that.

Good night from Sugar.

LOL Coco ! I have seen that look many times : )) It's the Oh chit look ! She is going to put me in that dang crate !

Second - I has to do with that purple collar I'm thinking ! When we picked her up - the breeder warned us she like glasses - Her husband was a truck driver - on one trip to FLA - he took his wife ( breeder ) and they took Ali along too - It just happened that he also wore : Glasses - they stopped at a truck stop to sleep - they got up the next morning and he found that Little Ali had chewed off both stems of his glasses LOL - She did not eat them - but loved to chew on them - Most likely teething deal .

Coco Loco 05-01-2019 06:33 PM

Lol Doc!! It must be the purple collars although this is Cocos old collar and she never chewed up my glasses!!

He bent the one arm and scratched the lenses. I don't wear my glasses all the time and leave them on the coffee table. I learned I will not do that again!! Sugar has taught me a lesson or two since he joined our family.

Hi DT. Now this is more like it. Mama is home today and as long as I keep this big giant bone on the mat I can chew it for as long as I want! I'm practising my chewing and maybe some of my baby teeth will start getting ready to fall out or at least that's what mama says she is hoping for!!

What kind of bone is that? I mean, from where on what animal? I can't quite figure it out from your pic.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Coco Loco 05-03-2019 01:06 PM

It's a beef meaty rib bone. He won't be able to eat all of it but it's got some bits for him to gnaw on and the smaller bits of bone he can eat. My raw dog place suggested I get it for him so he can chew and keep himself occupied. When hes done I put it back in the freezer until next time. This is his 2nd time chewing it and hes been going for an hour. The first time he was much smaller and didn't do much with it. He can probably chew on this thing about 6 or 7 times and it was only $5! It keeps their teeth nice and clean.

Sugar was like that his first day. He fell down a few and cried not knowing how to get up. We have a lot of stairs in this house so he had to learn that day. Now he flies up and down them and likes sitting or laying on them lol.

Coco Loco 05-07-2019 09:02 PM

Sugar was offleash at the dog park which is a 35 mile old conservation area where you rarely run into other dogs because it is so big. There are some fields that are play areas but I always avoided them with Coco. This was Sugars 2nd time there and he does well with his recall and coming back to check in with me. We ran into an 8 month old spaniel which Sugar quite liked and they did chase each other for about 10 minutes. It was hard to get a good pic because the little boy was running so fast. And now hes sleeping :x

Airing out between postings. This boy is getting long and tall. I haven't been able to get him weighed lately so I'm not sure how much he weighs.

I have a course for work tomorrow and my husband is working so Sugar is going for a sleepover soon at uncle's house. I don't know what I will do with myself tonight lol without him.

We have been dremeling his nails 2 to 3 times per week because they grow like weeds. These pics were before we did them last night. He doesn't mind the front ones being done but goes squirrely when the back ones are done. It's a work in progress.

Thanks LadyDi! Posting ears is all new to us because Coco had natural ears. We are doing our best and the breeder is very helpful with posting but we have started to do it ourselves.

I agree with ECIN, your boy is really growing fast- and so handsome! :2smile:

He's right, our "purple Doberboys" seem to grow fast and big.
When Spock matured, he held 85 lbs. for years.

Here's Spock pictured as a purple puppy and a 90 lb. Doberhunk (age 7).
In his later years, he's now trimmed back down to 85, which seems to be an ideal weight for his size.

It's time for a Sugar update. We went to the vet this morning to get his rabies shot. He now weighs 46 lbs! Hes getting long and tall. The vet is very happy with his growth and development as am I and his breeder. Sugar loves going to the vets and kissing all the staff. When he walks in the girls at the front say "here comes Sugar " and his nub goes a mile a minute.

After the vet we went to the contained schoolyard and ran around off leash. He's very sleepy now which is good because I have errands to run this afternoon which I can't bring him to.

I sent these pics to his breeder and we laughed that Sugar is definitely living the good life.

Outstanding young man !

Coco Loco 05-19-2019 08:29 PM

We put our boat in the water this weekend so today was Sugar's first boat ride. I wanted him to experience it young because Coco was 3 when we got the boat and she hated it!! She was always stressed and anxious when she was on it and did not enjoy it.

Sugar walked around the boat while it was going full tilt. He jumped on the different seats, laid on them, stood on them and really had no cares in the world. I couldn't get shots of him in action because I was too worried he would fall in or out of the boat lol.

But I did capture these 2 where he has no cares in the world.

Mel he hasn't been in the water yet because our weather has just started to warm up and the water is still too cold for us to go into.

When I take a shower he whines outside of it and I have to open the door. And then keep him from coming in lol.

He has not been off leash at the pond yet because he is very interested in that water. I don't know if he can swim or get out of the pond himself so he is kept on leash there. Once a year Coco would lose her mind and jump into the pond. But she could swim if she had to and she was able to get out of the pond.

I have Cocos old lifejacket but it's too big for Sugar now. I will have to get him one when the water warms up because I think hes going to want to go in.

ECIN 05-20-2019 08:53 AM

I have been waiting to post this up Coco - Hoping I would see improvement with Sugar - But I have to do it - I can not wait any longer - for it's in Sugars best interest - and that's all that really matters -- right ?

But I see a big problem with him - And I guess the best way is to just - as they say - cut to the quick and spit it out !

Sugar is -- well -- advancing in to adult hood to fast ! He is being way to good and is getting to relaxed around your house - I feel that is my duty as a Doberman raiser - that I step in and help with your problem - My solution is that Sugar come live with Mr. B and Ali to learn the better things in Dober living ! Like chasing the Robins or Killdears off - Barking at Tractors and sprayers driving by and one of the most important - them damn Harley's with the loud pipes !

I think in time - say a few years - I could return him as a well polished Dober Boy - You will be proud of him when company stops by and Sugar runs up to them wanting them to pull his paw ! :grin2::grin2:

Remember Coco - you be 'n' a good friend and all - I volunteer our professional services to help your family out --- lol

Just let me know :grin2::grin2::grin2::grin2::grin2::grin2:

melbrod 05-20-2019 11:46 AM

Don't believe him when he says he'll return the boy. The best you'll be able to do is visit him occasionally. The man hides his true nature behind a friendly smile.

Coco Loco 05-20-2019 12:01 PM

Although this little boy is giving me a run for my money somedays, he is not going anywhere!!

Doc you would really take my heart healer away?!?! If I didn't have Sugar I would cry everyday over the old lovey. Now I'm down to once a week because I'm too busy and tired out to feel the grief everyday.

Although when he destroyed my 2nd pair of glasses last week I would have been willing to ship him out. But it was my fault because I left them on the damn coffee table again knowing I shouldn't have!! Now I've got 2 pairs of glasses with new lenses. :grin2:

No No Coco - I won't want to take your therapy Dober - :2smile: lol Was just going to give him some good pointers - He's so dang good looking - Had to mess with you a little :grin2:

I have found - over the years - most of the time they get into trouble --- Is was something I had over looked and knew dang well better to leave it sit or lay around Because --- Somebody would find it and well - you know what happens next :grin2::grin2:

So glad he his helping you - It sure is tuff to lose one .

Once I decided to get up I had my ears reposted which I don't love but mama says I will be even more handsome when we are done posting so I let her. Then I got to finish off the yogurt which I love. Mama likes when I do that because that was Coco's job and I know mama misses her. That's why I give mama lots of kisses and cuddles.

Good night DT. I'm tired and going to bed soon. I had a busy day going to a class to learn new things and then played with the other dogs....after I stopped barking at them. I just can't help myself although we are working on it. I get to sleep in the bed with mama tonight because dad is at the boat. I hear dad has softened up with me more than he did with Coco. I got to sleep in bed this week with both mama and dad twice!! I sleep really good in their bed and don't play around at all :x

Hi DT. It's been awhile. I'm now 7.5 months old and 66 lbs. I love to eat. My body is growing but mama says my brain is still the size of a pea. That's ok because I love eating peas with mama. I love doing everything with mama including jumping right on top of her when shes on the couch resting. I have to kiss her and have her hold me like I'm still small.

I can now jump on the bed but I'm only supposed to do that when I'm invited. I'm working on that.

I recently have started lying in a spot at the top of the stairs which was Coco's spot. She's always here trying to give me guidance but I don't always listen. I miss Tiki and look for her sometimes. I'm an only child now. More time for me with mama and dada I guess.

I run around a lot. Mama and I are practicing being off leash at the pond. Mama runs around and I follow her. I'm not allowed to go in the water although I would love to.

Here's some recent pics of me.

One last thing. Sometimes mama gets upset about Coco so I run up to her and kiss her face. Today was the first time mama played a game with me where she kissed me and said for me "I love my mama and my mama loves me". I know thats the game her and Coco always played so I stayed still, wagging my tail and kissed her.

Mama: this boy is naughty but he is a definite lovey and heart healer :x

Hi DT. I went to the vet last night because I'm so itchy and have some bumps on me. I weigh 70 lbs now and have a skin infection. My body is growing fast but my immune system hasn't caught up yet. 3 weeks ago I had ear infections but they are gone now. Mama said my ears are always dirty inside whereas Coco had natural ears and her ears were always clean and she never had an infection. That's why I'm mamas special boy :wink2:.

I've got antibiotics and cream for my bumps. I'm also taking benadryl which helps with the itchies and makes me sleepy. I am especially cuddly with mama when I'm sleepy so I love that.

Besides being itchy I feel great. I love to eat and play. Earlier mama took me out for a run at the park and a walk. When I got home I was hot and tired so I laid on the cool tiles. Did that ever feel good!

When mama and I sit out on the balcony at the front of our house, I lean across her lap and sometimes jump up in her lap. Our neighbor laughs and says I'm not a lap dog anymore. What does that mean? I just love mama and have to make sure shes not sad missing Coco.

Mama: this boy is naughty but as sweet as can be. Now I know why the name Sugar came to us as a joke at first and then stuck :x

Coco Loco 08-31-2019 05:57 PM

Mama here...I want to add a story about the vet last night. I really like the vet clinic we go to. We've gone there for 10 years. We've seen every vet in the clinic one time or another but last night we saw our regular vet who was also Coco's. When he walked in the room he gasped and said she's so lovely and called Sugar Coco. He caught himself and apologized profusely to me with a tear in his eye. I told him it was ok because we do it all the time. He said that Coco has definitely left a hole when she left for a lot of people. I agreed 100%. This is quality vet care and why I won't go anywhere else with my animals.

We were laughing that Sugar's brain has not grown yet. The vet told me that every male species is slow at growing their brains so I've got awhile to wait with this boy.:grin2:

I missed this thread before, now I have something to read later! I just caught the first post and the last page. What a GORGEOUS boy he is! You are one lucky mama!

I'm going to live vicariously through you, if you don't mind. I remember these phases of boy-puppiness from my own boy, Ninja, like they were just yesterday... and seeing them again is good for my heart. Thank you for posting them, and I really appreciate Sugar's narratives. They make me smile. :)

Thanks Lannie. If Sugar can bring you a smile and help your heart feel a bit better then he is doing his job. This boy has been healing my heart from my old lovey leaving us since he was born.

I was lucky enough to meet him when he was still in his first mama's tummy when the breeder came over to do a home study on us. I felt those little babes move around while the breeder interviewed us a few days after we had to let Coco go. That whole time is surreal because I was actually looking for a puppy for the summer and didn't know that Sugar's mama was pregnant. The breeder met us and clicked with us right away and bumped us ahead in his waiting list. We were only dobeless for about 3 months until Sugar came home at 9 weeks but he and his sisters came for visits every week starting when they were 5 weeks old.

Sugar is so different than Coco was and he's definitely more naughty! But he's so sweet!

Lannie 09-02-2019 08:44 AM

LOL! His "first mama," I like that! Sweet always wins over any amount of naughty, doesn't it? There were days when I could have cheerfully throttled Zipper to within an inch of her life, but those EYES. She just oozed sweetness and it covered up all her naughty and I loved her with all my heart.

I'm so happy you have Sugar, and I'll enjoy watching him grow up. I'm sure I'll be amused by all his stories and the naughty things he does, but since I won't have to deal with the aftermath, I can just smile and laugh and say, "Oh, yeah, THAT!" Let me know when he starts boinging straight up in the air about 5 or 6 feet. Oh, I remember those days so well. ;)

Lannie 09-10-2019 09:12 AM

I finally had time to go read this entire thread and see all the pictures. It was a combination of smiling, laughing, and misting up! Those FEET!!!!! OMG, I love his big feet! Ah, I love his whole body, but I love Dobie-toes, and he's got good ones. ;)

I used to play a game with Ninny (Ninja) where I'd touch his nose and say, "Is this your Dobie-nose?" and he'd furiously wag his stub. Then I'd touch his toes and say, "Are these your Dobie-toes?" and he'd wag and wiggle. Then I'd grab his stub and say, "Is this your Dobie-nubbie?" (it was just long enough to grab) and he couldn't stand it anymore and would bounce around, jumping and spinning until he finally calmed down and we'd start the game all over again. God, I loved that dog... They were all special, but he was my first, and I got to walk his entire path with him, from start to finish. It was my honor to accompany him.

One of my other boys loved to play games with the fly-swatter. Whenever I was murdering flies, he'd get all excited and I'd stop and swat his butt, which he thought was the BEST! I don't know why... but he loved it! I'd give him a few quick little spanks and he'd tuck his butt under and do that silly running-in-a-small space thing, where the hind feet pass the front, humped up and going in circles. He was so silly. I tried the fly-swatter game with Zipper once, but even though I was acting silly and using the "play voice," she thought I was REALLY spanking her, so I didn't play that game with her. It was just a game that Shogie and I played. They all have their individual likes, don't they?

You are so incredibly blessed to have such a handsome and loving boy in your life. Knuckle his head for me (noogies, you know), play-spank his cute little butt, and kiss him for me.

I should have posted those in Ken's story thread, sorry, but reading all the posts on this thread got my memory going, and they just popped outta me. :)

I need some more pictures of Sugar and stories about his day. I'm really enjoying reading about him.

Mama here...I do apologize for neglecting to update Sugars thread! We've been so busy lately.

I will get on it tonight to have Sugar give you guys an update. I know..bad mama lol

Coco Loco 09-28-2019 10:39 PM

Hi DT. Sugar here. I'm sorry I have been so busy lately and haven't checked in.

I now weigh 75lbs but my brain is still very small. My vet says that's normal and I will be ok. I love my vet so I just kiss his face while he laughs and tells mama I am a sweet boy like Coco was a sweet girl. I know Coco was a great girl because everyone tells me about her and of course I'm sweet. My name is Sugar after all. :wink2:

I'm still itchy sometimes but my bumps have gone away for now. My sisters are all itchy too. Our first mama doesn't have itchies and sensitive skin so maybe we got it from our dad. I take my benadryl and mama puts cream on my skin that feels good.

I love to stand up and look around and show everyone how tall and handsome I am. Mama tells me I'm nosy.

https://i.ibb.co/523PykS/20190908-120731.jpg

Mama found some nice female dogs in the neighborhood that I play with every night at the fenced in schoolyard. Most of us are around the same age so we love to run and chase each other. After we play I come home so tired and go to sleep. I have 2 female dobe friends named Luna and Coco. Whenever someone calls Coco mama looks up fast so I run over to kiss her. Luckily this Coco is red and not black like our Coco.

I have 2 different crates that I absolutely hate. I scream and cry when they put me in there. I have a big wire crate and they recently bought a used varikennel which I hate even more. What's funny though is that I can escape from both and they can't figure out how I do it. I will never tell mama and dad!!

I was a very bad boy the other day. Dad had to work overtime and I was lonely at home so I did some redecorating. I am still alive because mama and dad eventually just laughed and said they were going to tear that carpet up anyway but just not now.

Hope you are all doing well. Here's a kiss for you Lannie!! :x

Hey Sugar, tell your mama about this online workshop about crate training. Although it's geared towards people who help people train their dogs, anyone can take it. https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.co.../courses/24677 It might make everyone's lives easier.

melbrod 09-29-2019 12:00 AM

Boy, he looks like he's getting big! How big, I wonder??

Capri did a carpet remodel on my stairs too when she was about that age. Somehow she reached down through the kitchen railing to just barely get to the carpeting on the part that runs along the edge of the stair (the stringer??).

So we laughed (sorta) and said, oh well, we need to replace the carpeting on those stairs anyway. Maybe even change them to wood.

And guess what...here it is, I don't know, 10 years later...the chewed bit is still there.

Lannie 09-30-2019 10:33 AM

Oh, Sugar, you sweet thing, be patient, your tiny brain will get bigger in a few years. (I laughed out loud at that part!) You're such a good boy to take care of your second mama the way you do when she's sad. You might not have very many brain cells yet, but the ones you have are the love cells. Big hugs to you, handsome boy!

Second mama ;) I feel for you on the stairs thing. My boy Ninja pulled up all the vinyl in the kitchen of a rental house when he was young and impetuous. We had the same problem of crate escapes (how DO they do it?), so we shut Ninny in the kitchen while we were at work. There was a big heavy pocket door that locked, so he was secure there, however, one day he found a little burned spot on the floor in a corner, and started working on it, because really, what ELSE was there do do, right? By the time I got home from work, he'd pulled 90% of the floor up in big sheets and strips, OMG. I called my brother and told him to get over to the house right away, it was a matter of life and death, and he showed up 10 minutes before the ex got home. I knew the ex wouldn't actually MURDER Ninja if there was a witness, so my brother stayed for dinner, and by the time he left, we'd calmed down the ex to the point that he was just cussing, but no longer dangerous. ;) I mean, why couldn't Ninny have just chewed the table leg or something? Needless to say, we forfeited our security deposit when we moved out of there....

But Sugar. He's just SO much like my first boy, it makes my heart swell to see him. And it seems like his brain is about the same size, too, LOL! Ninny was three years old when he finally settled down and became a "good" boy. I despaired it would ever happen, but it did. Just took a while, that's all.

Oh Lannie I was roaring with laughter reading about the vinyl flooring coming up in sheets and strips while alternating in horror wondering what could come next here. For now dad has built a playpen of sorts at the front door in the hallway using those wonderful crates as barricades so that Sugar is only on the ceramic tile and can't do too much damage unless he learns how to open the front door lol.

Coco loved her crate and put herself to sleep in it. I do recall now some puppy antics that I had forgotten over time especially since I did find a small spot of the carpet that she chewed on when she was young. She was good and reliable once she was about 14 to 15 months so you forget about the hard times especially when you're still grieving your old good gal.

Funny enough I thought the universe was going to give me an easy puppy to help ease the loss of my gal. I got what I was supposed to because he is to teach me new lessons I had not learned with Coco. And he is definitely a heart healer.

Boy, ain't THAT the truth! Ninny was very sweet, too, but big and scary LOOKING. I remember once (in the same house as the ripped kitchen floor), a guy came to look at the furnace, which had stopped working. There was a foyer section right inside the front door, and to the right was a closet that housed the furnace, to the left was the living room and the rest of the house, and straight ahead was floor to ceiling glass, looking out on the back deck. I put Ninja outside while the furnace guy was there, but being right there in the foyer, and Ninja being just on the other side of that glass wall, they could see each other.

Furnace guy says, "MY, that's a big dog!"

Ninja jumps straight up, head almost touching the gutter, and back down again. Tiny brain thinking, "New person! Wanna PLAY!"

Furnace guy looks sideways at the glass wall, surely wondering if that dog could come through the glass or not.

Ninja jumps straight up again. And again. And again!

Furnace guy keeps working but cutting glances to his left to make sure that vicious man-eater was still on his own side of the glass wall. He wanted so badly to be done and out of there and I'm sure if he's still alive today, he tells his grandkids about the Amazing Flying Attack Dog that almost ate him one day back in 1985.

It was so hard for me not to laugh out loud, though. I did my best, because the guy was really scared, even though I TOLD him Ninny was harmless and just wanted to play. Somehow I don't think he believed me... ;)

Coco Loco 10-09-2019 08:29 PM

Hi guys. Sugar here. I've been busy lately. The weather has been weird. One day it was freezing out. Mama put Coco's coat on me to try it out. It felt a little weird and it's a little big on me but I was warm and toasty in it. Good thing I look good in purple!! Why waste a perfectly good coat and it matches all my hand me down purple collars I have. Mama says when I stop growing I will get my own special collar. It may be purple too since it's my colour:wink2:. An old granny said I look really sharp in purple because it looks good against my shiny black fur. I puffed up my chest for her.

Today was a stressful day. I somehow hurt my left back leg after dad went to work and mama came home. I couldn't get off my bed because it hurt too much. Mama was worried and started to cry because leg problems make her very upset :crying:. Mama called my vet and they offered to come help mama get me in the car. Dad was going to leave work. But since I'm such a good boy and mama helped me up, we got out of the house into the car. Once at the vet I was thrilled to see my doctor and the girls so I gave everyone kisses and they checked me out good. My vet knows that mama worries so much about our leg problems.

I have a soft muscle injury so I have to rest and take gabapentin for the next 3 days so I can recover. We were in luck that we have some of Coco's gabapentin leftover so I'm on that now. I'm so lucky that I had such a good big sister who left all of her things for me to have.

Night night DT.

Mama here...sleep well my sweet boy. I'm so glad you only pulled something in your leg and it's not more serious. I couldn't bear to think about something more serious.

There is more carpet that needs replaced >:)

You are right that there is more carpet to be replaced :x

And Doc you were so right about these boys being completely different than the girls!! That's why I was so worried yesterday when he wasnt his usual exuberant, bouncy self. I knew he was in a lot of pain. When you Google why a puppy can't stand it is the stuff of nightmares so mama just had to call the vet and get in to see the professionals.

I'm so thankful for the wonderful relationship with our vets office and the offer to come over and help me. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when he came walking into the office because he was upright and walking!!

spocksdad 10-10-2019 07:41 AM

Coco, hope Sugar gets well soon. That medicine sure seemed to knock him out good!

FYI- Your picture links in previous pages of this thread got broken after the 3/3 post so most after that not displaying? Did you move the images around on the hosting site, as this will cause a new location to be assigned to pics? It's ashamed, as this thread is so enjoyable to read with narration from Sugar and the great pics. :2smile:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few words to Sugar, from Spock:
:grin2:

Hey, DoberBro Sugar, you're a good boy for helping your Mama stay entertained and occupied so she doesn't dwell on the past and get teary eyed. You've also heeded my instruction from previous post and mastered the Dober Couch Lounging technique very well, grasshopper!

https://www.dobermantalk.com/puppy-c...ml#post4071979

Next, we'll move on to "Squirrel Detection & Chasing Techniques"
Prime directive is to put on a good show for your humans while chasing the rascally rodents, but don't hurt your legs while doing so! You've apparently got some more training to do in this area... :wink2:

Coco Loco 10-10-2019 08:40 AM

That's so strange SD because when I go back in the thread I can see pics on all the pages but your link doesn't. Maybe a glitch?

Sugar has paid attention to Spocks lessons and is becoming a proper doberboy. Just waiting for his brain to start growing!!

He has just noticed squirrels recently and barks ferociously at them to protect his family and property from those recent invaders. No chasing right now. He has to rest that leg so luckily the meds make him sleepy so his injury can heal.

spocksdad 10-10-2019 08:47 AM

Okay, I can see them all now, but up to an hour ago, when I last posted here, most were not displaying, just first page and last page of thread pics. Some temp server glitch? :2smile:

melbrod 10-10-2019 10:13 AM

Poor baby :wheelchair:

I wonder what shenanigans he was up to while you were at work?
Squirrels taunting him outside the windows?? :bounce8::bounce8::bounce8:

Get well soon, Sugar.

Lannie 10-10-2019 03:55 PM

Awww, my sweet Sugar baby, I'm sorry your leg is sore, but glad you're resting it. You always make me smile. :D

New Puppy

Hey All. Reading the post on the new puppy, Sugar. Congrats! So exciting. Wondering how many of you crate your new puppies at first. We have always done that. Do any of you let the puppy sleep with you right from the start?

Edited to add: Pamlocke, I started a new thread with your puppy crating question. You can find it here:

Anyone wanting to respond to that part, please go over there with your posts.

Coco Loco 11-05-2019 09:30 PM

Hey DT Sugar here. Sorry we've been away but we had a death in the family and we've been busy. It happened overseas and my auntie and uncles had to look after me while mama and dada dealt with things. I got properly spoiled while they looked after me. They were worried that I wouldn't eat my food so they all handfed me my raw food. Mama is still laughing about that because she doesn't do that for me. Mama said maybe my brain is starting to grow since I was able to manipulate them. I don't know what that means but I did miss mama while she was gone.

Prior to that I was playing with my friends and one of them bit me really hard at the bottom of my ear. It was so bad I had to get stitches. She's not my friend anymore. I've been in that blasted cone again so I couldn't scratch my ears. I also ripped part of my paw pad off and want to lick the rest of it off.

Mama says boys are so different than girls. Coco never did any of this stuff!! I can't help it. My brain hasn't grown yet. One day I will be the best boy. Mama says I try my best.

I love to play with mine and Coco's toys but I'm pretty rough with them. You know how well I did practicing my skills on the carpet removal :wink2:. Mama has ordered me a Bullymake box so we shall see how their guarantee holds up for destroyed toys. It has landed in Canada so I hope it gets here soon. I'm so excited for new toys!!

Uncle Doc asked for some pics but we only have a few to show since we've been so busy.

https://i.ibb.co/XkCGBjg/20191005-183203.jpg

I love my handmedown coat. It keeps me warm. I'm too busy exploring when I'm out for mama to get a good pic.

https://i.ibb.co/B2nfQMX/20191103-111834.jpg

The blasted cone!! But it's so much bigger now!!

Talk to you soon. I've got to get ready for bed. Good night DT.

melbrod 11-05-2019 09:48 PM

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about your Lose Coco

Just sat here and read Sugars post to the Mrs. ! She was laughing pretty good !

The part about --- She's not my friend any more was great - I will laugh about that one all day

Serious note -- Kasia use to chew her pads and lick the rest off Like Sugar = Trip to Vets to get her a steriod shot - Doc said it was from Allergies ! Once she got the shot - she was good to go . The shot would last a month .

Thanks Sugar for your post - Always enjoy reading them so much ! Makes Doc's day :wink2::grin2:

Lannie 11-06-2019 08:34 AM

Oh, Sugar, I have been missing you! I'm so sorry your mom and dad were sad and had to go away for a while, but it sounds like you had fun anyway. Manipulation is a very valuable skill, and I'm glad you're learning it at such an early age. :) You will be a Force of Nature before you know it! I'm very sorry you have to wear the cone again, but it'll come off soon, I promise. You have to be a good boy, though. ;) Oh, and by the way, nice butt!

I've never heard of a Bullymake box, but I can gather by the name that it must be something supposedly indestructible? I remember going to a pet supply store once when Ninja was young, trying to find a toy he couldn't destroy in 24 hours. He got bored with the Nylabones, and Kong hadn't come out yet (or I hadn't heard of them). His favorite toy was one of those rope things with the knots on both ends, but he destroyed every one I got him in hours, literally hours. So anyway, this nice young man told me that THIS rope (two or three times bigger than the standard ones) was guaranteed unchewable, and that if Ninja COULD destroy it they'd give me my $12 back. (Back then, that was a lot for a chew toy.) So I got it and took it home. The next day, I brought a paper bag full of strings back to the pet store, and got my $12 back. It took him all night, but he did succeed in completely disassembling that indestructible knot toy.

I finally just got him a selection of different sized Nylabone toys and that was that. Funny story on the side: His very favorite Nylabone lasted forever (I still have the lump of chewed whatever-that-stuff-is) and by the time he was 10 or 11 it was down to the size of maybe half a hotdog, but man, he loved to chew on that. One night I was on the couch watching TV after dinner with a glass of milk on the end table, Ninny was lying on the floor by my feet gnawing that piece of yummy Nylabone, and he flipped it into the air. I watched it in slow motion, unable to react, just watching it arc through the air, bits of slobber flying off (also in slow motion), tumbling over and over, until it landed SQUARELY in my glass of milk, lengthwise, never even TOUCHING the sides of the glass. It was a perfect "10!" The look on his face was priceless - "WHERE IS MY BONE??" but the look on mine might have been better. I'm not sure.

I know that's a gross story (yes, I did go get a fresh glass of milk), but I sincerely hope that Sugar gives you as many fond and silly memories as Ninja gave me. Kiss his boo-boo for me, and tell him I love him. :)

ECIN 11-06-2019 08:41 AM

(yes, I did go get a fresh glass of milk)

I very - Very Disappointed reading that statement Lannie ! I thought you were one of them true wild west gals ! I thought for sure that you grabbed the glass of milk and killed it , then handed over the rest of the bone to Ninny :grin2::grin2:

Coco Loco 11-06-2019 08:53 AM

Good morning. Mama here. I'm so glad Sugar's antics bring a smile to you Lannie and Doc. He brings smiles to mine and also sometimes frustration lol but I can see that his brain is really working and trying to do the right thing. I always tell him "just try my boy".

I will tell you a secret. I was afraid to love him at first. I most definitely liked him but I felt kind of guilty about loving him. I'm still grieving Coco and Tiki too. But I had a revelation that Sugar has big shoes to fill because Coco was my heart. It's not fair for me to have these expectations of him because although his body is big, he is still all puppy. Coco was the best girl but she also was mischievous as a puppy but you forget these things when they are adult dogs and so well behaved.

I absolutely love Sugar and tell him all the time now. He wags his little nub and kisses mamas cheek. I wanted to share that with you guys because it's been a pivotal part of my grieving and moving through the process.

I will definitely kiss Sugar and tell him Aunt Lannie loves him!

Kisha Reinmiller 11-06-2019 08:56 AM

Aw! What a cutie! ....I love when they're little cone heads. I have never had a cropped dobe myself but I look forward to see your handsome little boy grow it :grin2:

Because I am nosy that way!

I need your address so I can send you a puppy warming gift.

OMG, what HAPPENED? This was a week ago and I didn't see it! No forum notification for some reason. Boo!

Anyway, no I did NOT slug back that slobbery milk. That remnant of bone had been all over the house, outside, under the stove... uh-uh, I have my principles, and although I loved that boy with all my heart and would literally do anything for him, slobber-drinking was not in my plan. ;)

Second-mama, I'm so glad you decided to open your heart to this sweet boy. He deserves all your love, although I can understand your initial reservations. You feel like you're cheating. I had the same problem when I lost Ninja. We buried him in his favorite blankie and I sank into a deep depression for several weeks. The house was SO empty. Then I started thinking I needed another Dobe, but I felt guilty about it. One morning I woke up and found a clump of fuzz from Ninny's green blanket on the floor outside the bedroom door, and I burst into tears (where the hell did THAT come from?). Rich told me it was Ninny telling me it was OK to love another dog, and that I should love the new dog as much as I loved him. (Rich is wise.) Anyway, that night I had a dream that I had found a puppy, little black and rust like Ninny, and his name was Thor. A week later, when I finally got up the courage to contact the local Doberman rescue, they had a two-year old male named Thor. It was meant to be. :D

ECIN 11-13-2019 08:48 AM

Hey Sugar ! How you Do 'n' ???

Great story Lannie - we have also had them type feelings before :wink2:

Coco Loco 11-13-2019 07:10 PM

Oh Lannie that is a beautiful story. They surely do give us signs from the other side.

Coco had a planet dog glow in the dark ball. It had an orange raised rubber world on it that when she was a puppy she meticulously peeled every part of that orange rubber world off and spit out. Then she never played with that thing again. That was about 9 years ago.

I forgot all about that ball until Sugar found it somewhere in this house a few months ago and proudly pranced around the house with it in his mouth. I gasped when I saw it and said 'oh Coco'. When I said her name Sugar looked up to the top of the stairs to one of her spots and wagged his nub. I know hes seen her because he always does that if I say her name. Hopefully one day he will listen to her guidance when his brain grows. :grin2:

Our great love for them doesn't end when they leave us, it just changes. I'm working through this and cannot believe that next month on the 21st is 1 year Coco left us and the 31st is Sugar's 1st birthday!

Lannie 11-14-2019 08:39 AM

I'm pretty sure he can see (or feel) her there, and she WILL help him. I have another story I wanted to tell if you don't mind me doing it here on Sugar's thread. I had a picture (a big 8x10) of Ninja on the wall in the bedroom, and Thor and I used to go into the bedroom in the evenings and watch TV. He loved to chase the two cats we had at the time, so we'd retire early in the evening and watch the boob tube while the cats had a few hours of freedom to roam the rest of the house. Anyway, one night, Thor looked up at Ninny's picture and then turned and looked at me with a huge question on his face. I said, "That's Ninny, he was here before," and Thor said, "Woo," in the low whisper they do, and looked back at the picture. I didn't think dogs could recognize another of their own breed, and I'd never had a dog that paid attention to a picture like that before.

But any time, ANY time, Rich or I said "Ninny," Thor would race to the bedroom and sit and look up at that picture of Ninja on the wall. It was the damnedest thing. I'm thinking maybe there's a little of that in your sweet Sugar-boy. It's almost spooky, but in a good way, huh? :)

Coco Loco 11-14-2019 09:20 AM

Keep the stories coming Lannie. I love them. That's amazing that Thor knew where Ninny was.

I think dogs are such pure little perfect creatures that are much more in tune with things than we are. I'm pretty perceptive and I feel Coco in the house all the time. Or hear her jump off the bed and flick her ears. The other night I heard Tiki singing the song of her people as she loved to do when she was with us. Sugar heard it too and ran around the house looking for her. Our love never dies in this house!! :grin2:

Its interesting that you called him Sugar boy because I call him that all the time. Or Suggie boy.

We have had snow for the last 3 days. The first night he wasn't sure of it. I put his coat on him and ran around in the backyard because at first he didn't seem to realize we could walk on the snow. Then I made the mistake of teaching him that he can eat snow. What do you think he was doing at 4am today after he had his pee?! Eating snow and running around as the snow fell on him lol. Suggie is a silly boy!

Lannie 11-15-2019 08:18 AM

Yes, dogs are special. :) They can read us better than we can ourselves sometimes, and even though they might not speak English, they can communicate very clearly if you know what to look for.

Our male Pyr sings the song of his people, every morning before sunrise. It's become such an expected sound to me, I can't imagine the silence when he finally leaves me. Well, that day is not today, and for that I'm grateful.

I wish they could all live forever.

I wish they could too Lannie. They only get to stay for a short time with us but the impact they have on our lives is truly incredible. A beautiful gift. Before I get too melancholy Sugar has something to say.

Hi DT! Its Suggie boy. I love the snow in the backyard now and want to stay out there and eat it all. Mama makes me come in because I don't have my coat on.

I got my bullymake box. I was so excited while mama opened it. I couldn't believe I got my own package in the mail! I haven't destroyed anything yet!! My favorite toy is the purple zombie head. We know purple is my colour!! They were supposed to send me an extra toy for our long wait but they forgot so they have sent that in the mail for me. Another package!!

Oh, Sugar-boy, you ARE darling! I'm glad your Mama got your whole head in that one picture and not just one nostril. ;) But I see your dad can get you to settle down for snuggles, at least for a little bit.

Don't worry, sweet boy, your brain will grow. You have a couple more years to wait, but it will happen. Meanwhile, just be yourself and make your Mama and Daddy smile every day. That's your job right now. Serious things can wait until later. Right now it looks like you have lots of new toys to play with! I wish I could come and play with you and your cool new toys, but I can't, so tell your Mama to give you a good ear-knuckling and head noogies from your Auntie Lannie! :grin2:

Good morning DT. Sugar here. I'm having a lazy Sunday morning. I was cuddling with mama on the couch but then moved to my side. Mama said I look like an angel. I love that.

My birthday is next month and I turn 1. Am I still a puppy then? My brain still needs to grow so I think I still will be. Mama said I will always be her baby. I kissed her when she said that.

Mama: Suggie boy you are my big little boy and I see that little brain trying so hard to do the right things. Keep trying my boy that's all you need to do for now. :x

Dobe puppies are only angels when they're asleep, but they make up for it by being VERY GOOD angels then.

Hard to believe that he's almost one. I had two that were born in mid-December. It's a good month for birthdays.

I have to disagree Mel - There angels all the times - lol Even the times they -- they ?? test us ? screw up some - because that's what memories are made of - When one of ours goofed up some - then 5 minutes later we would be sitting there laughing our rear ends off .

Now sitting here looking at Sugar laying there - I think his name fits him to a T :grin2::grin2::grin2: I never see him doing anything wrong :grin2::grin2::grin2::grin2:

In case you have forgotten Doc please refer back in this thread to see his carpet removal skills. He may have been a little less angelic that day!! Perhaps only a tad. :grin2:
