Thanks! Only winners dog and winners bitch get championship points at a show. To finish a championship a dog needs 15 points total with 2 of the wins being majors, which are 3-5 points. This explains it better I'm sure

My computer is trying to make me crazy (and this is day 3 of craziness) so I haven't answered your last pm.

However, congrats on the RWD to a 4 point major--that's nothing to sneeze at. Who was the judge?

I have very partial results from Enumclaw--a specialty judged by Mimi Brown from 8/16--I was looking to see if Hugo's brother did anything. He did not go WD or RWD or Best Puppy and I'm not sure Sweeps were offered but I think that he may not have been there. Cathy Ceely shows him for Mike and Rene and sometimes she can't get time off for weekday Specialties. I haven't looked to see if anything is posted on the show super site yet--too soon or it to show up on AKC.

Thanks! It was under Ruth Zimmerman. Luke, the black puppy out your way, went RWD at one of the Enumclaw shows. I'm not sure if he did anything today though.

Debbie Sternberg who is sending this stuff to me probably isn't even home from the show yet today but I did finally manage to open the results from the 17th (I think)...Judge was Hector Farias WD was a Foxfire dog whose dam is Jewelia (same as John's McCoy) different sire. That was a 5 point major and Luke went RWD and Best Puppy. So Hugo's litter is doing very well--Hugo and Luke have both taken Reserves to big majors and their litter sister picked up a major (4 points I believe) a couple of weeks ago.

Congratulations--da' reddog is doing alright for himself.

Thanks!

Journi, Lindsay's puppy, has a 4pt major and 2 more points from a show in Greenville, SC. Someone broke the major at that show and it didn't cross over from dogs. There are two more bitches from the litter showing in NC/SC which makes 8 out of the 11 showing or soon to be showing. I am very happy with how my boy is doing in the ring and maturing.

Congrats on your good training! He’s awesome! What sports are you gonna do with him? That boy needs a JOB! Although I forget that it’s sometimes easier with multiple dogs because they wear each other out. How are all the dynamics in the pack?

Trish, Come see us in Raleigh in 2 weeks! I have been training him in nosework and I know he will be excellent at it like Kira. I have not shown her a lot but have gotten a SCN and 2 legs/ placements in interior searches (1st place in an interior novice search 2 weekends ago). As you know it's a ton of fun and so rewarding to get the compliments about your teamwork!

Hugo will be a natural in cat/fast cat as well. Obedience is NOT my thing at all so I'm not going to go down that road with him.

They do great as a pack, he and Zeus especially, but this puppy does need a lot of 1 on 1 too!

He’s so handsome, love his gorgeous bone. Sorry I missed getting to Raleigh, darn it.

I bet you, like me, made sure you have a rain slicker in addition to batteries for Hurricane Florence survival! With the likelihood of the storm stalling out for days and from past hurricane experience we know that Doberman owners face a unique challenge. There’s no way a Doberman is going out in torrential rain and high winds if the human doesn’t go too.

I'm glad I have one that will go in the rain on his own (Zeus) but I will be getting soaked for the other two. I have some ear post hats and plenty of towels ready to lay down by the door! LOL

One of the criteria for an up and coming show prospect is if he can regularly win his puppy classes and go reserve--going reserve to majors is a big deal.

He isn't even 9 months yet is he? There are lots of judges who won't put up puppies on general principal and even more that won't even consider them for reserve. He's doing very well for his age.

He'll be in Futurity? Which class--I'd go back and look at his birthdate but I came home only to pick up a dog food delivery since the dogs I'm dog and house sitting for are about to run out of food.

Good luck in owner handler and all the classes Carmen will be showing him in.

Be a good boy Hugo and show everyone how red dogs can show!

Thank you for wishing us luck. I don't like to make excuses but the shows where "nothing happened" were judged by new or political judges that made some interesting picks. There are a few shows after the national with favorable judges so that should make up for it!

I know he's doing really well in the ring and I'm excited and hoping that he may place in his class in one of the 5 shows in Chicago. He is entered in the futurity/6-9 classes for everything. Funny you ask about his age though because he will be 9 months Oct. 12 (the last day of the National) which seems like good luck to me!

LOL, I asked because the regulation for multiday shows, like specialties about exactly how you determine which class to put them in are fairly complex and I remembered that he was sort of on the cusp for eligibity for the National classes (or at least I thought he was).

I've been very lucky with some of my puppies at the National--I fought tooth and nail with Michelle Santana about sending one of mine to the National (it was in Minnesota that year) didn't want to do it she leaned on my breeder (the sire of the litter was one of her dogs) so the breeder took him back and Michelle showed him in Futurity in 6-9 Black Puppy Dogs and went 1st in a class of 31 and in regular 6-9 Black Puppy Dog which had an even bigger entry and went first in that class too.

But even a class win at either the National or the regional is a big deal and 6-9 classes are always big.

Toad did well at his National. Went first in all of his 9-12 classes except for the class that a breeder judge, Jane Kay (KayHills kennels) judged. We would have never entered him under Jane since it was common knowledge that she firmly believed that Dobermans came in only two colors Black and Red and there was no way she was going to consider a fawn. But he was there and so we put him in--she was being loud at the ring entrance and saying "Where are my red dogs?" and ignoring Michelle who was standing in the ring entrence waiting to go in--Michelle said "If you get out of the way I'll bring your fawn dog in now..." He went third in the class.

Mostly you and Hugo should have lots of fun--Nationals are pretty amazing experiences.

I was a little confused about it as well. Every one I talked with said class ages go off the date of the first day of the show. Four or five puppy bitches from his litter will show on the 12th and they will actually be 9 months on the dot but are still in the 6-9 class. I'm just glad I have a red puppy dog and not a black puppy bitch for the entry numbers.

I hope to have some success! Maybe a few of his 1/2 siblings (by Bravo) will be there as well.

Hugo showed well at the regional and national, placements in everything. He is going through some funky puppy stuff now but hopefully time will fix some of that.

Here he is at 9 mos.

Cressrb and ECIN like this.
