Congrats to you. I feel your joy as we too got our second pup - Morse - nearly 13 weeks now. I love the name you've chosen! Enjoy your pup and hold on to your hat for some hard work - totally worth it though!!

How did you make enough money in a month to afford a dobe puppy!? Please share the secret, because I'm looking at saving up around $2000 (pup price & initial expenses) and budgeting my household bills and income puts me at having enough in just under a year, and that's without any emergencies inbetween!

Every Dobe deserves a good home and a happy life, hope your pup has just that

( the name confused me, btw. Chaos was the 'night sky' or Gaia's mate or sire, depending on which culture you look to. lol)

well i know this will piss a lot of people off but i got her from a nice old couple (back yard breeder) she cost $300 but for me that was a lot of money, seeing as how i;m just a high school kid with no job. i sold all my snakes and lizards to afford her.

i know how most people feel about back yard breeders but i say she is a dobie right? why not give her the bet home anyway regardless of how she was brought into this world....

Oh well, she is just as much a dobie to me as all the beautiful show dogs out there and thats what matters to me, not what others think about her but how i feel about her. lol

Raising a Doberman puppy is a huge responsibility. I hope you take it seriously. If there is a 4-H dog program in your area, I would highly recommend getting involved in that. Please be responsible and make sure she has good vet care, get her spayed, into training and love and treasure her.

You really think that a HS kid with no job is the best possible home? I'm sorry, but I have hard time believing that. How are you going to pay her medical bills and vet expenses. My puppy shots, worming, vet appt. ALONE cost more than that.
I really hope you have HER best interests at heart, and NOT yours. It's not about you, it's about the dog. It sounds like you made a careless, impulse PURCHASE without taking anything to heart. What happens when you want something else new...sell her like you did her lizards? I really hope you prove me and everyone else on this board WRONG!

It's not really a matter of anyone thinking badly on your new pup hon, it's a matter of enabling and encouraging backyard breeding that does not focus on the serious health issues of the breed. By purchasing from a back yard breeder, it feeds into their pocketbook and encourages them to keep breeding into an already overpopulated world full of dogs.

It takes a home away from a rescued dog.

Not to say that purchasing from a breeder is bad, but it the type of breeder you chose to purchase from.

Are you prepared to have your pup drop dead from DCM at 3 years old? Not in a million years would I ever want her too, however, I'd bet the shirt off my back that your back yard breeder doesn't know a thing about the health line of the pedigree. Nor did they holter test their dogs to know their current status.

That is the problem with back yard breeders. They are in it to make a buck. Sure most love their cute little puppies, but they don't have a clue what they are doing to the health and temperment of this breed.

Are you prepared for all the financial responsibility a puppy brings? Or do you have help in that department at least? You are safely looking at several hundreds of dollars in just the first 6 months, barring any unforeseen problems. (and we all know about Murphy's Law right?)

Best of luck with your puppy.

Then why not rescue instead of supporting a byber??

Since you are a high school student with no job, I sincerely hope you have guidance and financial support to raise this pup to not be another statistic.

thanks, the truth is i didn't even think about a rescue. it didn't even cross my mind, i am bad about getting tunnel vision, i knew i wanted another doberman, i knew i wanted a puppy that i could raze and teach myself. that's what i was thinking when i got online and found her.

a lot of people are going to bitch me out for saying that lol but im not here to lie to everyone its true i never stopped to think about the rescues or the dogs on the street.

Well... that's the thing hon, no one can know what to expect. People that go to a breeder that studies their pedigrees for health defects and is diligent about their breeding choices and options, well, their puppy buyers have a little more clue then anyone else that purchases from a different channel.

This is a living animal, anything can go wrong, anything can happen. Especially without any knowledge of inherent health issues in the line.

robinb gave some great suggestions, find a obedience class and have some fun while training your girl.

I know :-) It's really easy for that to happen! We get so focused on what we want!

I know I'm guilty of tunnel vision on several accounts!

We're happy to have you here, this a great resource for everyone, but I think it is especially great for new pup owners :-)

If you have any training or health questions, be sure to check with us, there will always be folks here to help out.

I know I still find new info constantly online!

I never said you were retarded, and find it completely disrespectful you would use the word in that manner. I hope for your sake you learn some respect, because Mommy and Daddy might be there for your dog, but they can't be there to protect you your whole life.

robinb gave some great suggestions, find a obedience class and have some fun while training your girl.
ya, i went to the obedience classes with my other dobei when she was old enough and it was a lot work and a lot of fun and i was amazed how much it really helped. i plan to do the same with this little girl.

I agree with you on the breeder cuz. Etc Ramses?

See people, my first dobe I looked around and found a byb that had well bred pups. Beautiful color and temperment. The female was the best dog I ever had. I paid 200.

Second dobe, I bought from a reputable, registered breeder. He turned out to be a menace. Destructive, agressive, whines or barks at all times, and just visably badly bred. She sold her pups for 1500.

Lastly, my third pup I bought from another byb for 300. He is the smartest, sweetest and best color/build of them all.

The best dogs don't come from any peticular overpriced breeder. It's always a gamble and the price you pay doesn't improve the odds.

So you sold other animals to afford a different one? What happens when you want a different breed or animal, or something else. Gonna sell your pup?

You made the 10 year + commitement to her now; in time, money and energy.

There are three kinds of people: those who can count and those who can't.
