It was the same for me when I started. But slowly over time I promised to learn and look where I am today. I didn't get offended at what anyone said to me. I took it all in as a another day at school (of the Dobermans). It's too bad the kid is letting us get on her nerves. If she ain't wanna learn, then she don't have to.

But our purpose is to share our knowledge and to help dogs in rescues first and then from breeders right? At least I think so lol

I respect you VDL, but I do disagree with you on this statement. The poor was given a chance to herself before and she let it go, being she knew BYBs were not right...

oooh, btw I too was a kid when I got Kleo. But I took 100% responsibility for her actions and my actions. With time and willingless to learn and stay calm, I matured into a Doberman loving freak, and still doing the same thing after she and I departed ways. You can learn with a dog, with a dog and after the dog leaves you.

Coming on here swearing at someone or something doesn't help the cause. It shows the people how ignorant, and unwilling you are to learn the adequate ways of keeping a dog.

I had people saying things I didn't wanna hear. But I stuck with it. Took my chances. Now some of those people respect me and I respect them. Hopefully you will come to senses and know that we are not hating on you, we are just looking out for the dog as there are (dunno the figure actually) probably 3-4 million in each State across the US and Canada.

Learn to respect yourself first, then the puppy and then people whom you can learn TONS of things.

Good bye.

I went on what I knew (which I thought was a really good amount at the time) and what my vet told me. There is more out there now then there was then but I had no reason to go looking for it. In my mind dogs were a done deal and it is not like the way technology is always changing up and such. I was wrong but hey I did not know. I am willing to learn new things, obviously I am here so.... You know... I stumbled onto DT out of shear curiosity and then I learned things that i had not even thought of or read prior.
same here,i did alot of research, been readng lots and lots about dobermans and did the same like Kstep.after i got Apollo,i surfed around the internet and somehow came across here and now i found out about what you guys call a BYB,never heard something like this before.BYB were a complete different thing for me(was for me like puppy mills),then what you discripe(sp) most what Kstep wrote its very similiar to me,but i'm very openminded and learn new things all the time, but still would be a rough to newbies ROFL

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Some people can't afford to pay 2k for a dog. I'm 20, going to school to be a vet, and don't have much money. But I have a doberman. He must be so neglected because I'm not financially stable, huh? Ohhhh poor dog.

The fact that you ignorant xxxxxxxx on here would talk **** to a kid in high school for BUYING HER OWN DOG, is beyond me. I think alot of you are just bored and spiteful.

so what are you going to do when you have a $1400 vet bill? No post said that the dog would be neglected.

Well, I read some of the posts and please allow me to say:

1. Congratulations on the new Dobie!

2. Really sorry you didn't think RESCUE - please do for the future and tell others to do the same. We currently have two rescues in our home and we could not have found better dogs.

3. The point about BYBer's is really true and they are not good for the breed or too often, for the dogs themselves and their humans.

4. Youth is enthusiasm and we here on DT shouldn't be so darn hard on this young person's enthusiasm. Don't sour the joy of having a new Dobie, even if it is from a BYB - at least it has a home with someone who cares.

Good luck to you and your new pup!

Oh well. At least we are knowledge and willing to take 100% action of our dogs, ignorant *******s talking **** to a kid in high school.

Where the eff were you when I signed up, lol. Would've saved me some negative talking? Go help someone in real life if you want to stick up for people.

I hear what ya gotta say. But even though it's been said over and over and over again, I'll say it again. We do not help the dogs/puppies already in rescue by helping fund the BYBs. The dogs in shelters need us more than some knowledge lacking BYB.

And please, don't even start with me saying that the BYB could be more knowledgeable than anyone on this forum, because someone with knowledge would not breed their stud/bitch knowing there are millions of dogs needing a home and save from the hands of death.

I dunno what I've gotten into myself by even being involved in this thread loool :p

KEstep, i wasn't trying to insult you about your comment, the fact is that you didnt know, now have learned, and Im assuming would buy from a better breeder next time.

This is a little different, they stated that they KNEW it wasn't the best idea, and STILL did it.... I see that as different.

For instance, I don't think that people on here with BYB dogs, like VDL and KEstep are ANY less worthy of being members, nor do their dogs deserve anything but the best of everything. What I don't like is people who are not even WILLING to learn.

Then rescue. Don't support breeders that are pumping out nothing but pet quality dogs because they can without a care in the world for anything but money in their pocket when thousands of dogs a year are waiting behind metal bars, deserving of loving, caring homes, or being put to death.

Honestly. I don't care how old you are. I also don't care what you're doing in school. This isn't an age/social status/race/sex/education level issue, its a responsibility issue.

As I said previously, if she bought this dog, was working to pay for it and doing her best by it, prepared for emergencies, had given it forethought... I might have some respect. but no. it was a spur of the moment, tunnel vision decision.. and now "mommy and daddy" are going to be left with the bills. That isn't responsibility.

You are jumping to conclusions and I am going to go out on a limb and say right now, you lack social skills to ever become a vet.

Actually, I should say you lack the social skills needed to be a successful vet. You can pass all the tests, but then you have to relate to people in a professional manner. Good luck with that.

By assuming that a dog won't be properly cared for if owned a teenager in High School. I lack social skills? I'm not the one bashing a young kid for getting a dog, just because it was from a backyard breeder.

ok besides that everything its said here already,no matter it was good or bad.i get the feeling that most of you are very close troop and stick together like hell and not really give someone new a chance on here,i been around awhile and thaks goodness i always been on the safe side so far and nobody stomped on me yet.but it seems its like in school when you have the nersd, and the popular kids and the outsider and the popular kids were always on top and never gave someone else really a chance to join, most of you like those highschool kids
i like the forum, because there its lot to read and i get once or twice good ideas and tips, but most of the time,i justr ead, because i'm not a popular kid.ROFL and i don't care,i take out of this forum what i need, but since i don't have that"superdobe"but still be a very responsible dog and petowner,i never just will come close to the popular ones, but sure i met already some very very nice people on here<you know who you are, hint hint and thanks god for PM's and emails i can stay in touch with them without always have to post in public, because that might would give bad blood again and most of you really make us with the not highdecorated dobe's feel worthless,if you do it out of purpose or not.thats my own opinon and i'm glad i learned over the years here in the states to bite my tongue most of the time, but sometimes ikts really hard on here.but one more thing,we have people here what can jump on everything and everybody and thats ok,but if someone maybe replies to it and its not in the manor they think it should be,oh well, the fight started and they get blogged or send into the doghouse or whatever happens to them,so now enuf said

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

Then they should rescue one if they want a dog so badly, or save until they can afford a dog from a reputable breeder if they insist on buying a puppy.

I'm 20, going to school to be a vet...
Oh really? Not sure how it works in your state... but in Canada, you can't even APPLY for vet school until then end of your 2nd year of post secondary, after wading through first year calculus, chemistry, biology, physics and English, then 2nd year cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, and organic chemistry. I imagine that it works much the same way in the US. You've accomplished all that at 20 years of age, AND have been accepted to an approved college of veterinary medicine? You must be quite the phenom....

But I have a doberman. He must be so neglected because I'm not financially stable, huh? Ohhhh poor dog.
My boy is 15 months old now. I've had him for just over 13 months. So far his food has cost $1000, his routine vet visits have cost $500, his training has cost roughly $300, and other misc. expenses (crates, toys, dog beds etc.) put me well over $2000 for the year I've owned him. Just curious how you afford all that "normal/routine" care for your Doberman, at 20 years old, in vet school and without much money?

same town, similar join up dates, defensiveness of a similar incorrect mentality..I'm guessing nerdbynight and op are good friends irl.

In the USA vet school works the same way, you go for it as a postgrad degree, I have seen a few fast track degrees available, where you start in the 3rd year of your undergrad, but they aren't exactly from top universities in the USA.

Nobody is "bashing a high school kid for getting a dog". What is upsetting is, having read enough here to know that most people on the forum don't support back yard breeders (and why!), said high schooler came on posting a big "neener, neener, neener" and is completely unwilling to listen and learn from people who are in a position to teach her what they have taken decades to learn.

I am not assuming for a minute that the dog will not be taken care of. I am sure that Mom and Dad will do a fabulous job. But having been the mother of two high schoolers and a son soon to start middle school - I can tell you that at some point, in the not too distant future, the OP's life is going to get very busy - studying to get into college and hanging out with friends - and the dog is going to get left in the dust.

Stop arguing and bitching and take a minute and READ. You have great resources here that, if tapped, can teach you a lot.

"Megs" Maybe she didn't want to rescue and adult dog because she wanted a puppy, as I did. Also, I never said I was ALREADY A VET, I said I was going to school. Meaning that's my major. And, I pay for my dogs care just fine obviously. You're one of those bored housewives with a computer, aren't you?

And yeah, Kierdon is my cousin. I've been there for the lifespan of her first dobe, and now the puppy which is why I defend her in saying that she takes care of her dogs. And why I defend the backyard breeder dogs. They are wonderful, sweet dogs that are just as good as your 2k dobies.

I also defend her in saying that no, when she gets older the dog won't be left in the dust. She's in high school already and spends most of her time with her dogs and just has never been the person to do that anyway. Me, I'm in college and I have my own friends, doesn't mean my dog is left in the dust.
