Puppy hips

Ok. So I counted and Aries is 10 weeks old. I am a probably just being paranoid but do young puppies just have loose hips? When Aries sits he rolls back and are wide open (I have been calling it baby man spread lol). I tried to get a pic of it but he has the attention span of a gnat. Lol

That does not look normal to me. My pups hips were always tucked tightly and never splayed to either side. He has never laid like a 'frog' either (on the belly with legs out behind him).

We're the parents hips tested? What are the results? Any other pups in the litter have this issue?

I'd def ask your vet. They look... wrong. I don't know what it could be but if it is something it's best to catch is ASAP while they are young and growing. It could totally be nothing too!

Some puppies do seem "looser" than others. My GSD has always had a sloppy sit (something we've worked on with puppy push-ups and using a platform), and will still sometimes sit with her stifles flapping in the breeze. However, I do second bigfootlives recommendation of talking to your vet about it.

We have an appointment in a couple weeks for his 12 week checkb up so I will ask her when we go in then.

As for hip testing no... long and short of his story a surprise breeding between two neighbors papa made it over the wood privacy fence when no one was looking. Mamma is currently recovering from her spay now that all the puppies have found homes. His one litter bother sat the same way when I last saw him but that was 3 weeks ago when I picked aries up. Wasn't as concerned then but now it is better but still kinda out there... I will definitely ask the vet see now you got me scared

Also sit to stand, as well as stand to down.

When I first start obed classes with Emily, there was a golden retriever that sat back on her haunches (sp). I mentioned it to the instructor. We all became good friends. But they started doing acupuncture and chiropractic work on her early. I truly thought there was something wrong in her back. Years later, they did find out she was off in her back (Xrays, MRI) It put an end to a very successful obed career. She could not do jumps. She got almost to a UD but she just quit working for her owner. Too much pain.

Piper does it some, sometimes, but I don't think she winged out quite that much. It's hard to say though. It is like they start sitting into a nice sit but then in their exuberance roll back so they can look further up at you or something? That was what she would do, especially on her bed where there is a bolster in the back to support her back and soft underneath for her bony little butt. She definitely wings out a lot less now then she use to. I second the opinion of talking to your vet, but wanted to say some degree is probably normal. Emily use to do the funny sit sometimes too, but she was always tucked closer on the legs, but we didn't get her until she was 6+months.

Leo still winds up too far back on her butt, at times. She also has trouble with "sit pretty" or as we call it, "beg".

Just home from the vet. Our boy weighs 17 lbs (that is a 10# increase in the last month) has a little staph infection in both his floppy ears but is in great shape. I asked the doc about the hips but as we are seeing less of the "winging out" she wants to just keep an eye on it. We also have a dew claw that didn't get all the way removed so we will also be watching that to see if the nail regrows.

Right now though he is passed out in the passenger seat cause this vet thing takes a lot out of a little guy.
