New Sypha photos

The little jumping bean (mostly) cooperated for a photo shoot today while we aired out her ears...

I'd be a fool to try and compete with Meadowcat using a camera!

And besides it's not a competition - but if you'd rather not see pictures of cute puppies, well then you're just a party pooper!

LOL... Yeah, MC definitely has a good eye. (we have produced professional photo shoots for over 25 years).

BTW. I've been called a lot of things in my life. Most wouldn't be appropriate on an open forum."Party Pooper" has never been one of them!

That's really, really flattering...for real. Thank you. I do delete a lot of failures! But it sure helps to have good looking subjects!

She is into everything! She is VERY full of herself...in her mind there's nothing she can't do, so why not try??? Ha! She's in puppy foundations for agility. She's working on manners, some of it sticks She actually has a quite lovely little heel, which is unintentional...we're just working loose leash walking, but she naturally has a pretty nice heel if it's a low distraction environment. High distraction, of course, and it's out the window, because she's a baby! Her big downfall is she LOVES to jump, so we are working on that...she jumped up into my face as I was bending over yesterday and my teeth cut the inside of my lip...sigh. Puppies But she's also SO snuggly and sweet she is easily forgiven.

All legs...ears are not done, but they are coming along nicely! Baby is still definitely in the brain!

Does a harness help at all with learning to walk with a loose leash? I was thinking a front D-ring might be worth a try. Right now I take a step then have to wait for a minute while little bit pulls. I'm not too worried about me but I don't necessarily like all that pressure of her neck. Did you use a buckle or martingale collar with Sypha to teach the fundamentals of loose leash?

Lots of people do use a harness with a front D-ring (Sypha's has one - the Ruffwear front range harness)...I'm actually not using the front D-ring and I use either her harness or her collar. What I actually am finding is working super great for her is using a food tube from a camping store filled with canned food so that I can deliver a lot of rewards easily, and it's very high value rewards. It also makes it easy to deliver the reward in the place I want because I can just drop my arm down next to her and squeeze slightly and she can lick just a tiny amount of food off the end of the tube. You can either click for position or not, depending...I'm not clicking because I may eventually do some actual obedience and I only want to click for the precise spot I'd want her in, so I'm just rewarding frequently but randomly in the general area of right next to my leg. If she drifts I say "oops" (my no-reward marker) and I stop (so, the "be a tree" method), and I either wait for her to come back to position, or I might call her back to me with a recall practice and restart her. Make sense? The food tube is what makes it really, really easy to deliver fast rewards so easily and you get a nice high rate of reward. We started out with sometimes treating every step or two, and she can now go a LOT longer. I'm pretty happy with her progress, especially for a baby puppy with a highly distractible brain.
