Kong question

Get ready to gasp....Morgan HATES bully sticks *gasp*
She likes her Kong & was just curious as to what you all stuff yours with? I want to give her a variety to stave off bordeom

If you google kong receipes, you'll get all lots of great ideas, last time I did it there was great site that showed how to properly stuff one. My dog prefers meat or cheese, no peanut butter for him, he doesn't like it.

peanut butter, cream cheese, meat, kibbles, chewy food sticks. Just to name a few.

You can even put peanut butter and kibble in and freeze it and it make a yummy cool treat on hot days.

She loves frozen peanut butter any treat inside, quickly comes out, she flips it up (smart girl) I'll have to google it, just wanted to ask here since some ideas on google aren't exactly healthy

I use all sorts of stuff and usually freeze the kongs so that they take longer to eat. I'll use wet dog food, dry food w/broth, rice crispie type cereal w/broth, fruit salad (just fresh cut up fruit and a tiny bit of yogurt), canned pumpkin and yogurt mixed or layered...

My pups love anything in a Kong! For the dry stuff w/broth, I stand the Kong up in a cup, plug the small hole w/ a bit of peanut butter (vream cheese would work, too) and then fill with the dry goods. Then slowly pour broth until it reaches the top and into the freezer.

For Athena... we do peanut butter layered with kibble, cream cheese layered with kibble, and we also melt american cheese onto kibble in the microwave, let it cool, and then stuff the kong. She loves all of them. That's the only time I see her run to her crate... she normally runs away when she knows it's time to "go mimir."

No cream cheese in the house...but I do have pumpkin, will try that with cheerios and peanut butter, maybe some broth to top it off

We have 4 kongs here so I'm sure she won't miss one while it freezes

There are some Kong recipes listed in this thread in the Educational Archives

Red loves anything I put in his Kong - I use the King size blue Kong which gives a lot of stuffing room! I've done peanut butter mixed with water-soaked dog food kibble, but his favorite seems to be the vanilla yogurt, sliced banana, and cubed dog food roll - all layered. I plug the small end with a piece of dog food, then spoon in the rest in layers. Then freeze for at least 4 hours. I always freeze it so it is less messy and takes longer to get the contents out. I still don't give it to him on carpet though - he either has to be outside, on his bed, or in the crate, because they can still get a little messy.

I don't give frozen stuffed Kongs very often, only has a special treat. That way he doesn't get bored of them, and he is always really excited to get it and doesn't stop working on it til its empty

I just stick a bunch of cookies in there with a big milkbone type cookie to plug the big hole then they have to get the big cookie out to get the rest of the treats. Vader will get frustrated sometimes & bring it to me to help him. . . but most of the time he can do it by himself. He get these when we leave for work and he has to go to his "room" ~ I usually always put some cheese in - lately it is provolone He will carry empty kongs around & play with them.

He LOVES LOVES LOVES his bully sticks!

she wasn't thrilled with my pumpkin, kibble & peanut butter creation...lost intrest too...I'll try cream cheese next. She's not a bully stick kinda gal & if she doesn't like the stuffed kongs, I guess we'll stick to plain kongs for her to toss...however she did write to her favorite human that she wants a jolly ball for Chritmas (here's hoping she likes it)

Bella is not a Bully Stick fan, either, But she loves Merrick Texas Toothpicks and the Merrick Wizzlers and Knuckles. I don't know why she doesn't like the Bully Sticks. She gets bored with them quickly. She chews one end till it gets frayed, then she's done with it. She loves tendons, also. We have a Raw Connection store in Carmel Valley and they also have great, organic and natural chew things, as does Diggity Dog

same here, a frayed end & lost intrest. My Poms like them though, so they're not wasted. Morgan likes Organic dried chicken breast strips and pig ears from Trader Joe's...She prefers what she can devour right away I guess.

That's what I do in the house too! In the nice weather I will handout a peanut butter stuffed one for out on the deck but not in the house as Rex takes them up on the couch and makes a huge mess with peanut butter everywhere.

I'm new, so I appreciate all the info on what to put into Kongs. My dogs are NOT into them at all, even stuffed with PB they ignored them.
Then again, bully sticks are their very favorites , so maybe it's that most dogs like only one or the other?

I want to try Kong with my gal as well but I donno which one to buy for her? Blue, red, black, medium, large, xlarge? She is 3 month old. Those holes are so small! How do they work it out? They should be able to squeeze the Kong to get the treat or they will work it with their tongue? I think that she will become frustrated real quick and I will waste my money for nothing...

I put almost anything in the Kong that my dogs normally eat. I always freeze my Kongs before giving to the dogs though. I will stuff in hamburger, sweet potato or pumpkin and kefir....maybe some ground turkey banana and kefir....ground chicken some sort of green veggie and kefir...and also do peanut butter. I will put anything into the kong, be creative!!!

Hi there!
I would go with a large size. I use both red and black, I honestly like the red better because the hole is a little bigger. Kongs are very good to keep your dog busy. They figure out very quickly how they work. They use their tongues to get to the food. Also remember to freeze the kong b/c it takes more time for the food to come out. I would buy one and see how she likes it. My dogs LOVE it!

Not sure if all Petco's are created equal, but mine has Kong's on sale, big time here. I bought a few more.
Cream cheese stuffed kong was a no-go too I think she likes unfrozen items, easier to get, little impatient dobergirl!
