That was a pretty twisty course.
Is that for ASCA too? I tried looking, but I couldn't find anything

I haven't seen that venue on there. It might be there, I just haven't seen it.

Not a big deal, I have all the courses jotted down, I was just curious, because I hadn't seen it...

Not that it could be right under my nose and rattling at me I could miss it

Woohoo training was awesome tonight! Both dogs were very naughty on Monday night, so I am glad to report they were amazing tonight!

Dazzle went fast enough that I had to run with her, and she was weaving beautifully and we finished with her excited and ready for more, very unlike her!

Schultz was a lot of fun tonight too, had a difficult twisty course to work on but it went well, and he didn't run off to chase a rogue poodle that ran into our course! Have found a thing in my handling that I need to work on! I've never trusted him to stay with me on course so I am really on top of him trying to keep him with me, constantly using his name to keep his attention on me or saying "HERE!" to keep him close, but we're getting to the point that he is paying attention and my interfering isn't helping now, so going to work on just calling out obstacles and only using his name or "here" when I REALLY need him- gotta trust him more! He nailed some very difficult weave entries too, with me back crossing him- very, very awesome! His mum has been doing lots of 2x2 work to get his weave entries sorted and it's really paying off.

Have 2 days of champ show this weekend, hope the dogs run well for me!

We had a fantastic class last night (other than my other post re: lack of weaves grr).

We are doing a lot of handler/obstacle focus, close and distance and finding the back of a jump. Tuesday is my more beginning level class (probably at Open AKC) and I run 2 dogs. I usually "cheat" and run my advanced dog first to get a feel, then run the novice dog. This time I made myself run the novice dog first and we did great.

Went to Dream Park for agility last weekend and was eaten alive by mosquitoes. And this is an indoor site. They had all the big doors open before it even got daylight. Considering the arena is in a marsh area you would think someone would have realized the potential for a problem.

Bacchus hasn't been in a ring in about a month and a half. We do no training. Saturday was so close for us. He missed the send bonus in fast class because he drifted towards me and missed the jump in between the tunnels. No Q. But he was together with the rest of the course. That was about 7:30am.

At 4:00pm we went into the excellent standard ring for preferred. We were the very last dog. Bacchus was doing great and then for some reason popped a weave.....No Q.

Sunday we did excellent fast preferred and he was SMOKIN'. He Qd in spite of my handling. I led out beyond two jumps and stood next to the teeter. I gave him the signal and as I turned to move along the teeter he was already there. He nailed the send bonus (A-frame to a jump while ignoring the dummy jump between us and then into the far entrance of the tunnel. He came out of the tunnel and if I had been in the correct position we could have done a few jumps and out but I was where I shouldn't have been and he jumped the wrong side of a jump and I had to then send him on to another jump then bring him back to the correct side of the original one (worth 5 pts). Then it was just a matter of me throwing him into jumps at all crazy angles and then over the finish jump. We came in under sct and since he was the only dog in his class to Q he got 1st. He knew he did good and pranced all the way to his crate.

Then we did excellent standard preferred...
The Bacchus I took into the ring was not the same Bacchus I had in fast class. He had his head up his butt. Going wide on turns, showboating , doing his own thing! I finally had enough and motioned to the judge we were stopping and I said "he's done". Her response was "he did it to himself". LOL
When I stopped moving he realized he was done......I called him to me, grabbed his collar and told him "walk of shame" and left the ring.

To top off the day I had two women who were sitting together in the bleachers tell me Bacchus was the biggest doberman they had ever seen. He's 27.5" and 88lbs..

And to further top the day off.......
A woman with an aussie was whistled off the course because it went after the dog that was being taken off after it had just completed its run. When the aussie owner came out of the ring she came right over to where I was standing with Bacchus and put her agitated dog about 2 feet away from him. I had Bacchus in heel position and 2' away she brings her dog!!!! Why??!!

Another hard course. Ran this 2 weekends ago. Full out run until after the tunnel (and of course it was a long straight tunnel and than the box for collection work, which included wraps). Very hard for big striding dogs.

This particular weekend we had slick equipment as well. Dogs sliding on/off the table. The teeter was the worst. Dogs flying off,bailing etc. This was quite a weekend and I am fairly mellow about who judges and equipment etc., but I will not go back if this trial uses the same equipment. (we were told they redo their equipment every year) (there was something wrong thats for sure)

That course is a tough one. There's no excuse for having equipment/footing that is an injury looking to happen. No one wants to go home with a limping dog......or worse.

I am no longer quiet about this. I try to be polite, but do NOT put your aggressive dog near my dogs or you'll hear me ask you to MOVE. We had a DA and HA dog at our CPE trial and I was LIVID at the last trial. I am extremely sympathetic to LIVING with an aggressive dog. I am extremely unsympathetic to taking said aggressive dog outside to TRIALS or around other dogs and putting them in danger.

Another tricky course there

Thanks for posting it. Have you folks ever seen courses that are laid out to better favor the bigger beasts rather than the quick and bendable herding dogs?

Occasionally there will be one that allows the bigger dogs to show how it's done but normally the courses are either choppy or jammed to the extent the big ones are at a disadvantage. If you have a dog that lands deep or has some bulk it can be rough.

I know this is way low-leveled, but I'm proud of Niz for passing his focus&motivations class a week early! (The test was just doing off leash circle work and obedience around teeter boards and wobble boards he loves--I had to call him off of them the first circle, but he avoided them and stuck to my side after that.) We will be moving on to a foundations class in a few weeks. Niz hasn't tried once to go to another dog to say hi (shows absolutely no interest in the other dogs, but he still gets a bit stressed when the other dogs are barking) in the class, and is one of the most drivey big dogs in the class, and is the most confident dog in the class as well.

Not many for us lately--we have been having some really tough courses lately.

Here is one course we had in August that I knew Tamora would just love (so did I)
She did it making it in 5.01 Yds Per second. This course was made for big striding dogs.

Wanna brag on Jonesy's practice yesterday!!! He did so awesome! He's done 3 things he hasn't been able to do great, yesterday, even coach was super impressed with him
1. tight turns like Jump and tight turn to another jump (or weaves)
2. Box jumps... If I am not with him, he tends to stop
3. Contacts! He 2o2o EVERY ONE of them yesterday!

This is the course I hope you can see numbers.... Green is his line, pink is my line

When I was looking at the course to run it I was thinking the tough part would have been 5 to 6 (tight turn), and then 10-15 (box)

We'll the only issue we ran into is that I couldn't cut close to him, or cross behind, on Jump 6, or he would spin before going to the DW(7) but if I went wide, and went on the opposite side of the DW(then I wanted to go) he didn't spin. Which is fine with me, because I can beat him to the end of the DW...

Then from the Table, I lead out to about the start of the A-Frame, and crossed in front of the Tunnel before he got out, and another tight turn from 10 to 11 jumps cross behind him, and give him an out jump and here, and caught him on 15 to the A-Frame...

Another toughie was the Tire Jump to weaves(another tight turn for him), but Jones did it like a pro didn't miss a step...

Color help
Red = Jumps
Orange (contacts)
Purple = weaves
Green = Jonesy
Pink = Me
Blue = Tunnel

Nice job and tough course. The opening doesn't flow well for me. I think I would have lead out to 2 and called Flirt over 1 to 2 and then turn back to 3 . And then done a front cross at the teeter. 5-6 would be hard for Flirt if I was on the right. Alternately I could have asked for a stay on the teeter and relased when I was at jump 5 (but I don't trust the stay in trials!) and then pushed on her line to get to 6.

Sounds like you and Jonesy did FANTASTIC.

Yeah I did a Send on 2 then called to 3, Jones doesn't do a 2o2o for the teeter (he never really masted the bounce on that) so we do a running teeter...

But Jones alternatively wouldn't do well with me "pushing" him to 6, he is a better "pull" dog...

Thanks for posting the course. It's nice to see what other big dog owners would do. And I mean BIG dog owners, not just 24" jumpers Flirt is the only real big dog in my 2 days of classes so it's tough sometimes as we don't have much to compare to. The instructor helps a lot.

We had a really HARD class last night in our intermediate/beginner class. The only dog who got it was my 8 year old (who's in class to stay in shape mostly). Since Wed usually has a very similar course I'm worried for Flirt and I. It had a snooker feel and you had to go by tunnels and jumps, etc. Havoc, my most beginning dog, did well and I got some great tips.

Ah, maybe this will work. in the first course, the only off course I had was Havoc took jump 6 after the tunnel. I have a bad habit of STANDING and not moving. Yellow was the dog's path. Red was my path. We had a lot of dogs take jump 2 after jump 3, and/or take the wrong tunnel.

And for those of you who've seen my post about not having weaves..notice NO weaves

I did a wrap a jump 2, another wrap at jump 3, sent to tunnel, did another wrap at jump 5 and a rear at jump 7.

This was our second course and again this is a beginning/intermediate (maybe) class. My instructor starts all dogs in privates and then they go to this class.

This one flowed really nice. The only problem I had was after jump 2 Gabby ran into the cones trying to get into the tunnel I tried the opening 2 ways. With her I had her flip to the left into the tunnel and it worked better. With Havoc I had him wrap to the right and send in. I did a wrap at jump 4 and a rear at jump 6.

Just got back from the trials and we got 2 Qs. Also 2 first placements. We got those by default. He was the only dog to Q in his class. Another weekend of the "agony and the ecstasy". LOL

I think you should learn to do it the way Adara said. That turn on 3 will get dangerous if he starts moving really fast and you won't get a tight turn by pulling him over 3. I would lead out past 2 push to 3, FC after 3 and that will pull him into you tight without him wondering where he is going next. That pull to 3 followed by a push to 4 is a dangerous move and you may get taken out at the knees once he really starts to move. Other than that I think you did nicely. That 10-11-12 piece can be hard to get right. I notice you did a BC after the tunnel . Just make sure you are calling his name as you get past the tunnel so he knows you changed sides on him.

Who is your instructor? We had Mia Grant up here for a seminar last weekend and she emphasizes being able to take your dog past the tunnel entrances without big pull offs or undue trickery.

I train with Donna D'Amico at Greytdogs Agility. She trains with Kathy Leggett. So by way of that we get a lot of things Kathy teaches also. Kathy specifically trains how to get past a tunnel entrance and we've been walked through it. This was an extension of that.
