AKC agility changes: 24 yps more time; no down/sit table

http://www.akc.org/pdfs/about/board_minutes/0510.pdf

I am most excited to see there is no longer a down required on the table since I have a Vizsla that REFUSES to put her elbows down.

24" dogs also appear to get more time overall.

They are no longer judging the up contact on the dog walk (which Flirt barely makes half the time)

They changed the MACH multipliers but I've never been at that level so can't explain

Effective 9/1/10

I always liked the contact points as I had a dog that hit every single one of them every single time, 1-up for us on the Borders who flew over them hahaha xD

I find it confusing that different things take effect at different times. I thought everybody had already gone to 24" poles. Imagine my suprise when a recent trial still had 21" and I had adjusted mine at home to 24.

24" poles won't even happen until 2011, they found it was too much of a financial draw on small clubs, I believe. <shrug>

Just remember, this is only for AKC, unless that's your sole venue, it doesn't mean any difference in training. Although the yps is nice!

I know a friend of mine with a BC who hates the table will be very happy.

We're already training 24" weaves, but I also mix it up with 22" ones, and vary my jump heights over a course. I want to train Kylie to handle anything that comes at her, at different venues.

man glad to hear thee is no down anymore, Apollo don't know where to put himself because he is big lol, so he prefers to sit anyways, lucky us and i thought also, they changed already the poles to 24"

Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

I am soooo excited and happy about the position-less table! My Italian Greyhound Jack HATES to put his elbows down...the other weekend it cost us about 7 seconds of me pleading with him before he put his elbows down...we did Q that run, but only by a second.

I was glad to hear about many of the changes. Especially the table - considering I have struggled wit the table for two plus years. Delta will now lay down in a normally decent amount of time, but she feels that because I don't expect the same of her every time, that she really shouldn't have to do either.

So I think I have found all of them, here goes:
  • A waitlist can be created, that allows entries to be taken in after the closing date to replace entries that are withdrawn. Entries withdrawn after the closing date will recieve a full refund, if they can be replaced from the waitlist.
  • 4" and 8" dogs get the a-frame height reduced from 5' 6" to 5' 0".
  • Dog walk contacts are both 42" long (as the 3" addition to the upside is no longer needed), and only the down contact must be touched.
  • Table no longer requires a position, and the count starts as soon as all four feet hit the table.
  • Weave poles will have 24" spacing mandatory January 1, 2012.
  • In all classes the dogs are only allowed three attempt at the poles and then must move on.
  • For all classes the tire jump will be set 4" lower than the jump height.
  • 180 degree turn from tunnel onto A-frame is not allowed.
  • If the dog gets tangled up in the closed tunnel fabric, gets hung up going through the tire, or falls off on the ascent side of the dog walk, A-frame or seesaw, the handler has the choice to immediately reattempt the obstacle once and then leave the course. Alternatively, the handler has the choice not to retry the obstacle the dog had trouble with and continue running the course.
  • Yards per second is reduced for all 8" and 24" (not for 26" though) dogs in all classes.
  • Excellent Standard for 24" - reduced from 3.10 to 2.90.
  • Excellent JWW for 24" - reduced from 3.75 to 3.55.
  • Second obstacle in FAST can be plus or minus 5 feet in Open and Excellent.
  • The Time to Beat (T2B) class rules are established, effective date not yet determined.
  • Establishment of lifetime agility achievement titles in both standard, JWW and FAST in standard and preferred this takes effect January 1, 2012.
  • Bronze (25), Silver (50), Gold (75), and Century (100) are the respective ones.
  • essentially every 25 Q's earned gets the next level.
  • PACH title (preferred MACH) will start on Jan 1st, of 2013.
  • Multipliers are removed, effective July 1, 2011. I think this is the case considering that section was removed from the rules.
