AKC to approve working titles !

AKC will now allow the following titles to appear on their pedigrees!

BH, SchH1, SchH2, SchH3, IPO1, IPO2, IPO3, SchHA, FH1, and FH2

I think this is great news. Hopefully now sense there is the ability to achieve these more people will go and get these titles sense they are now to be shown on the pedigree.
I, for one plan to make my next puppy a "working puppy" Meaning focusing more on the working aspects with her this time around. If she is a conformation puppy also so be it. But working titles are my goal with my next puppy. I would like to see what we can accomplish. And this gives me more titles to consider achieving.

I found this on AKC Still researching and willpost info as I find it.

Effective December 31, 2009, at the end of a three year trial period, the Board voted to discontinue the Working Dog Sport. Moving forward the AKC will record Working Dog titles earned in events held by existing organizations, if requested by a breed Parent Club. The organization must be approved by the AKC Performance Events Department. Titles to be recorded require Board approval. The recording of the title on an AKC pedigree will be done at the request of the dog’s owner for a fee set by the AKC. In addition, AKC clubs will be permitted to invite the other organization to hold its Working Dog event in conjunction with the AKC club’s AKC event, as long as it is clear in the publicity that the former is being held under the auspices of another organization.

HOW TO RECORD A WORKING DOG TITLE WITH AKC
The AKC will record Working Dog titles* earned in events held by organizations** as requested
by Breed Parent Clubs and approved by the AKC. Recording of a title is done at the request of a
dog’s owner through the following process -
1. Upon earning a Working Dog title, complete the Application to Record a Working Dog Title.
2. Attach a check or money order for the appropriate amount or complete the credit card
information.
3. Mail the application and payment to the AKC.
4. AKC will verify and record the title.
5. AKC will issue and mail a title certificate to the recorded owner.
Only one title will be recorded per application and only the highest level achieved will appear on
the dog’s pedigree. Updated Registration Certificates and Pedigrees may also be ordered in the
space provided.
Please see the AKC website at American Kennel Club - Working Dog Sport for the following
information:
* Working Dog titles that will be recorded for your breed.
** Event giving organizations whose Working Dog titles AKC will recognize.
Questions: Please contact AKC at [email protected] or (919) 816-3900

Well, it is about time! Of course there is a cost to do it. AKC does nothing for free.

I think the recording fee is 50.00 for past achieved titles!Which I think is VERY high. So I am guess ing they only did this to more more money. But at least we got it!

Red face

I am still researching and posting what I find out and it appears that only UDC titles will be excepted at this time and that DVG and UScA titles will not be recognized until UScA changes their by laws back to allow all AKC registered dogs??? SO now I have more reading and leaning to do. Willpost more once I discover it.

I'm sure I'm not alone in my opinion of AKC - not being a big fan of the organization as a whole, but kind of a necessary evil as they are the only FCI recognized registry in the US - so if you don't want your dog entered as a mixed breed in the working dog book you have to deal with the devil.

But I have to give props where they are due - it is ABOUT TIME they recognize at least one of the working dog sports...but of course I won't be happy until they at least recognize French Ring and Mondio and some of the American Working Dog Sports like PSA.

Thanks for posting the info - I believe GSDCA-WDA (a part of the AKC Working Dog Association) posted something recently on their site or in one of the magazines I received about the requirements. I think the riff that UScA caused by passing the "Grewe" Ammendment might come back to bite them in the butt concerning AKC recognizing certain titles from them.

It is my understanding that the PARENT club decides which sch organization to recognize. I think going with UDC is a stupid move, they should have choosen DVG or UScA, where more trials are held and more people likely to title.

The stupid part is that I highly doubt the UDC will recognize the ADA or any trials put on or run thru them.

Politics are simply retarded, especially here in north america.

But hey at least they recognize your sport at all.
