Ace's first FASTCat

So we are still battling all of the allergy issues. Lots of fun.. (not). Some places set him off, but others don't. So he can no longer come to work, but he didn't have any issues at the facility where the FASTCat trials were held. I have a small grip on it, it feels like, because he's not obviously miserable. But its intense. A long daily routine of snout soothers, paw soothers, Apoquels, salmon oils, Vet prescribed supplements, etc. I would do anything to total erase this poor dog's allergies.

Anyways, we were only able to attend the Friday AM and PM trials. But I hope to get his BCAT title soon. There's another local trial coming up in March, where if he can speed it up a little, he could get that title, haha.

AM Trial was his first time ever and he had no idea what was going on. He ran with his ears up and looking around the whole time, but still pulled off a 9.64 second run. (21.22mph)
PM Trial, he knew what to do, but the girl who released him for me couldn't get him to stand at the start. He kept wanting to sit and wait. Which was 100% fault because I had been working on heeling with him in our downtime in between. Whoops! He ran 8.90 seconds for that one. (22.98mph). Going forward, I will probably be the one to release him.

We got a couple pictures back from the trial, and I figured I would share!

By far my favorite picture. He definitely looks focused, but this was the second trial of the day, so he knew what was expected by then.

Then the derpy starts to show as he realizes the photographer is still laying on the ground behind me.

Lure? What lure? There's a hooooman lying on the ground! Must go dobe poke in the face! Derpy, derp, derp.

I'm telling you. This dog isn't food driven or prey driven, he's people driven. He loves to socialize with most anyone. He doesn't really want you to pet him, but he wants to give his love, lol. He licked all over the photographer before I could get back over to him, that silly dog.

If he had fun, and you had fun...that's what it's all about!

Sorry to hear the allergies are still such a struggle.

Great pics! Which FCAT trials were you at?

We are in MD too. The last one we went to was out at White Post, VA after Thanksgiving. Missed out on the upcoming March FCAT there, but am hoping to catch a couple in Finksburg MD when it warms up. Willie LOVES running and has an absolute ball with the FCAT - We don't often see other dobes there, so hopefully we will run into you all soon.

And for those of you who do not live in the DMV (District, MD, VA). There is actually a town called White Post in VA and it is literally named after the White Post in the middle of the town - and by 'town' I mean intersection.

Figuratively, I assume. LOL

My home town, Baton Rouge--French for Red Stick--was named after "a red cypress tree stripped of its bark that marked the boundary between Houma and Bayou Goula tribal hunting grounds." Wiki

That was, however, a long time ago (1699) LOL

Gotta laugh at the names folks come up with, though. We have a neighborhood in Colorado Springs where the street names are:

Carefree, Whileaway, Nonchalant, Nevermind and Serendipity, all built around 1970. I don't know about you, but when I think of 1970, I think of Kent State and the Vietnam War (and the Beatles breakup.)

Hardly a carefree time.

Was pot legal in those towns in the 70's? Maybe that is how they got their names?

You drove me to Wikipedia, where I found this:

"...under federal law, it was illegal to possess, use, buy, sell, or cultivate cannabis in all United States jurisdictions, since the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 classified marijuana as a Schedule I drug, claiming it has a high potential for abuse and has no acceptable medical use."

Maybe the neighborhood names were a form of protest.

I don't see a Reefer, Mary Jane or Doobie Street though. (Hmmmm--Dobe Street?--nope not one of them either.)

Awesome! We are nearly Delaware, so I don't venture to any shows in VA. I've been hemming and hauling on the Finksburg shows since they are about an hour and a half from us, but I may consider that later in the year! If I go, I will be sure to reach out to you! We right now just attend the SMKC shows you can find on the AKC event search. We have one in March that will have him ONE RUN AWAY from his BCAT title, but I am not able to take off that friday, UGH! Haha. we will be so close.

Ace really enjoys it, and I will definitely share pictures from the next one! I convinced a local doberman owner to bring her boy also! Ace is still one of the only doberman's I have ever met.

Chesa,
Here is a link to the Sugarloaf Mountain Racing site. Ching Yao who runs the lures and timers for all the races manages this site, and you can enter events through it - easier and faster than through Info dog or the AKC site. I also recommend joining the Mid Atlantic All Breed Lure coursing group on FB. That will give you advance notices for all the FCAT and CAT events in the mid-atlantic. I have seen a few come up recently in PA and Southern Jersey that may be close to you as well.

Hi! Thanks for the link! I actually am already a member of the FB group, and use Ching's page as well as communicate with him, and use his website since our runs last year. We don't travel out of MD at this time for these races, but maybe that'll change in a few years.

I just limit what I say on an open forum to keep a form of anonymity.

Thanks!

Bahaha I will say the farthest part of the state is only 4 hours away, but we have SO much going on in our lives right now, I just have no travel time! I'm finishing my degree (graduating in a few months, woohoo!), planning our wedding which is coming up, going across the country TWICE very soon for non dog related things, and starting a new job very soon. So much is going on that my weekends are nearly all spoken for, for the rest of the year! So I wait until the fun things come local to make sure I can still get Ace out and having fun!
