Train with as much kindness as possible.
Don't compare our training and trialing experiences against someone else's yardstick.
Be prepared to take a break or change goals if things don't work out.
Just get out there and DO stuff with them, darn it!

Feel free to add your own goals, whether it's "Finish our OTCH" or simply "Survive this dog's puppyhood".

Hoping to get Helo in the conformation ring (we go to handler classes every week) and I signed him up for nose work classes starting in January. I still have all the scents from when I competed with Indy and Helo seems to show a keen interest so we have been practicing around the house.

For Finnegan, I'd would thrilled if we get his last leg to earn his NACSW NW3 Elite nosework title. Would also like to get his UKC Elite Nosework title. Otherwise just trying to keep him fit and healthy as he has been having recurring foot injuries. Our fun goal is to get his Expert Trick Dog title.

For Adele, I'd like to get her NACSW NW3 title, her UKC Superior Nosework title, walk on loose leash, use the dog treadmill, get her Expert Trick Dog title, and hopefully start agility classes.

My main goal is to get our NW3 Elite title. We need one more NW3 and our Interior element ribbon.
If we have the time/money to play with AKC, we could knock out his SWN title (only needs one more Buried Q) and maybe SWA as well.
It would be fun to get his novice trick dog title, but that comes after everything else!

Nadia
SPr1 is my major goal for this year, and if possible an IGP1
ZTP would be my secondary goal.
Other things that would be nice:
- AD
- Get her 3rd Q to finish up her Novice Barn title.

Vanya
- get her 3rd Q for her Novice Barn title, keep going in barn where possible.
- get her tracking to an FPr1 level. And if I could put enough OB on her maybe a BH... and then get an actual FPr1 on her.

I've come so far
You are the answer I've waited for

Ace

AKC
  • BCAT
  • TKI

Barnhunt Association
  • RATI
  • RATN

Bonuses would be his BN and RN titles.

I'd also like to set the goal to begin his obedience training at the kennel club. That will be in summer/fall area hopefully. We all have some big life changes coming up, so I'm hoping not to fall too far behind with him.

Okay, we can cross their OD-WD 3 titles off as done. They had enough miles for it since way back in April of last year. I just hadn't gotten around to submitting their logs until this month.

And this.

If you are a reasonably decent dog owner and are actively working and learning how to help your dog fit into your family better, it's actually pretty hard to "ruin" them. Dogs can be pretty resilient. No need to kick yourself if you blow it from time to time; just get back in there and plug away at it again.

But keeping up with the nails??? Guilty as charged. It really is easier to keep them short if you keep up with them, but I tend to think "Oh, I need to trim nails today! But not right now, because I'm busy doing...well, whatever...and then I never get back around to it."

*sigh*

Training for routine stuff really works better in 5 and 10 minute chunks scattered around in the day, and worked into other parts of my daily routine. That much I can handle--maybe because it's fun to keep it short and light. But if I actually have to go out to a special place and train (dog agility gym, for example) it's a little tougher.

*sigh, again*

Wow Rosemary way to make us all feel like slackers!

My goals for Kya are:
WAC, which would give her a ROM
Healthy puppies

My goals for Mav:
Novice agility titles

I know it's not much but with the expectation of puppies this year I don't want to set up many goals since they will take away so much.

Well, for several of the ones I have listed, we already have everything (or most of it, at least) that we need for them, and it's just a matter of submitting.

I also find if I don't break down all the steps along the way to "Big Title XYZ" then it can get pretty discouraging. For example, my big goal for this year is their All Dogs Premier Championship titles. That means a Premier title at all five levels, with a total of 40 legs. Being able to say that we now have 5 of 7 legs needed at a given level, and 25 legs in total means that we are that much closer to the overall end goal.

I also break things down into goals that are likely to get accomplished, goals that may get accomplished, and goals that are probably a pipe dream, but still something to work towards. If the likely goals get achieved, great. If the maybe not so attainable goals get achieved, wow, fantastic. If one of the pipe dream goals gets achieved, I will probably faint from shock.
