Bad handler! He did search well and never gave up, so that's something.
The mental stuff can totally get you - I almost tanked us at our recent vehicle trial...I was thinking how you know sometimes the judge is only on one side of the vehicle so the hide "can't" be on the other side because they aren't "watching" that side of it? You totally should NOT think that, but I was, and I pulled Sypha away from that side of the vehicle not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES! THREE! Finally she dragged me back there, and I called alert, and low and behold, the judge is behind me, when I totally was convinced she wasn't! I really thought I saw her way over on the other side - BAD HANDLER! Good thing my dog was insistent on following the odor, huh? Yikes.

Well.......Hoss’s Intro to scent class starts in September.........you two got me fired up yesterday........I have been wanting to do this class for quite some time......so signed up.....yep.....waiting list to get into class.....!!!
So last night I went to the training school to check out their methods....also to take Hoss on a field trip. Hoss was well behaved......he attended this school before but thought I would let him take in some sniffs and relax in the new school atmosphere.....
Saw a lot of green tennis balls...........and funny....another women was watching class.......we chatted ......turns out she is in sept class also.....she was visiting to check out the class also. Real good vibes .............she has a border collie same age as Hoss.
Since the waiting list was so long......also signed Hoss up for an obedience class beginning 7-1 just to get Hoss and I out more.....but within the air conditioning......getting real hot already in Florida. So thanks for the videos....we are now a work in progress.......below is a link to our training facility .....we are now a work in progress ......thanks.

I hate to say this - but it is raining here this morning and I welcome it - lol NOW I can sit here and catch up on the Nose work vid's lol

I hope this is OK to bring up as I'm NOT in nose work trainer - Just me thinking out loud here But 79 and MC both did one thing in common in there -- After work thoughts .

1. 79 - They would not have a blank room .

2. MC - The judge is on one side - so the hide would not be on the opposite side .

Now girls ---- trust me here - as I was a Pro at this - lol That is what I call out thinking yourself ! The obvious is not always that way - I have done this on the farm and when we were racing - and it's so easy to do !

Now for my unsolicited advise for the day Always keep a open mind - You two are outstanding trainers - handlers ! You work with your dogs and it shows in these video's - But I get the feeling that you don't always trust what they are telling you - I really love the Look that Newtie gives .

Now for the truth here ! I do know - in a since what you too have done - All our dogs talk to us - I have made the big mistake to question them and it always came back to me - like Doc - You Dumbazz !

I had this happen the other day - and I was not happy with the out come and it was totally my fault ! Mr. Business told me BUT !

OK you nose workers - I'm planning on working in the office here today --- SSSSSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOO there better be some video's posted up

Thanks !

Doc

Here's a nice simple one for folks starting out. This is our NW1 container search. We know going in there's only one hide and there are no distractors at this level.
As you can see, I have a little bit of a box crusher on my hands! So far we haven't received any faults, but supposedly they are cracking down on it. Thankfully the judges I've talked to don't seem to be that worried about it, so we'll just keep doing what we're doing. As long as he's crushing the right box!

This is a level 2 vehicle trial - very straightforward, nice search from Richter. Two hides. You can see nice behavior changes before he nails down the location of the hides. These searches are exactly when he's at his best. Very clear communication from him.

At NW2 and above, there can be hidden "distractors" of food or toys in the search area for containers.

Nice job on the vehicles, Richter! I don't know why but that's always the element I feel the most nervous about. I haven't really had trouble with either dog, but there just seems to be so many variables with them.

This is Brandy's last NW3 vehicle search. It was a miserable day! HOT and super windy, it was like someone had a hair dryer blowing hot air on high at you all day long. She did so well though, I was super proud! We actually got a pronounced on this element and three others during this trial! (The judges may ‘Pronounce’ handler/dog teams demonstrating exceptional technique and/or teamwork at each NW1, NW2, NW3, Elite, and Summit League trials. This is not part of the title, but rather an acknowledgement of exceptional teamwork on that particular trial day.)

Rosemary doesn't have any trial videos, because nobody has entered a trial since.... uh, 2015? I entered Leo is some UKC Pre-Trial tests (a box search the dog has to pass in order to enter an actual trial) and her brain melted. Since then, I've only trained sporadically (this spring is the most we've worked in ages) and "real life" has gotten in the way of "dog life".

In AKC you can have a range of distractors at the higher levels, including food, toys, "mimic" items like a realistic looking stuffed animal, visual like a light that has a motion sensor, and other stuff like that.

Oh, and I'm a two hour one way drive from the closest nosework classes that I know of. The Fenzi Dog Sports Academy has been my main source of instruction for pretty much everything we train these days, be it nosework, obedience, or what have you.
