Me:
Train with kindness, understanding, and the least amount of compulsion possible.
Don't compare my dogs and/or our training unfavorably against others.
Don't compare our accomplishments unfavorably against others.
Love my dogs for who and what they are.
Love my dogs.

Most of the things we do these days are online venues, but I've got a UKC/AKC Nosework/Scent Work club practically in my backyard (they are in the Houston area), so I'm hoping to enter a trial or two.

Feel free to add your goals for 2018.... anything from "survive house training my new puppy" to "get an OTCH, a UDX, and qualify for the National Obedience Championship" works.

2017 Recap:
Tucker: finished his OTCh in October

Alice: continued to be Alice

Ryan: discovered she LOVES lure coursing and earned a CA but didn't enter any obedience trials because she is still WILD

2018 Goals:
These are moderated a bit by a move and very stressful graduate school program

Tucker:
make sure retirement isn't too boring
increase his fitness level

Alice:
increase her fitness level (I own a treadmill, some fitpaws, and a flirt pole so this shouldn't be as difficult as it feels right now)
go through Recallers from start to finish

Ryan:
go through Recallers from start to finish
PCD and hopefully a start on a CD
CAX

Thanks for starting this thread!

Accomplishments in 2017:
As an SD: took the plane for the first time. Finally got comfortable going up and down escalators.
Started training in French Ring
Passed the CSAU at a French Ring Trial hosted by our club with a French judge.

Main target for 2018:
Earn a French Ring Brevet, hopefully by Fall 2018

Secondary target:
De-sensitize/counter-condition her to cats (she used to love them, then had a bad experience when she was about 1.5 years old and has been scared since then, but this Summer my roommates had a kitten and she eventually got over her fear and even started to play with the kitty... that has not transferred over to all cats however)
Do a dog in white Ring1 routine

Bonus/Extension of Goal:
Actually compete in Ring1
Get a passing grade in Ring1

Side Quests:
CGN
WAC
CD
(maybe) BH

And of course as my SD, continue bringing her and exposing her to new things and situations!

Goals with Vanya: continue to provide a secure and loving home so she can continue to be her sane, affectionate and mischievous little Min Pin self

I am still deciding on this! So many choices, so little time.

I'm thrilled to report that Prophet finished his AKC Championship this weekend (with 3 majors), making him our 3rd champion this year. Kayla finished in February, Mya finished in August and Prophet in December.

I'd like to add performance titles - all 5 of my dogs train in agility currently, but I'd like to pursue other venues as well.

I hate to even post this up --- after reading everybody's goals - you will - best guess - fall out of your chair - laughing your rears off at mine !

1st off - Over the years - we are dang near non stop here with work - Farm - Custom Spraying crop's business - then add a trucking company + we do full field research studies with Purdue U. and then 1 to 3 field days at the farm . Our dogs have all been great to get along with - pretty good on OB . BUT I have made a command decision here , I am going to drop something - to free up time to work with Mr. Business ! He came from a top of the line breeder - His brother ( Thief ) scored a 5 point Major in OH last fall - his 2 sisters are all CH's and now it's turn ! In my eye's !

We had a set back the past month - Every time I take Mr.B to the Vets office - Pet store - where ever - When we walk in or meet another dog - the other dog starts backing at him - growling at him - Well Mr.B stand's his ground and then he start's raising cane with the other dog ! So this past week - I enrolled him in a group training class not far from here - we have worked with this trainer before - I had told her what was going on - it was the other dog that started it - she laughed - you know - our kids do no wrong - right ?

So last week was our first trip - one other couple was there sitting in the very back with some dam ole coon dog - as soon as we walked in - that coon dog lit up !! All we did was walk in - the trainer looked at me as -- you weren't kidding ! I turned him around - left the room - had a short talk with son - that the other dog was a D.A. and it was OK - walked back in and the coon dog started back up again - Mr. B told him something in dog talk and this is the God's truth - the coon dog ran around and hide behind his owners - laid down and looked at us from under a chair ! lol

He was antsy at first - he wanted to work ! The class lasted for a hour and a half - and over all he did very good ! The trainer kept saying to me - I don't know what your so worried about - Mr. B has to get along - and not worry about the other dogs ! The reason for all of this is -

MY goal for this year is Nose Work ! Thank's to Mrs Meadowcat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe a good citizen class - award or what every . And see where we are - lol Not as much as you others - But farm boy has to start some place - right ?

Best of luck to everybody - Extra good luck to the new Mom's and Dad's !

...Ken

Ilka's reactivity and aggression issues are what got us into video titling venues. About he only "in person" goals I have are the TT, CGC, and nosework goals, and if we don't met them, then, oh well. We sill have lots of things to do via video.

Another update... Leo has earned her ADP-L5/Championship titles.

They’ve also earned a title not on the list. Lily was the first dog to earn a Novice Scent Detection title from Cyber K9, and Leo was the second. I’m already planning on trying for Advanced and Master Scent Detection titles, as well as obedience and trick titles. Cyber K9 has only been up and running since last October.

Lily is the second dog to have earned an All Dogs Parkour Level Premier title. She earned her ADP-L1(Pr) yesterday. The first dog to earn a Level Premier title was Leo.

Lily is working on Level 2 Premier videos, and Leo is working on Level 3 Premier videos.

The first chase ability weekend of the year for us has come and gone! Ryan went 2/2 on Friday evening, although her runs were no where near as clean and pretty as they were last year! Then on Saturday AM she was lame and I had to pull her. She went to the vet today, where they confirmed she is sore, not hurt.

As soon as she is all healed up I will start some serious anaerobic work with her. I'm hoping to cram a lot of obedience training into the four weeks I have off later in the summer!

Goals:

1) loose leash walking using positive reinforcement or otherwise I buy a sled and move to Alaska

2) less reactivity to other dogs or people in the distance (continue building confidence; hey he now accepts the neighbors motorcycle!)

3) AKC CGC

4) putting on a show collar & lead without Loki going loco

5) walking with a show collar and lead and have fun (which does not include jumping on me going loco)

6) work towards AKC CH with breeder (maybe goal for another year given the above :-)

7) no more consumption of socks, pinecones, sticks or non-digestible fiber

8) investigate pet insurance for when/if we fail at the above

Well it's Aug 2nd already ! Where in the heck did this summer go ? Crops are running way ahead of schedule - Thinking it may be as early as the 2 nd week of Sept. and we'll be rocking and rolling - This brings me to the meat of the subject here : )

As I said earlier - I had to free up some time for Mr. Business - Well We did a group OB class - late winter - early spring - What fun that class was ! To pass the class - we preformed in front of the others in the class - that is when the bug bite ! I loved it and of course - Mr. B did great - even with a sub par handler - lol

I did drop the Spray business - boy - I didn't realize just how much time I spent doing that ! So I called Pawsitive parterns in Beech Grove - looks like a first class facility - At first I asked about nose work - then thought about Novice OB - Then Dobebug asked me If I had checked into Rally - You all know that bug has about 456 dog years of experience and Checked into it - Bing go ! That would fit us very well ! Thanks Aunt B !

Fast forward to July 31 - I sent a e-mail to Pawsitive Partner's - This did not go well -- at all ! After 3 e-mails - There was ------- maybe --- maybe 1 opening for a mid Sept class - I told them that would not work as we may be into Harvest - Then there reply --- If not this class - the waiting list is over a year - before I may be able to get him in ! UN --- REAL !

I had too think on this one - I then called Simon - A Doberman friend in Greenfield - He recommended I call Anderson OB Club - In Anderson IN - About the same drive time as Pawsitive - I talked to Patty there yesterday - She is also a Dobie Gal ! GREAT ! lol We talked for about 20 minutes - She do's have a opening in Mid Sept - I told her the story and then she asked If I could do a ? I think Oct 23 rd class - - That may push it - But will do my best to make that work as that will be the last class of this year - I have to thank Patty for her time - First class lady ! And A BIG Thank you Simon !

Patty Knows the trainer at Pawsitive and had talked to her the night before I called - The reason it's so hard to get in there is most are return customers - moving on up in classes - and the popularity of ???? Rally - General OB and nose work ! From my conversations the past few days - Dog sports have to very high ! Mostly the competitive classes -

I need more time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These places don't and can't work around my time ! damnit ! the fertilizer plants do ! lol Plus the seed dealers ! Ieven told them who I was - that didn't work either lol I'm just joking here - : ))
If were going to move ahead - I have to dance to a different tune ! So command decision time again - I'm hosting a field day Aug 16 here - that will be my last + I will drop the on farm research - these both take a lot of time in the spring , summer -both that I enjoy doing - But I never have enjoyed working with my best friend as much as I have with Mr.B ! The only thing left to cut - would to be quit farming Or drop the trucking - which really eats up a lot of time ! I really need to hit the lottery ! lol

This is not the point I thought I would be in today - as I thought we would be farther along - Just disappointing ! But we will get there --------- Someday !

So my friends - that's the deal here -- How is everybody else doing this summer ?

...Ken

Good for you forging ahead, Ken. I can tell you are a man of determination.
Our goals and conflicts with training have been - Cabin, Cabin and Cabin. Trying to beat the time and weather which just keeps pushing us.

Our goals with the dogs, especially Duggan and Kiri is NW1 for each. There are NACSW trials here in SLC in November! If we can get that title, each will have their ROM title.

Nose work has turned out to be just so much fun. I love seeing how much the dogs love it.

ECIN, I have four words... Fenzi Dog Sports Academy. Yes, in person classes are great, and do double duty for socialization and acclimation, but with the online classes, you can work on things when you have a few minutes minutes here and there. Classes from this session started yesterday, but registration goes through the 15th. https://fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/about-us
