Smile Red's 2nd Rally Trial - video and pics

Red qualified for his 2nd leg of his Rally Novice title today! :biggrin55

We got a score of 86, but 1st place in our class since there was only 2 people in Novice A. The deductions were -3 for a retry of a station when Red went into a down instead of a sit, -1 for tight leash when I accidentally corrected him for that, and -10 for IP when he didn't get his butt all the way down for a sit. I didn't realize this at the time or I would've retried the station. I think I was going too fast at that point and didn't give him enough time. Mental note to self to slow down next time!

Anyway, bottom line is that we QUALIFIED and only have 1 more leg to go to get his RN title! :biggrin55

For the full report, visit our blog: Red XIII: 2nd Rally Trial! Qualifying score!

Here's the video:

And some photos:

Our set-up (green crate) with a nice view of the Rally ring

Red and I with our green qualifying ribbon and blue 1st place ribbon

It was a very eventful day with a few surprises (see the full blog entry) but we had a lot of fun! Next Rally trial is scheduled for February 21, 2009, and hopefully will earn our 3rd leg and RN title then!

Yeah, Red! He looks so curious in the crate side photos...like "what do want, Mom?"

I'm glad you got through it all even without much notice. I am super focused on finding out who has shown up, picked up their number etc just because of what happened to you today. It's terrible to feel so rushed.

I'm glad the drive home was uneventful for you guys, and you're home safe and sound. Give Red a hug from us!

Yay Burns! You and Red are an inspiration to me and Thakoon as we head into our 2nd week of "Beginner Obedience" this coming Thursday.

Congrats on completion of your 2nd leg towards Red's RN! So close now

Thanks, Carol! I love this crate. Its very sturdy, and it sets up and collapses really quickly. And is light and easy to carry. I'm glad I got the 36" and not the 42" - its a good size for what we use it for.

Yes, it is! It was horrible - I felt completely unprepared and flustered as we were shoved into the ring. It never even occured to me to find out ahead of time if someone in my class didn't check in. But you can bet I will learn from this mistake and never let it happen again!

Yeah, I don't know if it was only because all the Dobes I saw were bitches, but they all looked really tiny to me. And Red isn't even that big - he's pretty much an average sized male, 80 lbs and 27.5" tall. They were very beautiful dogs though. I especially liked the petite red bitch that was competing in Advanced. Pretty girl!

I edited the video in Windows Movie Maker. Its the basic video editing software that came with Windows Vista. I wish I had a more advanced program, because there are things I don't like about this one, but that would require me to pay money, which I don't want to do

Yes, so close! Hopefully we'll have our RN in a little more than a month. It will be a real milestone for me because I've never done anything like this with a dog before. I never thought I'd be doing any competitive obedience, but now I'm hooked and I love it After our RN, I'm hoping to start for his CD. Still lots of work to do before I feel comfortable trialing for that though!
