Brownie Training - 10 Jan

Brownie turned 10 months old yesterday. We celebrated by...what else, training.

He has started to fill out a little bit, he is getting to be a pretty big boy and he is wide open...

I am really happy with him, he shows alot of potential and IMO he is a very good looking doberman.

He is just gorgeous Amanda, as are his littermates Basil and Beda who I see often at my club.

wow, looks like he is channeling all that 'piss n' vinegar' from puppyhood in the right place! Looks good. If only the ears were back in that last shot!

He is looking good. And looks like he enjoys himself a lot out there.

Are you still planning to show him? What are your plans for the big Brownie boy?

Love, love, love this boy! He's beautiful Amanda & the pix are great

I'm kinda curious - in the pics where your holding the leash with Brownie going for the decoy - how hard is he pulling? I would be curious to know from a female's standpoint how much strength you need to handle a Sch level dog?

As I'm learning & reading more on each venue that Dobes can participate in .. I keep wondering, since I'm only 5'2 and stay around 120-125lbs {edited to add: not to mention 47yrs old *sigh*.. lol}, if I would even be able to handle a Dobe training for Sch. I assume the obedience portion of the sport helps with control ...

I can tell you that my boy, who is only 26.5 inches, 65lbs and not at ALL filled out, who isn't particularly high drive nor schutzhund trained can pull me right over for a sleeve ( i'm about 6 ft and 140lbs)

they are STRONG when they want something

Not in AKC. I may have him re-evaluated when he gets older and more mature, but honestly...It is not major important to me. I don't think he would be competitive anyway without hiring a big name handler, and even then...I dont know. I am not really that familiar with the AKC showing stuff...these are just my speculations. We may try it someday, but not anytime in the next few months or anything.

I do plan on showing him in UDC though. I am going to beg Patrice to go to the UDC Nationals with me so that she can show him...if she can't, I think I am going to go anyway and I will just do it myself. He just shows so much better for her. Plus, I like being able to watch

So...for now the only things in the works are the UDC Nationals, and continuing with Schutzhund training. Maybe some lure coursing for fun I think he would love it. (if he didnt kill himself chasing that thing....lol)

They pull HARD. I used to wear cleats with Rommel... You kind of learn to balance the weight though. Alot of people also work on the pole, so that they are backtied. You still hold onto the leash (or chain) to make sure that they dont get tangled, but the pole supports their weight.

You should try it...It is fun
