Flyball?

Has anyone tried Flyball with their Dobe???

For those that don't what this is, you & your dog are part of a team. The dogs have to clear 3 hurddles, then there is a "box" with a ball loaded in it. The dogs have to step on a button to release the ball. They have to turn & carry the ball back over the 3 hurddles. When they pass the starting line, the next dog goes. I believe each team has 4 members, not positive. Each team usually has one small member because the huddles are set at a height for the dog closest to the ground, which means a dog the size of a dobe usually clears the hurddles just by using their normal run. Australian Shepherds are used alot in this sport.

Just curious. Dobes seem like they would be great at this due to their athletic nature. Trying to get into this, but have to pass all the obedience classes 1st. Going agilty for sure with both, but would really like doing flyball.

there are a few members here that do it. i know talentdobe does it with her dobes, as does another member here that isn't (or hasnt been) posting much. rah is trained for it and adores it, but i havent made the effort to get him onto a team recently because i dont have the time to commit to them - our weekends are filled with showing already, and i cant spare the time right now to devote to something else.

We have done quite a bit of flyball- they LOVE it!! My old girl Gretel had her FDCH, Brigit is an FMX and Carly has a FDCH. Both are retired now, and I never started Hector because by then I had been bitten by the schutzhund bug, and once you getting addicted to that sport there's no time for anything else!! :biggrin55:
