Her name is Trish and she has a Schnauzer/Poodle mix (his name is Flynn). They earned their elite champion title while they were out there!

Adele earned her NW3 title yesterday with P's in 4 of her 6 searches! She totally blew me away by working in snow when she hates being cold. We had 1 interior search, 1 exterior search, 2 vehicle searches, and 2 container searches. There were no blank areas. This was my second trial under the new NW3 rules, I'm really enjoying the rule changes so far.

Unfortunately this will probably be the last trial in our area for a while due to corona virus, as most of our trials are in schools and schools have all closed in WA state.

Way to go!

I hear you on trials...the first NW3 that was scheduled in a couple of weeks here in MN was just cancelled. I don't think it's the wrong call, just sad.

Congratulations!!!!

I'm so sad about NACSW cancelling trials until May. Newtie and I were all set for the one coming up in MN. I totally get it, but it's disappointing nonetheless.

I totally hear you...I think they are 100% making the right call, but of course it's disappointing. I think a lot of people think this is going to be over sooner than it actually will. Or, if it IS over sooner, it will be because people actually follow the guidelines! And then we'll all be really happy.

At the end of the day, the competition part of Nosework is just for us, anyway. The dogs don't care. We don't need those ribbons. We have our dogs, and they have us. We can all do Nosework in our backyards while this stuff goes on in the world.

Last brag for the circuit season. Elite trail at Stokesdale NC Friday 13th, I wanted to let Dax off leash as much as possible to help gain the confidence that I needed. When we trailed at the NW3 level I had no problem letting Dax search off leash however with the large search areas at the Elite level I lost some of that confidence. At the Stokesdale trail I gain the confidence back. One of the search areas was an arena and their had been animals in there prior who had pissed. Dax went in and was easily distracted I hooked her up and she was able to refocus. One the judges noted on our score sheet great job hooking her back up. Well it is easy for me to do that with Dax because she is tall and I am short so we have an advantage.

We earned a third place ribbon out of 28 dogs with two pronounced out of four searches. Need to work on inaccessible hides, handler error in not called two of those type of scent puzzles. One complicated scent puzzle was in an open to the elements, wind blowing, inaccessible under table and within 2 feet around the corner in the brick wall the 2nd hide. Called Alert on the brick hide and Dax was working that table however handler did not call.

Hopefully we will continue this Nose Work journey in the fall

We ended the season doing exactly what I wanted to do, increase our finds and gain the confidence in working large areas off leash

Challenges in nosework training.....

My son decided to come outside while Lily was working, and I had to keep an eye on him, which of course distracts me from the dog...

For Leo's search, the neighbors across the street came home.

In case anyone is wondering, there was clove on the water meter cover, cypress alongside the curb, anise next to the bushes, and myrrh alongside the house.

Way to go team Rosemary.
Question...not ready to return to indoor nosework classes yet.
So when you do outdoor searches how long do you let it “bake” before you do your searches.

Love the videos and enthusiasm shown by both you and your pack doing the nosework!

Are you using a phone or a Go-Pro camera to document training?

What happened to your sprained ankle- healed? Back in May you had really done a number on it...

I ask this only because in videos, your legs and ankles look fit as a fiddle!

A lot of times I do my searches immediately. Sometimes I leave them out for a while. I think it's good for your dog to learn with variety.

For these, Leo ran her search about an hour after I set the hides, and Lily ran about 45 minutes after I set the hides. As MeadowCat mentioned, though, it's good to vary your times. I keep my made up scent vessels in the fridge, so I like to give them a chance to warm up a bit.

I really need to make up some AKC/UKC strength swabs, so that they can get used to them, since that's what we will be competing in if we ever enter a trial.

I'm wearing a GoPro on a chest harness. They are very useful for training nosework and tracking. I also like to have a stationary camera if possible (not an option for this set-up), since the two different points of view give you vastly different feedback.

My foot and ankle are doing much better. Most of the bruising and swelling are gone, and I've been able to wear shoes without wanting to cry since about Tuesday. Still have to be careful about how and where I step, and it sometimes hurts just for the heck of it, but is definitely on the mend.
