Sigh... no more Cyber K9 titles for us. The person was caught blatantly plagiarizing from another organization. As in copying and pasting directly from their website into a document, and not taking out the link to another part of the website.

Wow. That's disappointing of the organization.

Very. Especially since some of the things they offer titles in look like fun.

The April AKC Board Meeting Minutes have been posted. The changes to their Scent Work program start on page 29. https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn-origin-...April-2019.pdf Probably the biggest change is that the Buried element will no longer require hides to be in the actual ground at the higher levels. Instead, all hides will be in containers, covered with either sand or water. We tried some water hides yesterday, just for the heck of it. They figured it out pretty quickly.

Fun trial today for Sypha - she earned her L1V (level one vehicles element title) in NACSW. We got to search a zamboni (!!!!) and a boat! So much fun.

Congratulations, MC!

Newton and I had our first attempt at an NW3 in Lakeville this past Saturday. It was an experience to say the least! I have to say that I was surprised at how emotional it was for me. My last NW3 was with Brandy and she was on my mind a lot. I'm hoping the next one will be a little easier as far as that goes.
For the searches we had a 50/50 day! Someone false alerted on containers which was the very first element of the day. So no pressure for the rest of the day! lol The first two rooms for interiors went very well. I may have hung around a little longer than I should have, but we got what needed. The third search however was a different story. It was the handler that messed up leaving poor Newtie to search a blank room for over a minute. Ugh! Totally biased on my part. I kept thinking, they wouldn't do a blank room as the last search....wrong! So the mistakes Newtie and I made cancelled each other out. Thankfully our exteriors and vehicles went very well and were the last two searches of the day.
All in all it was a great learning experience and we still had a lot of fun. It's so nice to be out there with my boy enjoying the day!
If anyone is interested I have the videos (the good, the bad and the ugly!) posted in youtube. They're under the account my2dobes.

I can imagine that emotions would have been a little rough for you...I'm glad you and Newtie had a good day together. I heard there was quite a bit of "stuff" going on at the trial site, too, with just a lot of activity that was non-trial related, so good for you and Newtie for having such a good day together and a good learning experience. The ice arena is such an interesting and different location for a trial!

Proud of you guys and I know you are well on your way to your NW3!

I finally found both my GoPro-ish camera and the harness for it, so I wore it when we went over to the university to do some exteriors homework this past Sunday. It's amazing how different the searches look from the stationary camera and the body mounted camera. In this search area, the hide is on the left front corner of the bench along the wall, and there were some occasional light, variable breezes during our training session.

Lily, stationary camera view.

Lily, body mounted camera view.

Leo, stationary camera view.

Leo, body mounted camera view.

I just want to add that we are nowhere near as far along as MeadowCat, Meldrew, or the rest of them, mainly because I am a very lazy trainer, and don't work with them nearly as much as I could.

Sypha earned her L1E yesterday - she did some really nice work and I was very happy with her.

The afternoon weather got significantly warmer and Richter struggled tremendously with the heat, and he had some focus issues, too at his L2E trial...we didn't have a great trial. It was really tough to keep him cool while we waited at the staging areas and he had a hard time being cool enough to search well on a couple of the searches, and his first search he just couldn't focus - the critter smells were too distracting and the area was REALLY large, so we just couldn't get it together enough to find three hides in the 2 minutes allotted. Oh well...next time!

Congrats to you and Sypha!

I heard that there were only nine people that got 100% in the L2E. That's pretty tough for an element trial!

I think there were something like 12 titles...not sure if some people had legs already or not? I know quite a few people that got titles are people that are trialing at elite level, so...I don't feel TOO awful about our day

I think there were something like 12 titles...not sure if some people had legs already or not? I know quite a few people that got titles are people that are trialing at elite level, so...I don't feel TOO awful about our day
Yes, 3 of the people that titled had legs and 9 of them got it 100%. It sounded like some fun search areas! I wouldn't feel awful at all! Everyone has those days, and you still got to go home with the best dog. ;-)

We had a fun practice session the other day. This was our first search with more than one hide in... well, a long time.

This was our second time in the last three weeks that we've gotten to search at the radio station where my husband works, and I'm looking forward to doing more searches there.

I volunteered at an elite trial over the weekend. It was at a public safety training center that had some really cool search areas. One of them was a jet! Unfortunately, I didn't have a great view because of the tight area, but it was still really neat to see! All the dogs did a great job, including navigating the very steep and open stairs to get in. This is definitely on mine and Newtie's bucket list now!

ETA: There were five hides in total for this search. The search area included the coach/first class seating all the way up to the cockpit. Most teams seemed to get four, which isn't too shabby at elite!

I saw the video walk through for that on FB. It was really cool, and a pretty large area.

Sounds like a fun time 79 - I can see it now - Meadowcat will go out and buy herself a big jet to train in

It got pretty toasty in there by the end of 28 teams...we were all hoping that someone would bring up an in flight cocktail, but no luck!

Thanks for sharing your videos! It would be awesome if you wanted to start a separate thread with your thoughts on each search n the videos, such as the conditions, judges debrief comments, etc, along with hide locations. Then we could watch the videos and get a lot out of it. I’m going to try and do that occasionally.
