Not only did Richter earn his NW1 today, despite the heat, but he earned a 2nd place in Interiors, and earned First Place Overall/High in Trial! I'm in shock and so proud of this boy! Three of our searches also got a pronounced from our judges.

I'm beyond proud.

Oh, Nosework fans...a friend of mine opened a little business selling some Nosework stuff...tins, t-shirts, etc. She has some cute things, so I thought I'd share, in case anyone is interested. She also sells the target odors. thek9nose

Hey, cool! There will be a UKC trial not 15 miles from where I live in October. They will be offering PTs on all five odors and Interiors.

Now comes the decisions... enter Leo in all five PTs and call it a day, or enter just PTN and PTA, and enter the trials if she passes her PTN....

Thank you! We had some AWESOME judges who wrote some really nice things about Richter on my score sheets. And my instructor, who knows those judges (since he's very active in the national Nosework community), said they are judges that don't give out tons of "pronounced", so I'm particularly proud of that. I love how our teamwork has really grown in this sport. I'm looking forward to see Richter continue to develop his ability and me improve my handling He's really a great dog...he does such a great job at whatever I ask of him.

I don't know UKC at all...I'm assuming PTs are like ORTs? For us, 5 in one day would be a lot, but I don't know Leo at all

Yes, a PT (Pre-Trial) is like an ORT. UKC uses 5 scents: birch (Novice), anise (Advanced), clove (Superior), myrrh (Master), and vetiver (Elite).

That's great MC. Please let us know how it goes.

I feel fortunate that I live close to For Your K9. Nancy Reyes has brought many NW workshops and seminars (and, of course, trials) to the Chicago area. Always worth the time and money.

Well, I'm taking the plunge. Leo's entry will be going in the mail next week for the South Texas Nosework Dogs' October Interiors trial. I'm just entering the Novice and Advanced Pre-Trials, but will have the option of entering the trials the day of, if she passes her PTN.

Is it time to start panicking yet?

Trust my dog, yes. Trust my training.... maybe. Luckily there will be time to train some more before then. And since the kids go back to school on the 24th, I'll actually have the time to do it.

We have another Element Specialty Trial coming up on Halloween weekend...I'm thinking about entering Richter in Interiors. It's on actual Halloween Day so I don't want to be gone all day (Halloween is a VERY BIG DEAL in our house), so I'm not going to enter the afternoon trial, which is Containers, but I think we may throw our entry in for Interiors and see if we get in.

We've been taking Nosework classes through Denise Fenzi Dog Sports academy and it's been a lot of fun. We've had some challenges along the way but we're making slow and steady progress.

Soter is rock solid on his containers and interiors YEA! He's very environmentally sensitive though so exteriors and vehicles are proving to be a bit of a challenge. The weather has been horrible so we haven't been able to practice much on the exteriors but we're working on vehicles in a private underground parkade. We're hoping that if he gets a good, solid, distraction free foundation it will make the transition to outdoors a bit easier.

We drove with all the dogs to Nanaimo in July to attend a Nosework workshop with Lucy Newton and it was a fabulous experience. Our wonderful breeder pup-sat all the girls for us while my husband, Soter and I attended the workshop. We learned so much and came back with all sorts of new ideas for training!

If we keep at it, our instructor thinks we should be ready for a trial in the spring!

I just got an email that Brandy and I got into the L1V trial in Wilmot, WI on the 19th! We were #9 on the wait list, so I really wasn't expecting it. I think of vehicles as our most challenging element so it will be a great experience.

There is a new nosework organization, called K9 Scent Detection, starting up. Hope they get going, and that someone in this area will decide to hold trials. Home

I just read that the DPCA will start accepting an NW1 from NACSW for the ROM, which is pretty exciting!
