Michael Vick Has a Mal

Michael Vick's New Dog -- The Most Dangerous Breed for A Dog Killer | TMZ.com

Oh boy. I had thought the media fallout from him having a bully breed would be bad, but I hadn't expected him to show interest in working breeds. Oy vey.

Also something I'm wondering, he's a football player with a multi-million dollar paycheck and he gives his dog milkbones and takes it to petsmart training classes? Really???

As someone who teaches at Petsmart, this both horrified me and one little thing cracked me up.

The horrifying thing is that he had this high-drive (I assume) pup in October of last year, and is just now going to class. If she has been sitting at home all of this time, it is going to take other than a Petsmart trainer to salvage the situation... if it is even salvageable.

The part that cracked me up is the blurring of the face of the other DOG in class. REALLY? There is a need to protect the identity of some random little muttley dog that probably looks just like a zillion other random little mutts? Make me laugh every time I see it... how silly!

Will someone please shoot this man.

How the hell he can be allowed to have a dog ever again escapes me, obviously money talks, because common sense sure as hell as taken a walk.

Lord watch over and protect any dog Michael Vicks ever has go through his hands. Because the authorities in the US sure as hell won't.

Bold mine. Definitely some of my first thoughts. I also thought, "Oh God, does he want a protection dog now?" Some of the articles I've read have noted, also, that a bodyguard attended the classes at Petsmart with him.

Yeah, all of this. But, y'know, you can't train dogs until they're at least 6 months old (I've seen this in more than one place)

Really, I wonder how drivey and representative of the breed she can be....because WHO WOULD GIVE THIS MAN A DOG?! A puppy mill or a pet store is my notion. Because what reputable breeder or rescue would? Which doesn't speak well for the dog's temperament or socialization.

Yup, this article I was linked to last night mentioned a bodyguard. Please ignore the comments below if you don't want to start popping people's heads off their shoulders.

I'd like to know who sold him or gave him the dog, to be honest. Like I said at first I had thought that he'd just gotten another bully breed, which would still infuriate me but I do know that some (disagreeable- put lightly) bully folks still support dog fighting and a few spoke up saying they would give him one of their dogs. But a Mal is a completely different beast and I just can't think of ANY Mal person who would see a justification to that except someone woo'd by fame.

I hope, for his pupper's sake, that he realizes he's in way over his head if he's let her sit at home for these months previously and rehomes her to someone far better to care for an animal (to start with, no one with a track record of killing dogs).

It's sad to see how money hungry people can be. I'm really not surprised that someone would do it, the lack of humanity these days is really quite numbing (unfortunately). I am surprised, however, to see that he would want a dog. Are dogs wonderful, fantastic and great? Yes. But considering his history he must be a masochist to want to receive the inevitable negative attention.

Some people's chidren...

Oh, he's whined for a few years that it isn't fair that his kids want a dog and can't have one.

Y'know, sidestepping the issue that it was his decisions, his abuse and his fault that he and thus his children couldn't have a dog. Why are we being so mean to his kids? Srsly. Lol, the law. Or something. UGH.

I get sick of all this vick stuff. I did quite a few things I'm not proud of when I was younger, I was in significant trouble, and did things beyond what most people could think of. does that mean those labels should stick with me for life? I grew up, got the help I needed, corrected my mistakes, and moved on. That's what life is about.

Some things should stick, I think. I'm all for second chances, but when you do something such as shoot, drown, hang, beat, or electrocute (or you know, all of them) dogs, yeah I think that should bar you from ever being allowed to be near animals again. Just like child abusers should never be allowed to be near children again, and murderers not allowed in decent society again. He can move on, I don't care if the Eagles hired him or if he keeps playing, but there's absolutely no reason he should ever be allowed to have a dog.

Ah but the difference is you are not proud of what you did. And may I hazard a guess you also feel some remorse?

Michael Vicks shows no remorse for killing dogs, just getting caught.

I think training at petsmart is just a publicity thing. He has the money to train at his home or through a more private place yet there's no cameras there to prove what a good dog owner he is being.

Not sure who would ever sell him a dog. Especially a breed like a mal.

As a Mal owner myself this breaks my heart. They are SO high drive and can be complete knuckleheads. Not caring about their own safety (or any one in their way) when they are "on", it's why they make such awesome police and military K9s. On the other side of the coin they are sensitive, my Mal (and the others I've meet) feel every single one of my (their handlers) emotions and think it's directed at them.

What a horrible choice for this asshat. He should never be allowed to "own" another dog, regardless of the breed, but especially a high drive breed.

Do I think the children should suffer for the fathers sins, no. But the dogs welfare is more important than kids who will grow up and move on without their "family" dog.

Didn't mean to thank you... not that I totally disagree. I made some bad choices when I was younger and I know how much a person can grow from mistakes.

Only if one of your labels was "sociopath," which, in my expert internet psychologist's humble opinion, betcha was NOT.

Sociopaths have a grave prognosis, as far as any improvement or meaningful recovery.

Vick is a sociopath.

Agreed. Someone who shows a blatant disregard for the life of another specifically something defenseless (ie. animals, elderly, children) has something seriously wrong with them mentally.

I forgot to say, before, I do hope that Mali comes back up the lead and goes all CuisineArt on Vick's bad ass.

I understand your reasoning. But what about the dog in that situation? Considering what he has done, I'd bet my ass that dog would be in a serious situation if he did that. No doubt in my mind he'd be put to sleep.

The mal, or the fact that he has a dog? The fact that he has a dog has been known for a while, but he was being very tight-lipped about any more specifics. No official knowledge of breed, gender, or age had been posted until very recently.

Michael Vick Has a Mal

I just heard the story about him taking the dog to petsmart on the today show this morning. It was news to me as well. I knew he had a dog but didn't know the breed.
