Hi Everybody....long time

no talk...I haven't been here since last Feb. or March when my horse foundered. So much has happened since then. Waylon's (my TWH) feet healed up....tho we're still trimming off foundered hoof. Farrier says it takes about a year for the whole hoof to replace itself, BUT his feet look great...he's been getting trimmed every 6 weeks since the founder took place.

I was dianosed with throat cancer in March, so spent the spring, summer and fall recooping from treatment. I came back to work last week, and find it's pretty demanding...I may just have to retire . Cancer gave me a new perspective on time, and what I want to do with it....and working graveyard at the electric company ain't it.

I lost MoJo in July....his hips were giving him an awful time and he was having an hard time staying upright. I was so afraid he'd fall and really hurt himself....he had so many medical problems the last 4 years of his life, I made THE DECISION...gawd, I miss him.

In September I got a Standard Poodle pup....4 1/2 months old....she is a real sweetie....very comical and smart. I'm watching her develop into what will be a real nice pet....right now we're still in the clown-ie puppy stages...these French don't take their lessons as seriously as the Germans...LOL. I can't believe that after 42 years of GSD's, I got a Poodle....but no hair!! I've gotten so skinny, I didn't think I could handle a big big dog like I used to....she's very athletic, and full of spunk....I just love her. I sure miss my Moj, tho....he would have loved her, too....Oh...I named her Lola...

I couldn't click open the pictures from my work computer. But Lola sounds lovely! You've really been through it. I'm glad you are doing better. I'm so sorry about Mojo.
God's blessing be with you. I know about the nights. I work midnights for the government.
Welcome back!

Hey there! I'm sorry about Mojo. Sleep softly big guy. It is a hard decision and I had to make it for my Maggie for the same reason. In fact she did fall and cause a huge hematoma in her eye. I still miss her too and it was at least 25 years ago. (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))

You have had quite a bit on your plate. Many hugs and good vibes your way. You will get stronger but it can take a while. My sis in law battled with Cancer and I would say it took her a good two years to feel like her old self.

Congrats on the new puppy. LOVE the standards. She is adorable. I think Lola, a standard, is the perfect choice for you at this time. I am sure she offers you great joy and a way to escape when things get stressful.

I got a rough collie puppy, I'm going back to hair. LOL. A standard was right up there on my list but the collie fell into place. Sebastian is 5 /12 month old and has brought me much joy.

It is really good to see and I hope you stick around and post on non doberman place now. I'd love to see pics as Lola grows up and here stories.

Hi Phrannie! I wonder about you every now and then when I see your name in old posts. Glad to see you back! It will be weird to think of you without a GSD(rip mojo...very sad )but it sounds like Lola will be great for you Throat cancer...wow! I can't imagine. I think John Mayer got that and it did a number on his singing career. He had to totally change his life too. You sound like a strong person to deal with what's come your way. I'm glad you found your way back to DT

Welcome Back!!
So sorry to hear about all your troubles. Glad to hear Waylon's feet are on the mend and that you kicked cancer's @ss! Also, so very sorry to hear about Mojo. That decision is always so hard.

Welcome Lola! I love standards. One of my Siri pup's good friends is a black standard named Winston. Such personality those french dogs have!

As John Mayer and I have been in a serious relationship for quite some time, I have to correct this. He's not got throat cancer. Just a weird nodule that has really wrecked his singing plans.

Don't you dare mention that hussy Katy Perry either.....

So sorry about your Mojo. It's never easy to loose someone you love. And, glad your pony is getting better. I have 11 horses and a mini. Founder is always on my mind since we are on irrigated pastures. The mini gets locked up in his own "diet" pasture on a regular basis. Your new poodle is gorgeous! Ex dog groomer of 22 years here, and I have seen lots. She is a keeper.

Welcome back!

Sorry to hear about Mojo. The hardest thing we ever do for our pets is make that decision. *hugs*

Looks like Lola has made herself quite at home. Do you find yourself singing What lola wants...lola gets...?

Thank you all for the warm welcome back ....Dobiewankanobi, you cracked me up...rest assured your secret will be safe with me...LOL.

Doggiegirl...founder is now on my mind, too. I'd never experienced it before...and Waylon did it on hay at the end of January in Montana...it was so cold, and I just kept building him the styrofoam shoes, and getting him trimmed until the pain subsided....it took a month for him to start feeling better. I worry about him because of his age (he's 30), tho he looks like a teenager. We got all grass hay this winter, no alfalfa at all in it. Tho he ate pasture all summer with no problems, not even in the spring (I was nervous tho).

Lori I've been drooling over Sebastian....OMG he is gorgeous and there's so much sweetness in that face...I LOVE Collies...

LeLiel....the song I have heard 20,562 times since getting Lola is ....L O L A...Loooooola...hubby sings it constantly. My husband thought I was crazy to get a pup while I was still in chemo.....but I think she boosted my spirits, and she certainly got me outside getting some much needed exercise.

Moj was such an enity unto himself....faithful and true, but if I went and sat next to him on the floor, he'd get up and move 2 feet away...he liked his space....Lola loves crawling into bed with us, and hanging on the couch....loves every person with a special penchant for children, loves to play with other dogs, no strange fears....a great temperment.

We're still having trouble with housetraining, tho (just pee, she seems to understand poop)....this is a new one for me....but I treat her like a puppy, and run her outside often. She's gone as long as a month without an accident...but I can tell that was luck, not a learned behavior...I treat her like a little puppy, and get her outside often...just every once in a while she'll squat right in front me and pee like it's a great relief, rather than an oops. I'm hoping that the constant going outside and getting big praise for peeing there will finally sink in over time....and it will be a habit. I've never had an older puppy before, so every one of my dogs have had housetraining down pat by this age.

Do you guys think that praise and constantly getting her outside will work? She was a kennel dog....there was a doggie door to outside, so the kennels were clean...but I can't have a doggie door for her, as I don't have a fenced yard....any ideas will be appreciated.

Bass is trained to use the dog door and I thought he was housebroken but last week hubby closed the dog door and forgot to re open it. Bass pooped in the house! So I'm thinking I need to teach him to let me know when he has to go. I'm looking for a bell or bells this weekend to put on the slider door and I'll work with treats to teach him to ring it to go out. Maybe you could do the same for your girl. Maybe, because they learned to use the dog door and got out when they wanted they missed the "I need to let mom know" part and we have to teach that to them. I was shocked frankly. Here I was all full of myself thinking man he trained so easily, it was like nothing but now I think hmmmm... he knows to go out if the door is open but he hasn't learned to hold it and let us know I guess. Luckily he hasn't peed in the house but he can hold it for a long time, when he has to poo he has to poo so he needs to tell me! lol.
