Always been a cat lady

They are pretty happy together. Rarely grumpy. I truly think the key to a happy multi-cat household is lots and lots of vertical spaces and places that cats want to be...the more places they CAN be apart if they want, the happier they are. And, of course, enough litterboxes, etc. If you make a super strong effort to provide an environment where everyone feels they have enough territory, you can usually make it work. Cats are incredibly territorial. You have to really understand the cat psyche.

Hers work together OK, though I gather sometimes it can take a bit of shuffling based on who gets along with who. But she's an experienced cat person--I was exaggerating a bit.

All of hers have basically been strays adopted (and fixed) at various stages of their lives with various behavior difficulties and rehomed if possible (the kittens generally just take a little time to bring them around, but the older ones aren't as flexible.)

I know she had one who was "tame" enough to manage to sit on the arm of the couch next to you and even let you touch her and pet her, on HER terms, of course. But you didn't want to catch her eye when she was THAT close, or she would attack. I don't mean the classic don't stare at the cat, of course, many don't like that. This one would grace you with her presence, but it was always, "don't look at her" She was on the edge of being a feral cat but had some special needs which meant she couldn't quite be left as one.

And another had some hormone thing going on that they couldn't quite get a handle on which affected his behavior.

And then often there is one who is getting senile...

Seems like there is always someone who needs a bit of special attention.

Oh, it's for sure harder when they are added as adults and have lived in other types of situations, especially if they were free roaming. It sounds like she's done a great job with them.

Just too cute, MeadowCat--good that you've got your own home entertainment with those two--must make staying home a little easier to bear.

It was, wasn't it, Mel?

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it--one of my past Dobes was a very skilled stalker and that stalk was very much like his.

I don't think so--practically every Dobe I've ever owned or raised has stalked but as I recall they kept every part of their body rigid except their very slow moving feet. Even the 8 month old loaner Joey, who has just started stalking (me, one of the Crows if they land in the yard and the occasional small (unidentified chicadee type birds) who show up looking for seeds) stalks this way. Don't remember anyone who wagged while doing it.

I caught Bebe and Matilda like this when I pulled back the curtains yesterday...I just about died from the cute. I promise it is not staged (I don't think you could force this with cats!):

I love some of these "we're besties--can't you tell" shots you get of the kittens alone or with each other or the other cats. Cracks me up.

My tuxedo boys will curl up together and often Clark will wash Leon--head to toe but then the lil' devil that is part of Clark's character will surface and after cleaning Leon thoroughly Clark with grab him by the throat --that makes Leon scream and they both leap off the bed and chase each other down the hall...

Cat's dirt cheap entertainment.

"Hold still Matilda, I'm going to wash you good!"

(As Gus pins her by her ear so he can really do some high class excellent grooming.)

Shades of Clark grooming Leon...great video MeadowCat!

A few new pictures.

Gus pretty much always looks as sweet as pie.

Matilda is actually just as sweet. But she also has an incredible resting bitch face...she can't help it! The tabby "M" combined with her coloring just makes her look SO crabby...poor TillieBeans.
